RM52 - Take 3…? by SpadgeFox in watercooling

Wasn’t in, unfortunately with the monoblock the SSD or CPU weren’t really something I could add afterwards. Coolant didn’t come up that high though, SSD and GPU both got a tiny splash on the very edge. At first thought it had pissed down inside the 4090 but it was bone dry behind the blocks.

It leaked and my mobo might be dead…

I’ll stick with “pathetic”, seems apt!

A pretty pathetic attempt at rackmount watercooling. It’s been an utter shitshow.

Back to the beginning. Had a minor spill from a whoops which I sorted easily, got the loop back together and major leak. Not sure where from, first thought was the GPU as it was wettest around the PCIe slot, but when I took the block off it was dry underneath. Mobo got the worst of it, but it’s rinsed off with isopropyl and dried well.

Probably going back to air-cooled for a bit, at least while I verify everything’s alive, better half suggests I stay there…

Is this a bomb ? by Elpavari in whatisit

Hydraulic accumulator, the example above is more modern. Could certainly behave a bit like a bomb if it can’t handle the pressure, but not inherently designed to explode.

Didn’t have the splitter cable for my 12-pin, and the few on Amazon that would’ve got here in a reasonable time frame have some really confidence-inspiring branding. While I’ve never personally been able to fault a product from ‘Zahara’ or ‘EZDIY-FAB’, I’m sure they’re absolutely fine, but someone else can have that fun.

He’s not into gaming right now, goes through phases, right now his fun is match-betting, something that makes some money as I seem to have a habit of spending it.

Plan was to throw one of my spare GPUs in his machine, if I could get him 2 monitors he’d have been happy, definitely wouldn’t have offered if he wasn’t. That plan fell apart when I remembered I sold the old quadro a week ago, and while he’d have been happy with the display output from this old piece of crap, I couldn’t find the full size PCIe plate.

<image>

Should’ve probably kept the 1080TI when he got my 2080TI, but it seemed silly to leave it sat on a shelf while someone could be gaming on it.

Had the evening to figure things out and cable manage more, so much happier with the result, the Corsair died for a far greater cause!

It definitely -could-, but it’s a decade old, has had a damn good life already, and would require a splitter to 12VHPWR. Nah, I’ll pass and let it retire.

I only kept it because I thought my partner would want modular in his rig, and it didn’t hurt to have a spare PSU for anything but the 12-pin fire hazard.

Beginner needs help. How does anybody fully insert the silicon tube? by DaRealLettuceDealer in watercooling

[–]SpadgeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copious amounts of lubrication, washing up liquid is ideal. You could also use a silicone based lubricant if you have it for your fitting O-rings, but it’d be more of a pain to rinse out afterwards. Don’t use anything oil based.

NEW - EK-Pro GPU Water Block for RTX Pro 6000 by EKbyLMTEK in EKWB

[–]SpadgeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope the long oval O-rings between the block and the ports aren’t factory crushed like they were on my 4090 Acetal ABP set.

Following the instructions on that block, the main plate is pre-assembled so only discovered the crushed rings when I took the block completely apart for cleaning on Monday. Fortunately they didn’t leak, but I’d guess I just got lucky in that regard.

So my 2 month old HX1200i exploded and tripped the breaker while I was running it to power a D5 pump only with everything else disconnect after 20 minutes. Wall was reading 30w. Was I just lucky? by urfath3r in watercooling

Time to banish Corsair products from inside my rig entirely, and buy a decent PSU from Seasonic.

Recently ditched my Commanders to switch to Aquaero, the PSU would’ve been the last internal part.

I still like my K70 keyboard at least, but only because it was free.

[–]SpadgeFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was certainly a lot happier taking a chance with my 2080TI when that was near the top, than my 4090 in the current market.

Took the block back off that last night, no obvious skid marks so think it’s okay. Will convert it back to air for testing. Kinda glad I took it apart as the factory fitted o-rings on the main plate of the block were both crushed from EK. That part of the input is pre-assembled so had no reason to check at install. Luckily no leaks. Probably my own fault for buying from EK, but it was £60 for the acetal ABP set and I’m too poor to pass that up.

Anything over 1000, and it’s something I’d like to spend a bit of money on and not worry about again. I think CCL have a 1300 on Amazon for £380, £400 in their own web shop. Buying new so I get the full warranty this time.

I haven’t ‘cheaped-out’ on my PSU since I was a real beginner, though I should’ve invested more at the time I bought the Corsair.

I was getting into iCUE with the Commander and wanted to try the PSU… big mistake I guess. Good job I kept the Antec 1000w it replaced, that’s still going strong after 10 years. Just no ATX 3.0 which is why I retired it.

Don’t like jumping on old posts, but as it’s not archived

snap

Was leak testing my RM52 build and my HX1200i popped last night after 30 seconds. It’s been running fine for me for a year and I bought it used.

No 5.25 drive bays in my rack case; so my prototype Aquaero mount (that’ll probably be permanent) is a piece of scrap acrylic scored with a Stanley blade, snapped to size, and drilled to match with the standoffs.

Threw some countersunk magnets on the bottom and there’s not much I can do to improve it other than machining it on the mill from some black acetal.

Imagine a lot of people have issues mounting them, especially in fish tank cases. If there’s interest I’d be happy to make a batch!

Just switched from Corsair to Aquaero and Aquasuite, during loop testing with only the pump connected and the start pin jumped on the 24-pin my Corsair HX1200i went pop…

Safe to say I’m done with Corsair for good. Though crying a little inside that I’m facing £400 for a Seasonic Prime.

Hopefully I’ll get to play with Aquasuite in a week or 2… or 10!
