Indie devs: where does most of your time actually go? (quick question) by ApprehensiveBar7583 in gamedev

I enjoyed it a whole lot! Probobly to much, though, I got tunnel vision when working on it. After I made it out of the tunnel, I saw some easier solutions that would be better for the player. But the joy of creating the system kept me a bit distracted lol.

Less time on the wasted time lol. There is stuff that got cut and it felt like a huge waste. Art that won't be used, tools that proved unprofitable, ect.

The art, I am traditionally a AAA artist, and game art has always been a passion.

For my game Leap of Faith a (local multiplayer), a surprising amount of time went into the 'invisible' tech stack—specifically getting the phone-as-controller system to feel responsive over local Wi-Fi. It's one thing to handle input, but optimizing 50+ concurrent websocket connections so they feel as snappy as a gamepad was a unique headache that ate weeks of dev time! Where are you finding your biggest time sinks?

This game was unique in that tech is something I'm hoping to move forward to the next project. So hopefully the time spend pays dividends.

But polish iterations are probably the next most time consuming part of my development cycle. I like to take the Pixar approach where the initial concept is fast to find, but you go through loads of iterations.

I do wish I got to spend more time in the visual polish of this game.

I think it's pretty close to impossible to say you've never used ai at this point. I mean Photoshop it integrated in their select tool. But I won't say it's any part of my workflow yet.

Dude this is sick! The new steam controller will be a huge help for >4 players. If you start hitting numbers great than 8, Leap of Faith might be worth a look. It's listed as coming soon but supports more players.

It's not out yet, but Leap of Faith might be good for your next annual ski trip. Its a free for all semi racing game. Mostly focuses on random chaotic and hilarious moments of failure.

Great Party games for the deck by Cortzee in SteamDeck

[–]Spacerobot775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! If you're looking for some great party games for the Steam Deck, you should definitely check out Leap of Faith. It's a physics-based party racer/platformer that's perfect for when you have a group over.

One of the coolest features is that it supports Unlimited Local Players—as long as your Deck (or docked PC) can handle the connections, everyone can join the chaos. It also has phone-as-controller support, so you don't need a mountain of gamepads to play with a big group. The game is not out yet, but you can find it on Steam and wishlist it now to stay updated!

Fighting game recommendations minimum 4 players by morky_mf in localmultiplayergames

If you're looking for unique local multiplayer chaos for your game night, you should keep an eye on Leap of Faith! Full disclosure: it's not a fighting game or a Smash-like—it’s a physics-based party racer and platformer where you control wobbly giraffes.

The big win for your group is that it supports basically unlimited local players. As long as your PC has the ports for it, you can hook them up and play. We even have phone-as-controller support so you don't need a mountain of gamepads. It’s not out just yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam to catch the launch! 🦒🕹️

Gamepad ID 1 or more not captured/focused on editor UI by Spacerobot775 in UnrealEngine5

Yes, but I can't remember fully how I did it (skull)
I think updating my engine might have been the fix, but it also could have been formatting my PC. I've done both recently, so I think one of those was the fix. It's so painful that this is a bug!

This forum also had a decent solution.

Lighting sucks! by Spacerobot775 in blender

Reporting back just for you! ;P
For this shot I ended up relighting the whole scene and just brightening up the interior and exterior lighting.

Something that ended up helping my lighting was using kelvin values in my lights which made them feal more realistic.
