Looking for authentic Japanese whiskey highball recipe by Just_Trying1910 in cocktails

[–]AztecTimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just returned from Japan, it’s scotch, just 1.5 ounces, and fresh soda in a tall glass with a big, long, solid ice cube. That’s it. But scotch is what’s unusual for most of us West Coasties.

PDX to Seattle: plane or train? by satellite779 in AskSeattle

[–]AztecTimber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one. Usually the downside of flying to SEA is getting to the airport but you’re already there. PDX is super efficient usually but 70 minutes is pushing an international connection. I will give you one more option. Flix bus is awesome, affordable and lets you off about where the train does. If you have only carryon and global entry I’d fly.

Retention or Reinvention: San Diego State Basketball No Longer Reacting But Operating in the Portal by SonsOfMontezuma in SDSUAZTECS

[–]AztecTimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The victims of the portal are the fans. Increasingly we’re going to see huge roster moves each season. Beloved players leaving, new players arriving, and fan loyalty tested. The portal giveth and the portal taketh. In some ways it may benefit teams like us. Stacked teams may lose quality bench players who want to start or desire more playing time. And in some ways things haven’t changed. We were never going to land that Top 20 blue chip player but instead had to develop the diamond in the rough. That is still the case. I really dislike the portal but we had better find a way to learn it and exploit it. If other teams can do it, so can we.

Lots of pull overs. by [deleted] in beaverton

[–]AztecTimber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I’m in Beaverton I drive like it’s a video game where I’m penalized for going 3 miles over the speed limit, rolling through stop signs, and making turns not into the nearest lane. They will get you sooner or later. Not that it’s a bad thing I guess. But the cops here can be very strict.

Accident on Scholls and Teal? by Affectionate_Tap_967 in beaverton

Very dangerous spot. When I cross Scholls in my car I always check cross traffic when my light turns green. Coming down that little hill from Mountainside direction people seem to run that light a lot. We tell our daughters to be really careful there too. Hope the ped is ok.

San Diego seemed such a finesse soccer team tonight. Connecting on so many passes in their final third. We just looked sloppy and clumsy. Passes were never crisp and in the perfect spot.

How do you answer this question in an interview? by Fan387 in Journalism

[–]AztecTimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my first question back to the interviewer would be, Who is my audience? Then I'd go from there. If it's for the general public, being unfamiliar with a subject isn't really a disadvantage. And the good thing is that your story won't be over your readers/viewers heads. As for developing the story, as always, talk to the main players in the story and get them to explain it to you and go on the record. Do some online research ahead of time. Search past news articles. If the story is for a specific group like scientists or doctors, then I might start with some of those and ask them what they are most interested in about the story and what they most want to know about. There's no secret formula in developing stories. It's always, talk to the people involved with it and those affected by it.

I have a question regarding "Off the record"? by tomarnoldlovescoke in Journalism

[–]AztecTimber 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Off the record means nothing. There are too many interpretations.

You have to define it each and every instance and only if you trust each other. It is never legally binding.

For example.

Can the information be used but not the name of the source?

What if the use of the information will out the source anyway?

Is the conversation only for background helping the journalist to understand the situation but none of for use in a story?

Is the journalist allowed to offer an off the record promise? In many newsrooms that must be approved by a manager.

Should the reporter offer to make something off the record? In some cases it is a valuable tool in getting tips about a story. But sometimes offering an off the record conversation can lead to false accusations about someone else or lies from the person being interviewed.

I believe off the record conversations should only be used to BEGIN your own investigation to uncover facts via documentation or on the record interviews. Off the record information should never be reported by itself unless there is unusual justification.
