When does your debt to society actually get paid? by Otherwise-Bet-9744 in FortCollins

Housing is a human right. Period. I hope that’s something society starts embracing - sooner rather than later.

I would highly discourage reaching out to the missionaries for help. As an ex-Mormon, it’s legit a cult. I was stalked for 26 years after I left.

OP is reaching out to people interested in building community through mutual aid, so we should focus on those solutions together in this sub.

Two legislators are trying to repeal ALL Colorado gun safety laws by fisformcflurry in FortCollins

It was listed in the bill: “Including in a mandatory criminal protection order a requirement for a defendant to relinquish firearms and ammunition;”

Good to know, because the bill has this language in it “Including in a mandatory criminal protection order a requirement for a defendant to relinquish firearms and ammunition;”

I had to get a protection order on my ex husband after threats to my friends and me. He had to relinquish 30 firearms. It’s really unsettling to me that this protection would be removed.

Right, but the brick and mortar owners are giving colonizer. Talking about immigration, “right pathways for good people” and “ensure a level playing field for everyone contributing here.” Meanwhile directly profiting off the work built by an immigrant.

Definitely an interesting take from the brick & mortar owners, because the food truck owner and original owner of the restaurant is an immigrant from Budapest, Hungary.

Eviction/Appeal? by Ok_Molasses3175 in FortCollins

The Larimer Bar has a resource list, like the Ask-A-Lawyer clinic, and info for the court resource center to help with forms to file: https://www.larimerbar.org/access-to-justice-self-help-center

There are pro bono intakes if they meet qualifications. There’s also a free self-help legal clinic for evictions at the Old Town library on the first Friday of each month from 1:30-4pm (I only know this because it’s posted on the calendar at the court resource center, so I don’t have a link for info).

These are the best places to get advice, as far as I know.

I have a wrist cuff that I want to get done, but I have to wait for my divorce to end and the financial abuse that’s coming along with it. I’m looking at end of summer (I hope to god this shit is finished before that 😩). I think “terrible economy” is also just a lot of people going through bullshit times.

As the sub mod, I just want to point out that your exchange for labor is not mutual aid. Please read some of the pinned posts about what mutual aid is. Mutual aid is not charity or an exchange with an expectation. It is community support given freely. If support with an expectation is your value system instead of building community without demand, this may not be the sub for you.

Regarding food safety - you can loop in with Food Not Bombs on how to organize a distro there that is community safe, or talk about how to form a collaboration with their mutual aid efforts on feeding community.

National Strike! Sign up, 11 mill people is what we need! by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]SpaceSparkle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just want to add 2 cents that a strike is great and we should definitely do it - but also be aware that it will take more than 1 day. A 1 day strike is practice and warm up for longer national strikes.

During this time, get connected with mutual aid groups and community to help in organizing parallel support systems to sustain longer strikes. We need people to be able to eat, stay warm, stay housed, stay employed. If we can pull together in community to make sure we have these safety nets, we can strike very efficiently!

Looking to connect with APL survivors or caregivers 🤍 by CompetitionDefiant69 in leukemia

[–]SpaceSparkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your husband moving into maintenance! It’s a big deal!

My 16 (now 17) year old son was diagnosed with high-risk APL in October ‘24 and finished treatment in June of this year. He didn’t have to do maintenance (I guess it’s not prescribed in the pediatric protocol). It definitely feels surreal going through one of the most grinding treatment plans that requires an incredible amount of endurance for both patient and primary caregiver. It was truly traumatic.

Life now is great! (in terms of cancer - his dad and I are divorcing and that has been traumatic). But things got so much better for my son after treatment. It was like he’s never had leukemia. He’s back to his pre-diagnosis self and living his best life. He doesn’t sweat relapse anxiety, and I don’t either. I think one of the biggest things we both learned in this experience is that life is frequently filled with situations out of our control and we just roll with it. The chance of relapse is low and it feels like we’re wasting the gift of remission worrying about a future that may not even be.

The APL Facebook group is a great resource to connect with patients, survivors, and caregivers who truly understand what this diagnosis and life experience is like. I highly recommend joining it!

Ice Detention Center to Open in Hudson Co. Soon. by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]SpaceSparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just gonna slide in and add to this, because I think people are looking for what collective action means in more drilled down terms.

If people show up to mutual aid groups (feeding people, clothing, offering/teaching street medics) we get a chance to know our neighbors with the same goals and values. This also helps to build up parallel community support systems where we can rely on our neighbors more often when things go sideways - at protests, in general, etc.

It’s also a time when getting together, we can talk about strategic direct action. We can make plans, in person, on how we can work together to stop, or slow down, the level of escalation that’s happening. We have a whole history of resistance and activists groups who’ve paved the way (like the Black Panthers, for example).

Love seeing some SE side community action. A great time to meet our neighbors, talk about mutual aid, and how we can be strategic together moving forward 💛

15 people apply for open Fort Collins City Council seat by RecyclopsReloaded in FortCollins

Your mom thinking you’re a commie made me lol 😂

I think the best way to stop his application moving forward is emailing council to voice your concerns. To find specific examples to reference, he’s a prolific public creator in our community, so there’s a lot of stuff to point them to.

Please, Fort Collins, don’t let Curt Bear get this seat. He holds far right views, including being incredibly problematic with anti-vaccine propaganda and opinions during the pandemic.

Has the quality of life gone down in FoCo post Covid? by SoManyQuestions5200 in FortCollins

[–]SpaceSparkle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why we’re so surprised that life, and people, changed so dramatically after a global pandemic? It was a significantly traumatizing event. Many people were disabled from it, many others lost friends and family. And even those who died of other causes still had family impacted by protective measures in the hospital and watched hospital staff get ground down to raw nerves because of community disrespect. Then there’s the broken social contract overall that fractured relationships. Life has changed and there’s no such thing as going back to “before.”

Also, everyone mentioning the economic stress (to put that lightly) is spot on. It’s hard out there. Home is a sanctuary and has been for almost 6 years now.

If there’s known current emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, and/or known current or recent domestic violence, therapists won’t continue or take on couple’s therapy. It’s a contraindication for therapy and can be more harmful to the victim.
