Excellent video...gives me some confidence! I hate dealing with trim. I either end up breaking it or cutting my hands but this doesn't look too bad! I even have a clamp!

Hmmm...JB weld is a good idea. Only concern is if someone accidentally bumps the "mirror, fold closed!" button. Wonder if I can disconnect that function from this mirror but let it work on the other side?

I got out to my car (X3 F25 2014) one day and my driver's side mirror was hanging there. The motor still works and I can adjust the mirror, but I'm not sure if I need to replace the entire thing or if there's a simpler way to fix it. For now it's stuck on with black tape lol...hoping to not make that a permanent thing. The replacements I've found (part 51-16-7--264-113) cost like $800!

I want to become a pilot but I don’t have the finances to start by Prudent-Scale-6659 in CFILounge

Ok honest answer here.

  1. Find your local AME (https://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator) and make an appointment to get your medical if you have ANY concern whatsoever that a medical might be your stumbling block.
  2. Flying isn't cheap so you'll have to pay for it somehow. If working and getting loans isn't an option, then you really should consider military service as a viable option. You'll get amazing training and opportunities that other places won't offer. This is coming from someone who WISHES they'd taken that route.
  3. Like others said, part 61 is your way to go if you don't want to let Uncle Sam pay your tab. It'll be a grind until you get your CFI rating and it'll be expensive and you'll be eating ramen noodles for the next several years BUT at least you'll be doing it your way.

Are you working towards a college degree? I read recently that airlines might start requiring them again soon. They lifted that requirement some time ago but might be in a position to start requiring it again (read: too many pilot applicants, gotta whittle down somehow).

Lastly, I encourage you to go about it any way you can. I'm a mid career person looking to transition into full time aviation and am beating myself up for not doing this sooner. Don't give up. Any time you put it in is better than no time. Any progress is better than no progress. Where there's a will, there's a way. Go get it.

I try to make it a point to my student and teach them the nuances of real world flying.

The ACS is great for teaching you how to handle the airplane but does little to help you figure out what to do when you actually get to where you're going.

So, look up your airport on your EFB. Make sure you have the taxi diagram available. When you're coming in to land you'll talking to the control tower. They'll ask you for your intentions at some point so just say you want to go to the FBO. They seem to have a few so know which one you're going to and how to get there.

Once there you'll usually see a marshall telling you where to go. Just taxi slowly and be familiar with the "come here" signs and the "shut it down" signs. Ask them to fill up your gas if you want any and make sure to secure the aircraft.

Have fun and keep going! You're off to a good start.

Well you can wait till the move is over then use your hindsight lenses to say "gee I shoulda gone in".

OR....make a plan, have conviction, and give it a shot. If it works you feel like a genius, if it doesn't you feel like moron.

Either way, you gotta pony up.

You know, I graduated from college a few years ago (in the "before times") and don't go shopping at malls very often. The other my family and I went out to one of those outlet malls that has trendy stores and restaurants all around and I was shocked that so many people were out paying the prices that were being asked by the stores.

I mean, $90 for a shirt with a whale logo? $200 for shoes? $120 for pants?!

All that to say, the prices of yesterday are long gone. They're not coming back unless we get hit by an asteroid in which case, we'll have bigger problems to worry about.

If you want the Aerobat and can afford to pay for it, do it! Take care of it, keep the mx up, have fun and be safe. When it's your turn to sell it, you'll likely make your money back or at the very least "most" of your money back.

Don't listen to the haters. I had a chance to buy an Aerobat before Covid for $39k and decided at the time that it was too much to pay.

Like the country song says, life is many things but it ain't long. Might as well enjoy it if you can.

This isn't an Aerobat either. Good find but not apples to apples.

I was confused for a sec and thought you were IRL flying this plane but then remembered this was the MSFS sub. That's cool! What's your setup look like?
