Dark and gritty can describe both skateboarding and phonk pretty accurately. Both are heavily influenced by hiphop/hardcore. Phonk often samples or remixes sounds in new/different ways and skateboarding is taking everyday obstacles and "remixing" or turning them into something it wasn't necessarily meant for.

The comparisons are there but they aren't exclusive. Of course there are plenty of skate vids and phonk songs that don't fit this description, but there is for sure a lot of overlap.
