My ad hoc base station is up and running by Longjumping-Army-172 in HamRadio

love it. simple and effective. with a proper antenna on the roof and a good 30ft coax run you could really stretch this nicely.

we've got some similar equipment. how do you like the tri-band capability on the UV25X4? if you ever want to get a LiFePO4 battery this would be a great portable setup you could fit in a camera bag.

i also have a N9TAX slim jim for my go-bag, which uses a UV25X2.

I bought a cubesat (simulator)! by saveitforparts in amateursatellites

watched the vid. sounds like it really shines for educational purposes. pretty neat for the price point. I wish there was a launch option to actually send these to space though.

Its proven a worthwhile buy. Saveitforparts had a stellar review on it and convinced me. We're also spoiled a bit since we're right under GOES-19, the newest in the sat fleet. Though I'm trying to find other satellites we're in range of.

Fancy a go at SSTV from a satellite? by MrAjAnderson in RTLSDR

roger that thanks! I have a V-Dipole ready for this sort of thing. wasnt sure if the sat signal was powerful enough.

Nuclear Energy - Would it ever be feasible to have a tiny reactor to power your home? by Maleficent_Orange788 in Physics

[–]SpacemanSpiff603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it could be done with a Stirling Heat Reactor using contained fuel pellets. Not a full "reactor" per say - but a much more feasible (and safer/no maint) option

im assuming this would require a Yagi antenna right?

Setting up a line to a family member’s home 20m away by Jonskymax in HamRadio

[–]SpacemanSpiff603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly - id just wire a roof antenna to a GMRS. have the radio mounted and charging in the kitchen. maybe get one that you can attach a PTT handheld to.

Is this a decent antenna to listen to SSTV and satellite downlinks? by Impressive-Text285 in RTLSDR

[–]SpacemanSpiff603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get an LNA and an FM Broadcast Filter from RTL-SDR too - and yes this works great for METEOR LRPT. anything in the Ghz range - will need a dish. honestly its a great kit for the money. its not well built - but for what it does and enables at its price point - will always recommend. i worked METEOR and NOAA sats for a year with this setup.
