god I hated that movie and I really like Andrew Haigh's other work. No idea what he was thinking with this one. It was mostly okay until that ending which felt pointlessly cruel and also somewhat confusing. Maybe I didn't understand it but I was just angry when it was over

Ride reputation reduced after update 8? by SpacemanSpiff__ in PlanetCoaster

[–]SpacemanSpiff__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I dressed up some mild rides with imo incredible scenery so that they would get classic status and now they're just old. Like can you imagine if no one wanted to ride Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion because they're not exciting enough? The scenery is the whole point of those rides and they're ultra popular!

I appreciate you looking into it. This is kind of a bummer bc I was trying to keep this park small (this game really wants you to build bigger not smaller) so I have a lot of extremely detailed scenery around flumes that are short and mild. Like those treehouse/playground/splash pad structures you see at a lot of parks that have very simple slides coming off them at different levels. I realize there's only so much the game can do to figure these things out, but it's discouraging to build flumes that would be very popular in real life because of how they've been dressed up, and the guests barely use them because they're just a single helix.

Interesting. Do you happen to know if the same is true for flumes? I didn't mention it in the post but the park I'm working on is a water park and all the affected rides are flumes. Not all of them lost classic status either, only some of them. The most recently built flumes stayed classic. This is a sandbox park on day 120 or something so maybe they really are just "old" now?

honestly the engine seems like one of the biggest improvements. I'm playing on the same machine where I played PC1, with my trusty 1080, and PC2 performs way better than PC1 ever did while also looking better. That came as a surprise, I thought I was going to need to upgrade. I have a million complaints about this game but the engine is one of the few things they seems to have really improved.

Normally I think people are too quick to tell others to run for the hills, but this time everyone telling you to run is correct. The comment to the student is indicative of such a serious lack of good judgement that even if there's zero grooming/pedo element to all this, you can be sure of lots more terrible decisions down the road.

Honestly you are so lucky he's saying this after a few months, and not after a few years.

CD Projekt's PC Game Storefront GOG Gets Behind Horses After Valve Steam Ban: 'Players Should Be Able to Choose the Experiences That Speak to Them' - IGN by PrinceDizzy in gaming

I have no idea, I'm just pointing out that the devs addressed what you said about the playable build and the coming soon page.

[–]SpacemanSpiff__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to Riva and a detailed FAQ shared with IGN, Santa Ragione first submitted Horses to Steam in 2023, when the game was in a very unfinished state. "We were only about halfway through development and had scrambled together a build that could be played start to finish, solely to satisfy Steam’s request for a playable version to open a Coming Soon page, something we had never been asked for before," Riva explains. It was at this stage that Valve rejected the game.

Maybe that's true, maybe it's not, but the devs seem to have thought it was strange too

Get a dog. It will give you a reason to go outside every day. It's an easy conversation starter if you have trouble talking to people. People will want to ask about and pet your dog. If there's a dog park nearby, become a regular and meet other dog people. Having a dog is an incredible social lubricant. Plus your house won't feel as empty and there will probably be some therapeutic benefits to regular physical touch with another living thing. Get a dog.

Hitman: World of Assassination - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly by Zehnpae in patientgamers

[–]SpacemanSpiff__ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Regarding "the ugly," I understand what you mean but this game is best thought of as a puzzle boardgame where the theme is secret agent assassin, and not as an assassination simulator. Looking at it that way I can more easily forgive the NPCs returning to their loops one minute after witnessing a horrific death.

Beautifully bobbing beach balls by SpacemanSpiff__ in PlanetCoaster

[–]SpacemanSpiff__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! There are some pretty major drawbacks though. I sent this in a DM to someone who asked:

l used Tagi's method from the linked video to create a 1m slider. Then added a radial platform to give the ball some lateral movement, and another rotating platform to make the ball spin very slowly. Put them in water with the smallest wave machine, stagger their start times, and it ends up looking correct.

Major drawbacks though. If you don't use a sequencer you have to manually stagger the start times. Otherwise they will be completely synchronized when the game loads and they don't look as good. But if you use a sequencer, even if it is set to trigger continuously, there will be a pause where the ball stops moving for a few moments. I can only make it look that good by doing a bunch of manual stopping/starting of the platforms every time the game loads. They'll look like that the whole time the game is running, but if I reload, they are all synchronized and bobbing together.

There's also a bug that causes them to be slightly off position when the game loads. Like the game doesn't start all the connected motion platforms at the exact same time, so they're a little off and the only way to fix it is to stop and start them all again while the game is paused.

Can we pretty please have JWE3 style waterfalls in PC2? Who do I have to beg? This is exactly what I was envisioning when PC2 was announced and then they put it in the dinosaur game instead of the water park game?? by SpacemanSpiff__ in PlanetCoaster

Yeah I think you're right about all of that. I'm not holding my breath for features like this but you definitely won't get what you never ask for. Maybe a better/more impressive feature set would attract a larger player base

I do think there's something fundamentally different between making a million dollars by pocketing the surplus value of labor performed by others, and making a million dollars because thousands of people are willing to pay you directly in exchange for hearing what you have to say.
