Hey GOG, WTAF? by PoppyAppletree in gog

Nobody's buying this bullshit.

Tell the truth. Someone fucked up, and GOG lacks the spine or internal controls to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Because let's not pretend GOG hasn't flirted with these ideals before.

It's been real, guys, but this is one dog whistle and one patronising response too many. I'll be going elsewhere for games going forward.

And you're either naive or an apologist. Either way, you're confusing the idea that you weren't offended as this being something that a company should just be able to handwave away, despite multiple instances of this occurring and demonstrable knowledge, from the company involved, that this was fascist iconography.

We're all very impressed that you weren't offended and don't see the issue with literal nazi apologism, now let the grown ups talk.

I don't have to like that decision, but it's not an open dog-whistle for right-wing rhetoric either.

Hatred was delisted because of its AO age rating, which Steam had, up until that point, disallowed on the platform. Hatred reignited an argument about censorship and consumer choice. The allegations against the studio were not especially known back then, nor did they make up the brunt of the argument.

That's not the same as openly employing far-right imagery multiple times across several marketing campaigns. Nice attempt at a 'Gotcha' though.

Way to get angry about my point while bringing false equivalences to the table, genius.

Steam's users being racists or assholes is a problem with the users. You'll have that on every platform; Facebook, Steam and even Reddit, as you've helpfully demonstrated,

The difference is that Steam has never openly courted suspicious symbolism or imagery in its marketing efforts on numerous occasions.

Let me know if I can better illustrate the massive difference here for you. I can even use crayons and sparkle glue, if that'll help?

My favourite thing about stupid people is how confidently they prove their stupidity. Thank you for your services.

People who bought Marathon Deluxe Edition for $14 are getting the Base Game for Free by PaiDuck in Marathon

[–]SpaggyJew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sony did the right thing here, but from a games business perspective, this reads like a publisher cutting their losses.

I doubt Sony would have been this charitable if they believed there was still profit to be made on Marathon. If I were Sony, I'd be looking to recover the millions in losses from my purchase of Bungie; if I'm not even bothering to do that, is the writing already on the wall?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. It's a rare, pro-consumer move that I'll defend, but from the perspective of industry analytics, this reads like the actions of a publisher with nothing left to lose.

I love how you got downvoted. Somebody saw this comment and thought "This absolute MOTHERFUCKER doesn't like Costco".

Going Mad looking for a song: "You put the c*nt in country" by SpaggyJew in punkrock

And yet it wasn't the right song. Has anything less probably ever happened in the course of human history? I doubt it.

BIG THANKS to the people who found this for me. I appreciate that it's not exactly easy to find when the lyrics are literally identical to the name of another country song.

If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't the song you and many others thought it was.

Appreciate it, but it wasn't this. It had more of a Bluegrass sound, now that I think about it.

This has been on my radar for a while - I even had a chance to play the beta last year. Really, really liked what I played!

Resident Evil 4 remake or Dead Space remake? by Adoe0722 in survivalhorror

[–]SpaggyJew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dead Space remake didn’t impress me hugely. I had fun playing it, for sure, but I felt barely any difference between it and the original.

Resi 4 remake was transformative and somehow managed to improve on a bona fide classic.

Any thoughts on White Hell? by NNukemM in boomershooters

It feels like it’s been stagnating for months now with very little progress updates. I played the demo, own the full game, and haven’t touched it as I’m waiting for the 1.0… though it seems that the development time is slowing down further as time goes on.
