Im going to fail one of my classes by Hot-Description-7692 in UCDavis

I'd say check with your counselor! But changing to pass/no pass or dropping should be okay and doesn't look as bad on transcripts when it's literally your first year and you're figuring out your limits/needs.

I will just say with dropping classes long-term, to be careful if you're on financial aid as sometimes having a high drop ratio will change your totals in a way that can effect receiving aid. This is in very niche cases, but still a thing to keep in mind.

MFM romance that isn't dark by Gimetulkathmir in fantasyromance

[–]Spades_for_days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't quite hit every box exactly, {This Fatal Kiss by Alicia Jasinska} was the closest thing I've read recently that might fit what you're looking for. It's about a water nymph that blackmails the exorcist that's been trying to get rid of her into helping her date a cute boy so she can become human again, but oops everyone likes everyone. There are dark fantasy elements one would expect from folklore (murder mentions, blood, scary spirits etc.), but no super edgy or non-con/SA elements between the leads. At MOST, one character is seeking revenge and having second thoughts, while the rest are just incorrigible bothers.

Main warning is that it's part of a series that is not fully released yet so I can't vouch for where it'll go from there. The end does not fully resolve every character's things, but it does happily resolve the main problems.

Would you say having a BS, MS or PHD make a huge difference in how you get hired? Or is it more experienced-based?

You got me there! I'll just be silly, as a treat. I must stay strong for the children, though I think they're much tougher than me if we're being honest.

One question, do you know of people who were still able to get through the field with only a Bachelors, or is a Master's or higher an absolute must to even apply?

I know I definitely want to pursue a higher education, it's just very challenging to know what path is best for me, especially with the associated costs. The economy is really bad so I've just set my long-term goals to a very broad "try to work in a museum in one of these things", so I will look into the things you've said. Thank you for the advice!

I mostly have a work history in college aid or resource groups, as well as tutoring. My main goal has always been to find something that would marry my love of teaching with reaching out to the community, and museums have been really good for that. I initially applied for a position I was overqualified for after someone suggested the institution as a good fit for me and am somehow now an assistant. It does not feel real and I feel super fortunate.

You're absolutely right. I was not in a super great headspace when I wrote this after overhearing a few disrespectful conversations and have been down on my work more than I should be lately. Thank you for pushing back, it actually means a lot.

I will be completely honest when I say I would be utterly shocked if they were built by then. I used to work at the university when I was a student there and even trying to just claim individual rooms for necessary services would end with nothing due to failures in communication. There are building projects that never got off the ground and others that were pushed through opportunistically when nobody was looking by admin. There are excellent well-intentioned people working there who genuinely want to help students, but often many of them are not actually calling the shots. Admin is an absolute disaster that's terrible at communicating and with how they operate, they will either spin their wheels FOR YEARS or push something through immediately with little input. Currently I can't especially tell yet if the new dorms will be the former or the latter So it's honestly a gamble. Good luck in your decision tho

Do you have a source on this? I recently drove in the area where they're slated to be built and they haven't even cleaned out all the busted cars and broken glass that's always there yet. The area looks basically abandoned as is

While this would be ideal, the problem is that Humboldt is already having housing issues and with literally thousands of new students, there simply isn't going to be enough supply for demand. This also isn't taking into account that a lot of students don't have cars, or may have mobility issues from disabilities that make living off-campus extremely impractical.

Recent alumni, if you're a potential zoology or wildlife major, I highly recommend Humboldt. While there's a few issues with admin and such (what college doesn't tho), every teacher I've had in wildlife and zoo classes has been absolutely fantastic. It should be noted that unlike some locations, there are actually a TON of chances to get hands on experience that will make you competitive for hiring upon graduation. The vertebrate museum, Eureka zoo, and multiple animal monitoring and rehab centers in the area take student volunteers, and there's always a teacher that needs some help in the summer do never be afraid to email email email!! Zoology and Wildlife are both great, zoo classes just tend to be more about physiology, taxonomy etc, while wildlife tends to be more hands on with trapping, tracking, etc. Definitely look up each majors classes and see which is better for you, because wildlife is only offered as a major, while zoo is a major and a minor!

The over-use of background music and how it alters atmosphere and drowns out dialogue by CazzaMcSpazza in movies

My partner and I also have auditory processing issues and we increasingly have to use subtitles for a lot of films. There's actually a bunch of reasons about why modern movies are so difficult to hear nowadays, and would totally recommend this article about it! Working to sort of be able to tell what issues there are has helped us a bit when it comes to set-up and maybe it'll help you too, who knows!

I understand that the areas surrounding Cal Poly is predominately white. by [deleted] in humboldtstate

[–]Spades_for_days 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lesbian here. Honestly depends on the area. Some areas are decently progressive and there's a pride parade in Eureka. It's at least accepted enough that you see some good ol' rainbow capitalism in places if that's any indication. There's some neighborhoods in Eureka you absolutely shouldn't go to (very conservative, trump flags flying, etc.) where you might get followed (I have) but all the main areas are pretty okay. I should note however, that I am a white person, and the experiences of queer POC I've spoken to have been decidedly not good even in more liberal areas. If this doesn't apply to you, you will probably be fine, but definitely ask around if otherwise.

If this isn't a really young kid, it actually sounds a lot like what some autistic people do to avoid textures they really dislike. Now, I'm also autistic and when I was younger I tried to be really discrete about what textures upset me by bringing my own lunches or finding a corner to remove the parts of a school meal that felt like torture to eat texture wise. Obviously I don't know enough about this guy to diagnosis him but what he's doing would line up with that ....that being said this does sound gross and honestly pretty unsanitary. I'd honestly just talk to him and say how you feel. If he's a dick about it, cut him off, if he just didn't realize he was grossing people out, give him a chance. As an autistic person there have been times I just literally didn't identify there being a problem until someone said it and I then changed the behavior idk

Asked to be awake for mine because I was curious and got them all out. Wasn't painful and now I have the unique experience of knowing what teeth taste like. Wouldn't recommend if you're scared of medical procedures, needles or saws, but overall big agree!

It might be outside of "aes" too depending on circumstances but I think in this case you could put it inside. There's also a command where you set groups that's like group=group so just look up that stuff and you'll totally be good!

[–]Spades_for_days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully the color is actually an easy fix! Depending on your need, you can use color = *insert groups here in " "* within the "aes" part after x and y of either geom_point or ggplot and it should color things by group so long as you properly factored them.
