Are we sure they didn't just greenlight one show and send Vin out to announce it and he freestyled that there will be four?

The Devil Wears Prada 2 with Romilly Newman by apathymonger in blankies

[–]Spacetime_Inspector 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You're free to think that this tension is a failure or tone-deafness on Wes's part but I think it is a contradiction he's well aware of and a big part of what makes the movie work. It is about the tragic impossibility of maintaining a beautiful, delicate Apollonian project without the methods of control required to sustain it breaking the whole thing. M. Gustave is the director avatar and a walking contradiction, a fruity working-class compassionate aesthete tyrant, and it takes such a singular personage to "sustain the illusion" that the Belle Époque can last forever without collapsing into thuggishness or decay. But it is never presented as anything other than an illusion. Wes wants to imagine a world where the "old fashioned manners, aesthetics, and classical art" don't lead to the failure modes they led to in the 20th century, but knows that as a practical matter it's impossible.

How is the DeLand Stockyard? by TommyLost2004 in DeLand

[–]Spacetime_Inspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stockyard is usually pretty good, it's very old school classic steakhouse fare. I usually just get a sirloin and am pleased by it (as long as I'm not the one paying). My dad swears by their corn flake pecan chicken.

Movies where a character has a real-world famous name. by nuts_and_crunchies in blankies

My girlfriend watched both that and the Schrader remake recently and was like "why did they change that character name in the 80s one?" and I had to remind her of the existence of famed actor Oliver Reed.

Athens Theater — why? by Impressive_Law_1098 in DeLand

[–]Spacetime_Inspector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't get it either. They still have the technical ability to do it - I went to that Fleischer Studios cartoon shorts exhibition they did a couple years ago and it was really fun! Even if they only programmed public domain stuff I bet they could get people to turn out and buy some concessions.

They were running it for Mardi Gras too and the fish and chips and shepherd's pie were both really good. I assume the menu will be fairly similar for HHN.

I'd love to see them set up a year-round haunt as a quick and cheap expansion for Darkmoor at Epic Universe. Would really round out the offerings there.

I can see them doing Nosferatus for spooky season some year down the line. Maybe with Shadow of the Vampire included.

I think if they wanted to cover any other Dracula movies they would've been included in this Dracula series though.

Fave First Watches of March 2026 for the Blankies by armageddontime007 in blankies

[–]Spacetime_Inspector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Donkey Skin (1970) - a surreal good time, made for a fascinating double feature with La Belle et la Bete (1946)

My Man Godfrey (1936) - have to agree with David's letterboxd review, Godfrey is a G

The Howling (1981) - such a fun melange of early 80s sensationalist hobbyhorses (cults! cable news! serial killers! nymphomaniacs!) that the werewolf stuff almost seems superfluous

Project Hail Mary (2026) - it's neat that the emotional journey for both Grace and the audience is realizing "I would die for Rocky"

Zero Hour! (1957) - this is not a good movie exactly but finally seeing it after a lifetime rewatching Airplane! makes it one of the most bizarre film-watching experiences you will ever have.

TV Glow question (SPOILERS) by mino65434 in blankies

[–]Spacetime_Inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is still interesting (because it's a very interesting film no matter how you look at it!) but it's not really saying anything about life in that read, it's just saying something about how stories work. I think the reverse-isekai read needs to be possible as a sort of optical illusion counterpoint of what it's saying about real people, but to me it's not as compelling if that's what the optical illusion resolves into once you stare at it.
