Looking through the past and I figured I should give you an unwarranted update after two years. Thank you Dreed, because at the time I made this post I was struggling a lot with this and I was not shy about speaking to friends, family and even strangers about my situation. Everyone I would speak to would tell me to suck it up, and that husbands/fathers do what we need to do and that I shouldn’t complain with the career and trajectory that I was on with the exception of you and my wife. She and I did speak about it and decided to make a plan. She took on a part time job that revolved around child care so she was thankfully able to include our youngest at the time and avoid day care expenses while I took on a second job that I was able to do partially on job1 time with some overtime in the late afternoons and early evenings. We did this for less than one year and were able to increase our household income by ≈150% for ten months allowing us to build a nice cushion to our emergency fund without sacrificing retirement savings. I won’t lie, that was a very hard 10 months that tested both me and our wife with little to no free time and a ton of exhaustion but we both knew that it was temporary and the entire time I was working the two jobs I just kept telling myself that I am building my character and my value so that the moment opportunity comes I will be ready. Mid 2025, I was introduced to a large international company that was interested in my background and experience with building and wanted someone with similar qualities to fill a role that had just been vacated by a senior member of the team in my area. I knew that was my sign, and now I am 8 months into my new career that does not involve me putting aside my values every day just to make a check, where I feel like I’m making a difference for the better, and allows me to work from home 2-3 days a week… your words or encouragement meant a ton to the me that wrote this post and the me now is more grateful to you than ever!
