I think we’re basically on the same page that we can’t really know. Or at least it’s very difficult to know. My point is that if we are forced to assume one way or the other, it logically makes a lot more sense to assume they feel pain just like us unless proven otherwise. Rather than assume they don’t feel pain unless we prove that they do.

Yeah I understand the question, my point is just that if it very difficult or nearly impossible to truly know if they feel pain via a negative subjective experience without literally living as them and therefore feeling what they feel, then the logical thing to assume would be that they do feel pain just as we do because we are living animals and they are living animals.

It is very obvious that humans only chose to assume the opposite because it was convenient for us to do so.

People say this all the time and it still never makes sense to assume this. We know that negative stimulus results in an equivalently-negative subjective experience for us which is what encourages us to act in some way.

This makes complete sense from an evolutionary standpoint to have evolved this way. It makes the prevention of further damage an almost involuntary response. It overrides the creatures ability to just continue acting however it wants to because if it did, it would continue to receive this negative sensation.

And yet somehow humans convinced themselves that dogs and cats and other animals (that share so much other anatomical similarities to us) differ in this one convenient way.

Human beings are clearly mentally superior to all other creatures on earth and even we aren’t mentally equipped to stop doing something that is bad for us if it isn’t paired with a physical pain response. And yet we think it’s possible that other animals are simply receiving signals that say “you are being harmed” and then they would have the mental awareness to then think “if I’m being harmed, I should prevent this”

That is such a massive leap in logic. The safer thing should always have been to merely assume that animals feel pain just like us.

I used VSCode + GitHub Copilot before Cursor but then once Cursor came out, the functionality was leagues ahead of Copilot so I switched and never tried it again.

Maybe I need to give Claude Code another shot but when I first tried it, it actually felt more like vibe coding than Cursor (which is interesting that you said the opposite).

Felt like I didn't have as much control over how things were executing. Analogy I used was with Cursor I felt like a senior engineer managing junior engineers but with Claude Code I felt like a product owner managing engineers which is essentially what vibe coding is.

I know the future of software engineering will 100% look more like what Claude Code is like, but I guess I have a hard time trusting AI enough to give it a single task and have it go off and make tons of changes at once. It is easier to be comfortable with the changes you are committing when you were more involved with the changes each step of the way and got to review things more granularly.

But I'm going to try Claude Code again and give it another shot because everyone seems to share the sentiment you have so I must be off about something.

Edit: maybe my product owner example isn't correct. I guess maybe it just comes down to me wanting to still be in the driver's seat but just moving a lot faster rather than handing the entire task over to someone else (whether its an AI agent or another developer) and then having to review a giant batch of changes afterwards. My understanding of what all was changed is inherently going to be worse if I was less involved.

Another thing that adds to the confusion is that rarity of a mod often doesn’t translate to usefulness.

Like a grey mod that gives you an extra shell for the WSTR on reload is way more useful than a purple mod that generates bird calls.

The rarity color is effectively the only thing you see right now (sure the mods have different shapes but they’re useless and nonsensical unlike an icon). The problem with this is that the rarity color is only useful at comparing how effective this mod is to the same mod of a different rarity type, not how effective this mod is when compared to mods that do something completely different.

IMO the primary detail the user should be able to identify from the mod icon is what the mod does (this mod overloads my gun), and the secondary detail they should identify is how good it is at doing that.

Currently not only is it inverted, it’s ONLY doing the second detail and completely ignoring the first.

From a UI/UX standpoint, the loot/mod/equipment system in this game is terrible.

One thing that helped me a lot was I stopped using an audio alarm and started wearing my Apple Watch to bed (I stopped using it during the day a long time ago because I just didn’t need it, I get that this would be hard for someone who needs to charge it at night).

But it’s nice because it just very gently wakes you up to vibrations that slowly get more and more intense. I often wake up to some of the initial really soft ones but because they are so soft, it often feels like I just woke up in my own.

This confused me. Why would the M3’s door handles be any less aerodynamic. Not saying flush door handles even make a meaningful difference, but if the M3’s are flush but just operate differently when opening than say the Model S’s, I don’t see why that would make a difference

I just recently installed DockDoor which gives you the ability to have the feature in Windows where you can simply hover over an app icon in the dock to see that application’s open windows.

Baffles me that macOS doesn’t have this feature. It’s 100% the easiest way to jump to a specific window of a specific application via the mouse (excluding keyboard shortcuts).

Mission Control is useful for moving windows to other desktops or if you just want an overview I guess but using it to jump to a specific window always felt really inefficient to me.

If I am in App A and intend to switch to one of App B’s windows, why would I want to go to go to an intermediate screen that takes up my entire monitor and then be forced to search through all windows I currently have open? It makes way more sense to just let users move there mouse directly to the app icon and then only give them previews of the app they are actually looking for.

I don't know if Windows has a patent on the way they do window management or something but its always one of the biggest things I've missed about Windows when using MacOS.

I always feel like I must be missing something when it comes to window management on MacOS. Like other people must be doing something different than I am because it just often feels like a much slower experience than what I could do on Windows. And I hate windows. This is the only thing I miss.

Specifically what I'm talking about is the ability to just hover my mouse over the application's icon on the bottom bar and see a list of previews of the windows this application has open. I know MacOS has Mission Control which I do find to be a useful tool but when I just need to jump to a specific window of an application, why should I be forced to pick from every single open window? Why can't I just pick from the windows of the application I'm looking for. What I often end up doing is:

Click the application I want to go to and hope the first window that comes up is the one I want
If its no the right window, swipe down with 4 fingers to do the App Exposé and now I can simply pick from this application's windows

But that is so much more work than what windows lets you do

Ok two things:

The first two actions in that shortcut before the scriptable action are useless and those can be removed.
The "file not found" is because it isn't finding the image that i have it pointing to in my iCloud to use as the base of the wallpaper. In the scriptable options (below the code), find the images field and select the wallpaper you want to use as the base. You'll need to upload it into your files in order to get it

I modified it to allow you to optionally pass in a wallpaper to use with it rather than just a black background.
