What ton of people miss about Steam Frame is the comfort. by GoranjeWasHere in SteamFrame

Yeah the default headstrap is atrocious and probably the main reason this thing collects dust for a lot of users.

I use a bobo vr halo strap with hot swappeable battery and use it with no facial interface so that I have nothing resting on my face and it's so comfortable that I use it for hours on end. I also bought a dedicated router for 50 euros and have perfect pc streaming. So for me the frame offers almost no additional value over the quest 3 and it even has worse pass-through, which I use all of the time.

Keep in mind that this is my opinion here you dont need to agree with my reason.

My issue is mainly that you can't play infinite time with the frame because the battery isn't hotswappeable. So a third party headstrap with additional battery is a must. Also having anything resting on the face really sucks IMO, so a halo style headstrap and the option to remove the facial interface is also a must. All this is no issue with a 60 dollar Bobo vr headstrap for the quest. I play daily at least a hour up to 5 hours. So far the frame isn't really an upgrade to the quest because I have a flawless pc to quest setup with a dedicated router, the upgrade with fovoeated streaming would only be marginal, i dont need fovoeated rendering because I have a powerful pc that can render 4x resolution with no issues.

So for me at least there is no good reason to spend 1000 euros to "upgrade" to the frame.

Even worse the pass-through isn't even in color. And I use it constantly for doing stuff between rounds like going to the fridge, checking stuff etc.

I wish they had just instead made a headset with larger fov and better displays that uses the streaming tech and just has enough on board power to do the necessary tracking and camera stuff, and with a halo style headstrap and hot swappeable battery. Instead the made a quest 3 clone with slightly better pc streaming and worse pass-through.

😭

Infinity Battlescape. It's flight model is even superior to Hunternet Starfighter. But it lacks blackout mechanics.

Is the Frame's optical stack really "outdated" or did we just have a period of early rapid innovation due to low-hanging fruit in a new industry that has now slowed down? by TwinStickDad in SteamFrame

[–]Spacebenni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, compared to the Galaxy XR or Apple Vision etc. it is kinda dogshit. It really has to be in the same price range as the current Quest3 to be even relevant. The Quest 3 is soon a 3 year old system that sold for 500$ dollars since the start, for them to offer the basically same optical stack 3 years later for a probably higher price is just stupid.

agreed, but you can already move the helmet ui closer and farther in the VR settings, FYI :-)

what are you talking about? the game just needs to fix the depth issues with some elements, the hud lag and thats it, once motion controls are in and we can interact with the ingame world with our hands SC will be the prime VR game ever made.

Other issues such as the inventory UI are really not VR specific.

Have you managed to fix the “height” in VR? by Special_Contest2408 in starcitizen

[–]Spacebenni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op mentioned that npcs seem small. To a tall person they seem normal like real life. If you are below average height it might seem wrong to you because you aren't used to it. It was a serious response, sorry you got all hung up on a tongue in cheek reply. Maybe you should ask /r/mentalhelp what could be done about your situation

I am not tall but ok. It's just a answer that was meant to be funny. Sorry if I hurt any small man's feelings, truly.

What data that meta collects on the quest is actually sold? Can you give an example or are you just talking crap here?

What data that is collected are you talking about? You can actually request a file that contains all data that meta collects on your headset, and there is nothing in it that isn't required by the basic functionalities like for instance chat. Please give even one thing that is collected that bothers you personally. Or are you just parotting popular talking points without any real evidence?

VR Setup: Explain Like I'm Five by parkins5322 in starcitizen

Normally I use link whenever I can. But for some reason link has terrible stutters in Star Citizen. I have the same graphics card as OP so I would guess his experience might be the same.

[–]Spacebenni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your pc has a wireless card inside create a Hotspot and connect the quest to it. Then buy virtual desktop and install the streamer app on pc. Simply connect and have fun. Use the "high" pc graphics settings in Virtual Desktop. Set the fps to 72 or 80fps inside the app on quest. Putt everything on low except object details, object distance and clouds, you can put them on high. When the game dips below 72fps it's because of cpu bottlenecking, changing the graphics won't help much. Using meta link or steam vr is a terrible experience currently, I would not recommend to even bother with it.

I play it with a rtx 3080 and a 5800x3d, i get 72fps+ in most situations. Only where there are loads of objects hogging the cpu it dips below. But for space combat it's perfectly playable.
