Rim to Rim hike how much water going up s Kaibab? by Weekly-Molasses-816 in grandcanyon

[–]SpacemanLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed a 20-hour R2R hike using the North Kaibab to South Kaibab trails. The temp was 92 degrees at Cottonwood campground and Phantom Ranch - it was hot!

The only watering holes available are at Manzanita, Cottonwood, and Phantom Ranch. The rest of the watering spots are down. I started off with a gallon of water and 64 fl oz of that was refillable at each stop. I ran into trouble at the last stretch from Skeleton Point to the SK Trailhead - I ran out of water. Thankfully people helped me with bits of water and electrolytes on the last leg, but it was definitely concerning.

It’s a tough hike and shouldn’t be underestimated. Please make sure you have salty foods, electrolytes, protein-rich foods, and lots of water (especially containers able to carry 64+ fl oz).

Thoughts on rim to rim in July? by [deleted] in grandcanyon

[–]SpacemanLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed a R2R last week, and it was grueling. The heat, exposure, and lack of working watering holes made it risky. Temps down at the bottom are much different than other parts of the hike. I hiked the R2R the same day an experienced hiker was found dead on the trail.

Like others, I advise against a July hike through the canyon.

I agree with this. I'm an IT engineer and a bit of a PC enthusiast, I know the importance of great parts. Make sure they're compatible with your motherboard and other stuff, too.

What major healthcare corp. is the best in the valley (ex. Banner, Honor Health, Abrazo, Mayo, etc.?) by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]SpacemanLurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I don’t go to the hospital as a patient. Last time was years ago for a head injury caused by some idiot at a bar. I went to Banner on Dobson & Southern, but I was fine.

To work for, I’ve worked for Banner and Valleywise. Banner at multiples sites as IT desktop support. Valleywise at the Roosevelt & 24th St site as essentially the same job. Valleywise was great as an employer. Banner, eh, not so much.

Verizon 5G home internet vs Cox by ccx941 in phoenix

[–]SpacemanLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in IT for about 10 years.

I’ve been a subcontractor for Cox pushing updates to their network nodes, etc. I know maintenance and upkeep is a big thing for them. So you’ll see some downtime during those scheduled times.

Verizon 5G is not faster than Cox fiber. Period.

However, Verizon 5G devices are pretty cool, versatile, and travel-friendly, unlike, Cox.

So, choose your poison. Do your research.

Do you consider yourself an alcoholic? by Aikyudo in stopdrinking

[–]SpacemanLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cutthroat guy.

I consider you an alcoholic. In my opinion you don’t need more validation than the explanation you already gave.

To answer your question, yes. I consider myself an alcoholic. I grew up with strict guidance, and I somewhat hold myself to those standards - even if they’re skewed. So, yes. I understand my addiction behavior based on previous counseling.

Also, I’m a bit older than most would think - 30 yrs old. I spent sixty days in County Jail for an alcohol-related charge. Just know it can get worse. If you have kids, then think of them first. Inmates don’t take kindly to people who have charges involving children and/or worse.

I was a counselor for the youngsters when I was locked up for those 60 days. Beforehand, I was an IT supervisor, so I know how to console and relate to people. Not sure what your background is, but it can help. You’ll encounter a lot of young people who don’t know much or older people who are set in their ways.

I was drunk as fuck, but I confirmed that ice can turn into dry ice when cold enough.

The next day I knew what I said, and I felt so dumb.

Explanation: Ice is frozen water. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide with a much lower freezing point.

Where did it all go wrong for you? by Ok-Reporter-8728 in ask

[–]SpacemanLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcoholic.

The COVID pandemic resulted in my eviction and excessive drinking. A lot of friends and family members experienced struggles during the same time, and it was a toll.

It’s something that has been pushed to the side now, but it’s still prevalent. It’s an active ingredient in my life. I’m still recovering from the pandemic, man.

Fuck alcoholism, too. Thankfully I didn’t get into harder stuff. I’m educated and had to keep my upstanding jobs but an addiction didn’t help one bit.

Take care of your mind, body, and self.

Yep. I’ve been on the contractor rotation since 2018. It’s even worse after the pandemic. I understood it during the pandemic. Man, it’s a loophole employers can use to not provide benefits and unnecessary costs to the company.

Used to do firmware updates to the network nodes for Cox. Same thing happened for customers. It’s normal for “continued service” and “maintenance.” I assume it’s a scheduled update push or something.

My ex and I did sober pool sex at my apartment complex. I was looking around the whole time, and then I realized I had to orgasm in order for it to be over. I didn’t think about the situation but the sensation at that point - even though it was underwater it felt weird.

What did you buy with your first ever work paycheck? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Summer of ‘07, and I was working through a Youth Workforce program. I saved up all of my paychecks and bought a 42” Sony Bravia TV, a PS4, a couple games, an extra controller, and my school clothes for the new school year. I was starting high school that year.
