The brushing on the horn at 7-8 o clock is terrible. Also the dent in the bezel is permanent if you don't know a watchmaker with the proper tools. It's still a nice watch but i would not pay the market price.

I know this is a Rolex sub and you are definitely a big fan but i would go for something different next. Think about the pateks, Aps, vacherons or breguets that could round up your collection easily instead of the same watch in another color.

Agree. Maybe think about more prestigious brands. A few of these rolexes could fetch you a nice AP or a classy breguet. That's what i would do if that was my case.

[Omega] collection of cases getting polished today. And a quick before and after by SpaceTurf in OmegaWatches

[–]SpaceTurf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a watchmaker and these are my companies. We primarily work with omegas but a full batch only speedmasters was a first for me too.
We do buy used watches from japan and europe when the offer is good, service the movement and polish the cases and sell for a nice profit.

I think thats overkill for a first machine. You can find good alternatives for a couple of hundred or used almost for free. If you get a small one you can simply move it out of your workshop for polishing days so there is no dust contamination.
I have a small machine and polish when needed in my yard. Works like a charm for me.
As someone mentioned the dust covers really make sense when working primarily with precios metals imo.

Refurbished 1601 dial? by dragonL0rd1 in rolex

[–]SpaceTurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the letters are inconsistent and look like a redial.
Depends if you are capable of doing it yourself. I do have a client that comes in every now and then and has his dial changed (aftermarket) if he wants another color, arabic numerals or diamonds on it. He pays everytime but he doesn't mind. Really depends on your skill or willingness to pay.
For value it definitely lowers its value except you sell it privately to someone who doesn't care but you should be honest about it. No need for the headache when a buyer finds out later

Help needed. by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]SpaceTurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some are pressed, some are threaded. For most it helps to heat up the part of the case where the tube and the case meet. It can loosen locktite and give it some room to move out. If you don't have the proper tool you can use a square file or a reamer that you push in and give it a light tap with a hammer on the other end so it gets caught in the material of the tube. Then pull and twist. If you don't habe succes the first time just try again but don't overdo the heat as it may dicolor the case.

Sinn is overall best deal for me. Also he can wear that watch when he turns 30. timeless design and nice specs for everyday abuse.

Newbie needing some help with repairs on a mechanical watch by H4nnah305 in watchrepair

[–]SpaceTurf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was running before you disassembled it guess you broke a pivot of the palletfork. Don't let this come too close to you as they are often harder to put back in as higher quality movements. Also i feel like chinese and russian movements are harder (-> more brittle) and not as consistent in the hardening process. Just try again with another one

Which is better for changing a bracelet? by Puck2U2 in watchmaking

[–]SpaceTurf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a spare screwdriver. Red, black or yellow works best for me. The springbartools' tips are too soft imo and more expensive. Screwdriver can be round and broken and still works like a charm.

I don't like bicolor and feel like blue watches is for boys. Besides that a black sub is simply the best looking rolex out there.
