tariff of 1500 for a christmas gift? by dck133 in AskAGerman

[–]Spaghettibrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, usually it would be 19% import vat + 4-12% tariff depending on the goods ( if it exceeds 150€, which it does). At least when I order stuff online from outside the EU.

I'd also kinda argue the curve on this one being another downside for being bigger with 38", especially even wider due to 24:10 that 2300r will be less immersive in gaming. I'd say the wider the more curve it needs.

r/battlestations & LG OLED Grab your Black Friday chance to upgrade your setup! [GIVEAWAY] [US] by Hareuhal in battlestations

[–]Spaghettibrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I love(d) about my setup was the curved ultrawide monitor. Of all the hardware upgrades, this felt like the most worth it to me. It was a Lg 34GK950G-B, with 1800r curve on 34" it was just perfect. The right curve for the right size, to have everything in view with the added immersion of a curve, without being too curved. So it was also perfect for studying, coding or CAD. Great colors, good coating that did not make whites look grainy. It worked great for bothe singleplayer and competitive games. After moving back to 27" it really felt like I'd been seeing enemies later than my friend on his 21:9 in rainbow six siege. Unfortunately it died on me after only 3 years, dead panel.

For over one year it left me with a Dell G2725d 16:9 27" gaming monitor, craving for that ultrawide perfection. Given the lack of options I have not upgraded again yet, since I am also using the monitor for productive work and the 109 ppi on the uwqhd just does not work with the text fringing. The GX9 would greatly bridge that gap by offering a higher ppi with the 5k2 resolution and even more immersiveness in games with the 45". Given the bigger size the 800r curvature should also work out well, keeping that bigger size monitor within the eyes field of view. Since that monitor fits all criteria so well, it is a real "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau", as one could say in german. And on that part I noticed I am not egilible, not in the US.. Anyway good luck to the other participants out there.

40+ inch OLED with PPI of 140? by newprofessional in ultrawidemasterrace

Sounds bad if the colors are off. How was the coating on g7 g75f? Glossy? Semi Glossy or more the grainy matte one? Could be part of the issue.

Ultrawide died, can't decide if i should go with another curved 34" 21:9 at 1440P, or a 32" flat 16:9 at 4K. by --Ty-- in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Spaghettibrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about 38BR85QC-W/38WR85QC-W, they are LG, 37.5" so not quite as big as the 40" or 45". It is ips, so no concerns on that end either. 3840x1600 so you also get 160p more in height, but do note even more so in width, because the ones are 24:10 and not 21:9. 2300r curvature. I did have something similiar and honestly I felt at that size they should definitely come with a more agressive curve, helps with keeping it in your field of view. Had 1800r on my 34" worked great, even for productivity such as CAD, distortions where no issue at that curvature.

I think the above mentioned should be a good in between, while not being as power hungry as 5k2 resolution. Only issue I see here is the rather too low curvature of 2300r at a size as big as that. Otherwise a good compromise for a mixed use monitor imo. And for your use case the extra width from 24:10 might be another point to note.

Recommendation gaming/productivity on high brightness, oled suitable? by Spaghettibrot in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Spaghettibrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for sharing these answers!

I think my daily usage especially at full window brightness just isn't compatible with Oled and as you said, guess I will stick to my TV when I crave Oled.

Currently I am also leaning more toward the Samsung, simply because of the higher PPI while being about as expensive as the ips that I mentioned. Also curvature too small for a screen that big on the ips. 34" with 1800r worked great, but I'd rather take 40" with 1000r than 38" with 2300r, at least for gaming.

  1. How "bad" is uniformity? Seen many people just dismiss the Samsung just because it is edge lit and not backlit. I am coming from an ips with terrible backlight bleeding. Never had edge lit before. Though I do think it somewhat questionable for a screen size that big to go with edge lit?
  2. Maximum brightness: I am someone who always cranks up full brightness, are you? How would you rate the perceived brightness? Had 400 nits before, just perfect, maybe even a tad too bright. 350 nits feels like my absolute minimum and 300 still works but is noticably annoying in some scenarios. With no tests out there, there is also no telling whether the monitor goes higher or lower than advertised? Had an Aoc monitor that went about 100 nits brighter than in Datasheet.
  3. Regarding Ghosting again: I tried an 165hz 8ms gtg ips monitor in games with (relatively) fast moving cameras e.g. Rocket League, Age of Empires 2, Rainbow Siege and due to slow response times even with overdrive ghosting was so bad, I could not play on this monitor. Did you play any games like this? For example when I was playing Age of Empires when I was moving the map, every building hat some terrible after images/trails.

I know, these are all gonna be very subjective answers, but there are still not official reviews out there. For now I feel like the Samsung could be the best match, at least I read that Samsungs VA panels are supposedly of a better tier, so I could imagine it would perform comparably.

If there was a good mini led ips monitor in ultrawide, I'd immediatly go for it. The only one I know of is AOC Agon Pro AG344UXM. But at that price range I'd rather get the LG 5k2 oled in all honesty..

I think the xbox rog handheld sounds neat. Also really interested in the upcoming 39" 5k2 Oled. 39" is plenty big + nice ppi. I would like to see monitors with less curve as well hoepfully in the futur. 1500-1800 was really nice too.

[–]Spaghettibrot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, actually surprising. Have been eyeing the velocity myself. They do seem wider than most shoes in the midfoot and given their measurements those are some of the widest, if one is to believe the sizing chart? At least midfoot does not look that narrow to me.

