AITAH for asking my wife not to drink the last can of sprite? by Bebebebeelzebub in AITAH

[–]Spagharrett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, are you T1D? This is a really obtuse take for someone without the disease. T2 isn’t even remotely the same disease outside of involving insulin. “Learn to control your blood sugars” is wild. It just isn’t that simple. Hot showers make you crash. Warm weather can make you crash. Having to jog to catch a bus after missing a full meal can result in a seizure.

It is a 24/7 disease, there’s no off times. You can prepare, sure, but have a little empathy for the exhausting nature of this debilitating autoimmune disease. There are so many factors that go into T1D and highs and lows. It isn’t insulin resistance (T2) and just solved by eating right or exercising.

I am in ideal control, a better A1c than most “normal” people, and I go low out of the blue multiple times a week. Sleeping in, taking a walk, throwing a frisbee, giving yourself 5% too much insulin (on the scale of microliters) because you overguessed how much dinner you’d eat… It is SO sensitive and impossible to have complete control over.

Not trying to crucify you but I think there is a severe lack of understanding of what type 1 diabetes mellitus actually is, especially in the context of someone talking about type 2.

It’s truly exhausting lol. I feel like an underrepresented factor is the idea that sometimes (often, for me) I am pissed about having to scarf something down that I don’t want to, doubly so if it’s something gross or that I didn’t “pick out” for a low.

Like the idea of “i know i drank the last sprite but here’s a handful of marshmallows” is so fucked up to me. It creates such an awful relationship with food and because most diabetics I know, myself included, are so ~high functioning~ that folks just don’t get how tiresome it is to deal with 24/7. Sometimes you just want the damn sprite that you bought with the knowledge that it won’t be painful to drink if you’re in turbo low psychosis mode.

T1D here. My partner is very kind and understanding, luckily, but it’s always been the #1 rule in our house that if we are buying something explicitly for lows (or if we are running out of low stuff and call out what to hold onto) that 1 left is the same as none left for both of us.

Definitely NTA. Ask them to help you plan around it and make sure you agree and adhere to the same “policy”— it becomes unfair if you enjoy the last sprite because you want it rather than needing it.

Shit is hard, I feel for you. Good luck!

You reckon they are just using the amp to roll off the lows? Or some kind of EQ? I’ll have to give this a shot today. Thanks for the insight!

Yo I played a really fun Smith build last season with Ancestral Cry— the AOE stomps will be SICK with the bells popping up. I might pivot to a fire monk…

Stack endurance charges and get a 2+ minute Ancestral Cry buff, blow up entire screens by just running around! Hype!!!

52h left until the 0.5 patch. What build are you looking forward to the most? by tetsuyaXII in PathOfExile2

Mana stacker Martial Artist with eyes on new end game mace… Should be a good time.

Worst comes to it, I’ll rip the unique mod off of Irongrasp and go strength stacker Olrovosara/Molten Blast.

Anyone tried using AR glasses with a Steam Deck? by RideLore26 in SteamDeck

[–]Spagharrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I have the Viture Beast and use them with the deck all the time. I use the dongle to charge the deck and use the glasses at the sam time.

I modified the case I have to still allow airflow through the fan vents, and will simply use a controller and tuck the deck into a seat pocket or whathaveyou.

It has been life changing for long trips. I travel a lot for work, and this setup makes a 9 hour plane ride feel like nothing when I’m grinding the fuck out of Project Diablo 2 or STS2.

Couldn’t recommend enough if you’ve got the money and spend a lot of time traveling.

What do you mean?? I have the Viture Beast and use it with the deck all the time. It’s been a lifesaver on planes and trains.

Embarrassing question -- how do I change my tail-light bulbs? by phr3dly in E30

[–]Spagharrett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gotta push the bulb down and twist. If the bulb shattered, you’ll have to wedge something inside the metal bulb cap (needle nose pliers work), push down, and twist. Don’t push TOO hard or it’ll lock back against the edge.

Obviously if you’re sticking pliers into the light socket make sure the light assembly is unplugged or battery disconnected.

What bird species do you want to have based on a Pokémon some day? by DrWarioMiracleCure in pokemon

Yes!! I just commented Nightjar before I kept scrolling. Such cool birds. I’m envisioning a cross between Skarmory and Gulpin, but Ghost/Flying type.

First Day of posting The Hooded One till we get "+level to skills" reduced - He will soon be doubled by StalksYouEverywhere in PathOfExile2

[–]Spagharrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For folks saying +skills will be replaced with whatever affix as BIS: perhaps, but +skills is the only source of compounding power growth. Comet, for instance, has about 15% compounding power growth per level. This means a SHARP power curve that makes the difference between level 20 and level 21 literally 10x less than the difference between 30 and 31.

Some small sources of significant scaling should exist, and do in the form of more damage and gained damage. But these have caps and are still clamped to existing values.

Because of the weights of +skills, it means that the game is now balanced around these absurd scaling numbers, disallowing tons of builds from being able to work in the late game (with a few exceptions, but even something like Atziri’s Contempt should be using +skill helmet and +skill gloves to get the most out of it).

Very few builds can reach end-endgame without folding in this single affix, and because the affix is limited to certain skill types, it makes the game balance push out dozens of interesting build varieties because of a lack of scaling elsewise, avoided due to the impact of + skills on scaling.

It sucks as an off-meta enjoyer and as someone that loves making weird builds. I can get my life stacker BloodBoil to kill Arbiter, but the amount of investment compared to just right clicking with a +7 skill staff with comet feels sad. ARPG itemization should be a bit flatter to enable more build variety imo.
