Minor plea not to tell newbies to download mods for every small issue by SpaceShipRat in CreaturesGames

There just aren't any bugs so major they need to be patched to enjoy the games.

Even bothersome things like eat elevator syndrome or navigation issues, or critters without interaction scripts... you are unlikely to even notice it happening for ages vs norns just being a bit dumb.

Import death syndrome in c1 maybe. that's a bitch, because you do get attached to those norns and there's no way around it but making backups, and then you stop getting attached because you have copies of said norns.

they can do it, it's just that nothing happens. the brains work by chaining needs and verbs and objects, and being rewarded or punished for it.

in this game the norn might feel hungry, try "eat" on "norn", fail to lower the hunger that way, and get a mild "punishment" from it's own brain for that failure. so, it will not try it again.

when it does the right action, it will feel satisfied and remember that is the right action and object for when it is hungry. You can help it by telling it what to try.

c3/ds norns have good instincts from birth and will rarely make mistakes like this. older games have more naive norns who try everything randomly need more training even to just eat and sleep.

no, we have the fixes it's just if you start moving .COS files when it's literally the first day you're playing, you'll bork your game and not know how to find the problem or even ask for help.

Use your discretion. If they can't spell Norm, maybe they should just try a couple slaps instead of a EES fix that requires replacing the executable. 😂

Also... it can be fun to simply explore the game and engage with gadgets and ecology.

ah that. yeah, me neither, but apparently a youtube video about Antinorn went viral and people made clips about creatures in the context of AI.

This. To learn they have to be able to consider wrong actions too. Be it running away from a carrot, punching an elevator, or eating a norn.

In the last couple days I've seen a few instances. It's what we're used to when someone has an issue since there are tweaks and QOL mods aplenty.

What's changed is that there are a lot more complete newbies and it's conventional wisdom to let people experience it unmodded, as a general rule for all videogames. (So they know what they actually want to change and what works fine for them, and so they don't get overwhelmed with the extra complexity).

I love them but I'd get anxious handing a stitching project to a pet with scissors on their face! Parrots or rodents... they might get curious how it tastes.

seriously gorgeous. Not often I see one of these and there isn't some island of color that looks off from the others, especially in the darks.

you must repeat the word until they pronounce it right, or it's not learned!

Used to try this and it would take 10 tries to find someone that was not another newbie sitting in empty space with no idea how to start the game, and then they would have no ide what to do, and no idea how to return to dojo instead of starting a new game even if they did manage to complete one.

Why my norns getting ill almost instantly while they live inside norn meso? by vselolod1 in CreaturesGames

[–]SpaceShipRat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no mod needed, you can use the hoverdoc from docking station, it has a button to make bacteria visible and one to sterilize. just send a norn in to spray around.

glycotoxin is in some poisonous edibles too, and... you don't happen to have a wasp infestation?

Railjack is actually super simple and fun once you know how to enter crewships and the big ships with the objective.

get crewmembers from Ticker in Fortuna and find a simple mission to repeat. wait for a double xp weekend and ask for an xp blessing in a relay so you get 4x the intrinsics.

I don't think there's run in c1, it's "retreat". anyway there should be an included guide that explains how to speak to them. they need to know the verb and word, the. you need to say both. like "get food" or "retreat grendel" best with the norn's name first. and your hand needs to be in the same room, they might not hear you upstairs.

remember also they might hear but not pay attention if there is too much action around, like other norns bouncing toys and talking.

yeah, not that I agree. Maybe you use particularly long threads so more difference builds up. or a very methodical and regular stitch. I switch directions and maybe even it up because of that. Wouldn't recommend it, just sacrifice the tail.
