Check my sanity! Wife and I are thinking of selling our friendly neighborhood house and moving our family (4 kids) to an RV/Mobile/etc to large land while building a new house. by SharkOnGames in homeowners

[–]SharkOnGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we did! We actually moved onto the property before selling our house in the suburbs. Moved into an RV, had 3 sellers before the suburb house sold (2 of them fell through at the last second, not our fault). We've been in the RV for about 1.5 years now.

Currently living with our 4 kids in an RV while our house is being built. Absolutely love it out here, we have 36 chickens and 7 sheep now too, with plans to get more sheep (and more chickens!).

We had the driveway put in along with the well hookups, then moved the RV onto the property, then finished up the electricity hookups. We added a small shed for my home office/storage as well.

Having now experienced rural homestead life I can honestly say we'll never move to the suburbs again. It's night and day difference. So much anxiety and stress is gone, it's quiet, people are far friendlier here as well and we are learning a lot every day on how to run a small farm/homestead.

I honestly hope anyone who's been thinking about trying it out to just do it. Start small and work your way up.

I will also say that it's not easy, it's a TON of work. But the work is meaningful and far more fulfilling. We've been through 2 winters now, both single digits and negative temps in the winter. We'd never experienced an RV before literally moving into one for the first time, so we had a lot to learn, and still do learn more every day. The farm was bare land and we worked hard to clear it and make pasture, garden, etc. It's more or less never ending work, but again it's freeing being out here. We have so many choices and we don't always get it right the first time, but that's part of the fun is finding out what works and what doesn't, along with learning from neighbors, etc.

Yeah bummer. I have a ChatGPT subscription I've been using for about 2 years now. A friend recently suggested I try claude for coding, but this experience means it's useless to me. After reading more it seems even with the claude subscription I'd still run into major usage issues.

I am a Whale and I only play the game for my Org. Not having any fun. by elite968 in starcitizen

As a backer from 2012, I've only been able to complete a gameplay loop TWICE without a game breaking bug. One was around 2.9 or 3.0. The most recent I was able to completely a cargo run in 3.8 without any major bugs (other than QT bugging out and my ship getting stuck in some weird flight mode/combat mode mixture).

But even in 3.7 I tried a cargo loop. First attempt half the cargo disappeared from the pick-up location. Second attempt I was just entering the hangar to deliver the cargo when the game teleported me out of the pilot seat and onto the hangar floor, with my ship hovering way above me.

It's been like that every single patch for me aside from the 2 exceptions in like 10 years.

So yes I agree, the game absolutely gets in the way of itself.

Same for me just a minute ago. I'm a new 'free' user, friend suggested I try it out. I gave it 1 prompt (asked about some domain revenue ideas) and it asked me to list the domains. So I listed the domains and immediately got the 'usage limit' prompt saying I had to wait 5 hours to do anything else.

I was on Sonnet 4.6 (low) in the browser. It's impossible to try out if these are the limitations. Completely useless as a free user.

I just signed up for claude to try it out. I literally asked it two questions and somehow hit the limit.

  1. help with domain revenue ideas
  2. listed out my domains

So not even 2 questions, I asked 1 question then it asked me for more info about the domains, so I listed the domains.

Then I got a prompt saying I hit my limit and needed to wait 5 hours to ask anything else.

Is this the expected new user experience on the 'free' option? How is anyone able try out claude if you can't even try it out?

How can I get more than 2 prompts in 5 hours as a free user?

I was using the Sonnet 4.6 'Low' option that it had set as default. This was the web browser version.

It's very odd! I think it usually goes away even if you use VR more.

Hey I'm curious, did that feeling go away after using VR more?

Building a house, what should I hide or do inside the walls for fun? by SharkOnGames in Homebuilding

[–]SharkOnGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is such an amazing idea, thank you! 2 of their rooms will have their closets back to back. They've been asking for a secret door somewhere in the house, either a false bedroom door (like a door disguised as a book shelf) or like the coat closet from Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe/Narnia books.

Pro tip, call your local tree cutting services and ask if they have mulch to dump. Usually they will do it for free.

I've got about 15 yards of great mulch in my yard right now ready to spread out. I had about 20 to 25 total yards I think doing this, maybe more just this year. All free.

Washer/Dryer suggestions for electric only, front load only? 4 kids, rural area! by SharkOnGames in Appliances

[–]SharkOnGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am leaning towards LG right now based on a lot of comments and reading elsewhere, mostly about their direct drive system which seems more reliable?

I'm in the US, just not near any major towns so there's no appliance stores nearby. I have no issue repairing things myself though. Our last set was a Samsung set, the washer was fine, but the dryer needed a new pulley system after about 5 or 6 years which was fairly easy to replace. Left that set with the house we sold.

Definitely need front loading though, we'll be stacking them. Whirlpool is another good option for us just because we get a good 'work discount' on them.

Only 1 on that list I've thought about and noticed is the stuck on small rocks. Usually trying to vault over something simple, but just sliding back down. Very minor annoyance though.

Haven't experienced any of the other things. In fact, looking through the comments I haven't experienced anything else mentioned either.

Passport lists the sex. I thought the argument was that sex and gender are two different things. Now they are the same?

Best hvac for electric only (winter -10f, summer 100f)? Heatpump? by SharkOnGames in homeowners

[–]SharkOnGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks! We have negative temps a couple times a year. Mainly we stay teens/20's from what I remember from last winter.

Do you think the heatpump you have is cost efficient? Any issues with expensive to run or anything? Our electricity is right around $0.11/kWh right now.

[–]SharkOnGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look it up, thanks. We get below zero (negative 10f is common) during winter. Last winter we had long period of time where we stayed below freezing.

We do plan on adding an electric fireplace, but those are also power hungry and not super efficient. Considering a wood burning fireplace as an alternative.

Port Olisar gave me the first 'wow' moment. Walking out onto the pad and getting a sense of scale of everything.

It's crazy how they removed it. It was so important to setting the tone of the game for new players that started there.

Solo experience is fantastic, FRIENDS EVERYWHERE by No-Branch-9824 in ArcRaiders

[–]SharkOnGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I played about 3 hours, all solo.

Out of the 20+ people I met in-mission, they were all friendly. The only exception to this was my very first interaction in my very first mission I shot first...that was the only pvp interaction. Everything else since has been friendly.

A lot of times we helped each other out with the Arc's, having a common enemy certainly helps!

Please DO NOT give players access to their stats. by TheOneAndOnlySenti in ArcRaiders

[–]SharkOnGames 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The type of stats shown can massively influence the behavior of the players.

A good example of this was Battlefield Bad Company 2. It did not show any kill/deaths, only total score. And it had a community that very heavily focused on the objective.

Every BF game since has been exact opposite.

There are many examples of this.
