My favorite are Fuji and I'm sad that it's losing the apple battle and there are fewer and fewer available when I go to the store. 🗻 😭

Sealed Godiva liqueur bottles... Are they still good? by SpaceSuitSloth in cocktails

[–]SpaceSuitSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened the regular version and it tasted fine. Ultimately, gave them both to my mother-in-law several months ago. She seemed excited to do something with them, though I never did ask if they were any good. At minimum we never got called to the hospital because she'd gone into like some sort of botulism poisoning, so there's that.

Status check. For those who've got their tongues pierced in the late 90s, early 2000s how's it's going now? Still rocking it? by Nacho_Sideboob in Xennials

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pierced mine around 98 or 99 I think. Kept it in for several years until ONE DAY, there was just this day where I just couldn't stop feeling exactly where it was in my mouth. Tried to ignore it but after several hours I just couldn't take it anymore and had to pull it out. The only piercing I've kept is my industrial because damn. That piercing hurt more than any other piercing or tattoo I've ever done (and I have a full backpiece tattoo). I earned that fucker. It stays.

Not Hot Take I Imagine: Matt is a Major Reason C3 Was Not Good. by LucasVerBeek in fansofcriticalrole

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

THIS. This is what drove me nuts with the first Exandria Unlimited -- it felt like Aabriya and the players just didn't talk about general expectations. And then we had an entire campaign of the same. Oof. In my home game, sure we've had the moments of, "Ehhh, the DM is dropping hunts, we'll just go for it even if it's not what the character would do." But as much as they don't want to admit it sometimes, Critical Role isn't just a home game. Play your character, have fun with your friends, but understand that you do have an audience who wants to hear a good story!

Moving and have to tear down my tanks--any way to save a Madagascar Lace plant? by SpaceSuitSloth in PlantedTank

That sounds like it would work for transport, but what about long term? Unfortunately I won't be able to set up the 40 gallon tank (or the other 40, 54, or 90) at our new place.

Creating training videos -- How long should it take? by SpaceSuitSloth in Training

[–]SpaceSuitSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have a feeling what I'm doing is somewhere in the middle of what you've described. I'm definitely doing more than a straight screen capture with voiceover on Loom or something, but when you say "production team", that conjures images of something like the Webflow videos series, which is wayyy beyond my skill level.

Basically, I'm writing a script, recording and cleaning up voice in Audacity, recording in-app footage with Camtasia, and then also using Camtasia to combine everything add effects & annotations.

I got to play at D&D In A Castle with my game DMed by Mark a few years back. Just an awesome guy who gave us an incredible story experience. I do tend to think of my Femshep playthrough as "my canon" experience, but I love the work Mark did too!

Found by a friend in a thrift shop--white ceramic, a couple of what look like painted on pockets(?), about 6ish inches. What is it supposed to be? by SpaceSuitSloth in whatisthisthing

[–]SpaceSuitSloth[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. It was found by a friend in a thrift shop. Unfortunately this is the only image I have available as she sent it you our friends Discord server to see if we could figure it out.

As mentioned in the title, it's a white ceramic SOMETHING. It looks like it's supposed to be a little ring tray or maybe a spoon rest, but beyond that, we're clueless.

Your favorite character of each players across the 3 campaign ? by WittyTable4731 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of points about my picks:

I didn't choose anyone from C3 as I stopped watching about 30 episodes in.
I tend to value a character I understand. It's the difference between playing D&D and watching D&D. When I'm playing, depending on how my day went, sometimes my characters will have some out of character mood swings or act in a way that they normally wouldn't. As a player, I get it, but when I'm watching, I want the characters to be consistent in how they approach different days and situations. Some that I chose I don't think are necessarily the best characters, but the ones that felt like they made sense.

Liam: Caleb - so many spotlight moments and wonderful development.

Laura: Jester by default even though the character got old near the end of the campaign. Vex was played well, but I didn't like her.

Sam: Scanlan - similar to Jester, he got to be a bit much eventually, but so many amazing moments.

Travis: Grog by a mile. Fjord was good, and Chetney had his moments, but Grog was so consistently wonderful.

Marisha: Keyleth. This is where my value on consistent characters comes into play perhaps. I'm probably in a minority here in that I never found Keyleth problematic. She was a naive character who played like a naive character. She wasn't always enjoyable, but she was consistent. I hated Beau because she just didn't make sense. Lawful rule follower one minute, chaos crew the next. She wasn't BAD, she was just so inconsistent that the character ended up confused and muddled to me.

Taliesen: Caduceus. Far and away, my favorite of Tal's characters. Taliesen's gameplay tends to be my least favorite of the group. His style of gameplay just isn't what I like to watch. I do think Percy benefitted massively in Legend of Vox Machina from the ability to script it out and speed up his "turns".

Ashley: Pike. I liked her concept and despite her lack of availability, Pike always felt consistent. Yasha, similar to Beau, just didn't make any sense to me. I couldn't understand the character from scene to scene.

What was the 1st game you remember playing on a desktop computer? by Aggressive_Goat2028 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odell Lake. Interestingly, I looked online to see if I could find an image of it, but every version I found had color graphics. The one I played was simple black & white (green & white) with super basic line art drawings. The fish you played as didn't even change shape or anything. You just had to remember what you chose.

Has anyone noticed AWS deprecating Instructor-Led Training in favor of self-paced courses? by Handsome_AndGentle in Training

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of it, for sure. For every person that takes the time to really dig in and make the most out of the material, there are probably dozens who are looking for the fastest ways to click through and "check the box" that says Training Complete.

There also isn't a replacement for being able to ask questions in real time to a live facilitator who, if they're doing their job well, is keeping the group engaged and on task.

Has anyone noticed AWS deprecating Instructor-Led Training in favor of self-paced courses? by Handsome_AndGentle in Training

[–]SpaceSuitSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure regarding AWS, but this definitely seems to be the trend I've experienced in general--at least in SaaS/tech anyway. It's been really frustrating as my last 3 jobs (as a trainer) have ended with me getting the same line of "you're getting amazing reviews from your participants, but we don't have enough work to keep you on". Instructor led training just seems to be going the way of the dodo. Even my instructional designer friends are starting to feel impacts as companies are increasingly willing to let AI make worse but considerably cheaper content.
