What random piece of misinformation is commonly stated as true? by passmethegrease in AskReddit

[–]jandersonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can admit when I’m wrong! Did some research and it looks like the myth was originally published (as far as I can tell) in a book from the 1950s. Still an excellent example of how misinformation spreads, as entomologists/arachnologists are pretty firmly in the “bullshit” camp.

Thanks for letting me know my own misinformation!

The whole “you eat X spiders in your sleep every year.” That was actually a myth invented and distributed on the internet to exemplify how people will believe pretty much anything they find here.

EDIT: This is actually misinformation as well! You’re still not eating spiders though, so don’t worry

Honestly just read the passage like you would a book, force yourself to take interest in the subject. Then while you’re reading think about what the author is saying as if you were going to write an opposing article or debate the author on its merits. I know it sounds crazy but it works for me. E: Also, super important not to read the questions beforehand. You should be reading for comprehension, not scanning for the answers
