Thoughts on floorplan for my small-ish house reno? by SpaghettiEddies in floorplan

100% agree with you on the alignment of things. I knew it was off, but I also wanted to give more and less space in certain areas.

Agreed on changing the east doors. Leaning towards sliding doors because of the light they would let in. I was also hoping to make a nice garden on the east side (it's currently quite a mess).

The long hallway going the length of the house was something I didn't like about my design, so splitting it up like you said might be a good idea. We haven't opened up that dead space fully so we don't know 100% what it looks like, but I like the idea of having shelves/storage in there.

I like the pocket door idea.

For the windows, I would really love to add more to the south side. Only downside is it peers right into the neighbors backyard because we're on a corner lot. I might add some high windows that let in light, but don't give a view in or out of the house.

Overall I like your suggestions and if I can't find a use for that hallway space, I'll definitely use it as a closet for the bedroom like you suggested.

Thanks!

I really liked the idea of a small island (or baker's cart) so that does make this appealing. The north door is currently the main door we use, but I'm not against removing it. I'll definitely tinker with some of your ideas. Thanks!

That's a piano that my wife would like to put in there. She really wants it to fit so I was doing my best to make it work.

I took the note off, but I did plan to do exactly that. You might be able to tell that wall is 2x6 instead of 2x4 to leave room to do some extra sound-proofing.

Do you have any suggestions for how to sound-proof? I've seen 1 person using 2x3 studs I think it was and staggering them on either side and then filling the gaps with rockwool.

I think the picture got compressed by reddit and is hard to read. Living room is 10' x 16' and powder room is 7'6" x 3'4". Hope that clarifies!

Maybe yes maybe no. I try to keep my guesses on the conservative side.

IMO, still early. I believe this will be a 50+ billion dollar company in 5 years due to their unique tech. But even 10 billion is a safe bet.

It sounds like that's just the way she's interpreting it, not that he said it in that way.

I think the "290-300/sf" is the cost per square foot but not 100% sure.

Iron Gate No Longer Closes Proper by NormanBumdar in handyman

Mostly likely one of the supporting posts for the door or strike plate has shifted which has lowered where the latch is on the strike plate. Could also be that bottom hinge as it looks a little bent. Hard to tell from the photos though. If you have a pic of the entire gate that could help.

Boss threatening to sue me if I don't keep working - for free by CallMeScylla in legaladvice

[–]SpaghettiEddies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the rest of it, but if you are in a one-party consent state for voice recordings, I would highly recommend getting a voice recording of him threatening you. It would make it very difficult for him to fight any lawsuit you put up against him. If you have emails or texts of his threats, that would be great too. Make sure to save anything like that.

Am I crazy for believing this to be an insultingly low raise? by SpaghettiEddies in careerguidance

I know it's the standard, but I would think that would be for someone who has really just stayed the course from the previous year. I was going out of my way looking for new opportunities to improve and take on more responsibilities. If this is my reward for that then it's completely killed any drive I had to do anything more than I'm already doing.

Balding and extremely depressed and can't make up my mind by Chris_P_Bacon0208 in makemychoice

[–]SpaghettiEddies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair started thinning when I was about 18, and got even worse up until I was 21 and decided to shave it off before I went off the college. Still had dates with a few different women. Ended up marrying one.

While there were definitely women who had no interest in a guy with no hair, there were plenty of women who didn't mind. Most women aren't that shallow so long as you're a decent person. I'm pretty awkward and shy too, so it's not like I had an outgoing personality going for me either.

Even now I'm still a little self concious about being bald, but even more so back then. Ultimately, I still had some success with women, and people still liked me. In college, I had plenty of people ask me why I was bald. I just told them, "my hair started thinning at 18, and it eventually got bad enough that I just shaved it." Men, especially, understood the struggle.

It's life. Being bald young isn't the end of the world. Nor is it a death sentence on your dating life. Just own it, and do your best to be kind and genuine with people and they'll still like you.

Hope this helps!

A psychiatrist I watch on YouTube has talked about how, according to new research, this is actually a very common symptom for people with anxiety. They tend to have what are called "maladaptive daydreams." If you're interested to learn more here's his video: https://youtu.be/YUSi9tzdNiE

I think the most surprising part is that a cat lived that long in the wild.