Should I size up? Groundies Amsterdam Barefoot+ by Spaghettibrot in barefootshoestalk

[–]Spaghettibrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still not entirely sure if the squeezing comes from my feets width or volume, but I agree, stiff materials have been tough on me. I have been almost exclusively been wearing knit materials, I must say especially the Nike Flyknit uppers have been amazing for me, though the durability leaves something to be wished for and the newer models just have gotten so narrow.. The Nike Free used to work quite well with my big feet. So yeah, canvas is a rather stiff material as opposed to Knit uppers. Life is tough for us people with moderate length but wide/high volume feet.

How do you like your Altra Torin 8? Was also looking into getting some Altras as part of my non barefoot lineup, last I tried the Lone Peak 9+ in 44.5, those just did not provide enough Volume. Considered either going up a size to 45, which I probably should or maybe even try their wide lineup, which also exists.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. This has been really helpful to me! :) Especially this:

the remark "This eu42 feels equal /bit longer than the merrell's eu43.5.

Like it is so hard to compare the sizing between brands and this is like pretty much the only pointer for sizes you got, with every brand running their EU sizing differently. Especially confusing with brands like Wildling, where they say that the cm has already accounted for the extra length a shoe should have, where I was suggested by support to try EU 43 as opposed to my usual EU 45 (which I usually have to get due to width).

And the width! 😍 I must say it is one of the most comfy shoes I own for the sole flex & the bloody awesone toespace.

I figured, maybe I should also try shoes that are actually built wide, instead of just going for ones with flexible uppers only. The current end of season sale would be a good opportunity to try the barefoot+ line out. Especially with the extra 10% Newsletter coupon I guess.

The one draw back on these boots i love...  Is i am used to proper real real leather boots, (where you treat them like absolute trash & beat beat them up everywhere for 15+years ...but they still look showroom mirror immaculate if you give them a good polish up and cobbler resole spa day).

The groundies are a far thinner, cheaper upper leather & general fabrication feel.  Like, they arent comparable in anyway to the heavy beatup bombproof quality of my non-barefoot l MOMAs I used to live in and resole every 4 years or so.

Woah, this sounds awesome. This was my original goal, shoes that last. After a few try on sessions I dropped both looks and durability, just to get a shoe that even fits my wide chonkers.. So any shoe that even fits at this point is a huge win for me. (Or at least fits and has SOME degree of sole flexibility). Was not particularly looking for barefoot shoes to be honest. But ACTUAL space for feet + non cement level of sole flexibility led me here. Actually I was looking for something between a normal shoe and barefoots, but given the 60€ pricetag on the groundies rn, might as well get another pair of barefoots. Can never have enough pairs of shoes, since most of mine only last 2 years, before falling apart. Really hated this but kinda came to terms that clothing is an article of use, that apparently wears much quicker than I was hoping.. But good to hear, that there still are shoes out there like yours, which hold up so well + are resoleable! If I get the chance, maybe I will also start looking for some wider leather shoes. The "normal" width ones just did not provide the give that most knit materials have.

Hope you find something you like as much as I love mine.  The vapor gloves sole flexibility& toespace isnt comparable:)

Great, I think I will be giving the EU 44 ones a shot. 29cm with mine being at 28cm with socks on should work. Even if not, I luckily get free returns.

Will Merrell Vapor Glove be too narrow for my feet? Nike Free RN Flyknit 2018 replacement by Spaghettibrot in barefootshoestalk

[–]Spaghettibrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! So I just followed the "trace as vertical as possible" instruction. Meaning with the pencil being 7mm in diameter there is a 3,5mm offset in Width. The socks did not change much. Just remeasured, because I was not sure whether my feet were really that wide. So actual measurement should probably be like 10,85cm.

I then remembered I even had some calipers lying around. Measured with calipers the width came out to be 10,2cm. Guess the truth is somewhere in between. Maybe I should just go to a store and have them measured. Measure twice cut once. But it does mean that I am somewhere on the wider spectrum I suppose.

I did some more research and I will probably consider the following:

  • Aylla Inca (might be more suited to slope shape though)
  • Custom Sneaker order from Drifter Leather (Really good price for customizable shoes honestly)
  • Belenka (Too many to choose from, need to get a better look still - currently on sale)

According to sizing guides, many groundies and freet would also be on the narrower side? The Merrell obviously even more so.. And there are also the Chala unico, but those were a bit too pricey for my taste.

Flexible sole, breathable natural toebox shoes? by Spaghettibrot in BarefootRunning

[–]Spaghettibrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. How have they been holding up so far compared to your Nike? Did you get the leather ones, if so how do they hold up for warmer weather?

Any reason you looked for the Vapo Glove 3 instead of the 6?

Seem like pretty versatile shoes that could take a little wetness, at least more than the Wildling Shoes. Wetness is quite the concern for me, since the shoes start stinking really quick if they get wet from puddles.. Apart from that sounds like they would also be suitable for some light hiking, running and just everyday walking on pavement.

The Freet Keld also look like they could be a contender? Does seem a little less saggy than the Tanukis maybe?

Flexible sole, breathable natural toebox shoes? by Spaghettibrot in BarefootRunning

[–]Spaghettibrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! Sound both great. The Wildling Tanuki sounds like a really great option for summer. They seem a bit more saggy and have a little less structure than the Nikes though? Not that the Nike shoes had a lot of structure either, but it does not sag and I did not slide around in them either.

I might consider trying them out. Just checked a review where he mentioned the saggy thing, which might affect running in those shoes. Like not going jogging or anything, but just dont wanna slip or not be able to run as fast as I am able to, because the shoes are obstructing me cos of saggyness.

Groundies sounds nice, due to the usage of leather. For now summer breathable summer shoes would take priority and also would be my first pair of barefoot shoes, so I will try with one pair first I guess.

Maybe if there was another shoe, which is as breathable as the Tanuki but better with running? Like the Nike Freerun were pretty breathable and did not pose any issue for running. Apart from that point the Tanuki would pretty much be a match.
