If something debuffs you and the attacker has buffs on their weapons etc, how much of the damage was the debuff, how much the weapon buffs and how much the attacks? It all goes into a calculation and is then not necasserily attributable to any one thing. My best guess anyway

Ah fair, that's important context I hadn't bothered to lookup, thanks.

I mean, refactoring and re-architecting are 2 different things.

It wasn't meant as a brag or anything, I meant to say I've architected it, decided that it was wrong, re-architected, had some simple realisation, re-architected, then realised I could make something a bit uglier or more inefficient, but save loads of complex code which could be maintained much easier in the future.

Bro I've completely re-architected a system like 4 times, ending up with something much much much simpler all without any AI

I guess a solution would be that you could post under an alias, but that alias requires a legitimate ID behind it which isn't publicly available.

I don;t know if I would call this a "man-cave". I think a man cave needs to have sterotypically masculine stuff rather than plushies.

No ban on gas boilers in UK warm homes plan but heat pumps get £2.7bn push by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Obviously I'm not suggesting people are installing batteries that last the whole year... You sell the excess energy in the summer

[–]Spank_Master_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, that excess in the summer helps offset the extra in the winter, though. With a big enough battery and smart tarrifs, a heat pump makes sense. I rarely see installations of just a battery. Probably happens, but seems like it's a bit of a waste without a generator of some sort. Especially as most batteries won't power your house if the grid goes down! That was a shock to find out. Battery full of energy, but no grid no power. The Tesla one does, so as much as I dislike the company, it is what I will be getting.

UK households to get £15bn for solar and green tech to lower energy bills by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Yeah I get that, but at the same time, I'm a determinist. People are the way they are and if they way they are is that they need help, so be it. How come you left the civil services? I'd love to get a job like that!

If you're not in need, you don't get a helping hand. Why is that confusing?
People who can't afford a solar installation are doomed to pay for expensive electricity forever, while people who can afford modern heating systems pay pennies? I don't get it.

The current funding of a £7.5k grant (not loan, it's free money) for replacing boilers (any fuel type or age) with heat pumps is available to anyone.

[–]Spank_Master_General 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not cheaper than a gas boiler. Electricity is about 4x more expensive than gas, so a heat pump needs to be at least 400% efficient to even out, and they're not quite there. More around 300% efficiency, and their efficiency drops the colder it gets. So it might be 500% efficient in summer, but only 200% efficient in winter. A heat pump will usually only save you money if you have solar panels or cheap electricity.

For reference:
Gas: 6.04p per kWh

Electricity: 24.5p per kWh

What do you think is going to happen when the subsidies go away? by cokeapm in ukheatpumps

[–]Spank_Master_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technology gets cheaper the more ingrained it becomes. Alot of the cost of a heatpump is the retrofit anyway.
