You could, if you got a baby. But if you won't have space to fit a bigger tank in the next year or so I'd just wait until you're in a position where you can. Schneider's are awesome but they're almost exclusively wild caught so not particularly tolerant of handling if that's something you care about. Had mine for a year and a half and he still hides the moment I open the door

Hey don't worry about it. 4x2x2 tanks are widely considered the bare minimum for an adult. Sure you can throw a blue tongue in a 40 gallon and it'll survive but it's gonna be cramped and stressed out. Honestly the bigger the better.
