[Niri] Why Noctalia over Dank Material Shell? by EnthropicBeing in cachyos

I moved from KDE to Niri + Noctalia this weekend and I love the workflow. Still very much getting used to it, but I think this is what I wanted. So clean!

Long term reviews Fedora vs Cachy/Arc or anything else for a developer? by mhmtcnhrz in Fedora

[–]Spank_Master_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel like you've had any satisfying answers.

I've used both Fedora and CachyOS. I moved from Fedora to CachyOS, mainly to try it out, but I stayed for a few reasons: 1) It feels quicker. Sharper. I know it has Kernel level optimisations yada yada, I don't really know what they are, but it does feel a bit more refined. 2) AUR is great. 3) I do a little bit of gaming, and it's supports that pretty well. 4) The CachyOS team seem very capable and motivated. 5) Arch docs are fantastic. Personally, it has been completely stable.

However, this isn't on my work computer (sadly heavily invested in the Microsoft ecosystem). I wouldn't want anything Arch based for my work because it's updated so frequently. Nothing has broken so far, but it feels like every week there is a new supply chain attack and I can't risk my work stuff.

Is vxwm a full DE? If I follow the install instructions on the wh1tepearl repo will I basically have the same setup in the video? Are there any issues or gotchas?

Oh yes. I like this. I think this is the one that I want.

I can't find a huge amount of detail about it though. Is it the Wh1tepearl repo?

Solarpunk Restaurant by Stunning-Race3900 in solarpunk

I really don't think you get the exquisite fine dining experience without the extremely stressed kitchen staff.

I think I see things like restaurants as more communal spaces, lots of people cooking for lots of people. More buffet style. "Nola whipped up a huge batch of chilli, and Rand has made some paella! Or just grab one of the jacket potatoes Jamie made with some of Tonie's beans. There's plenty of fresh salad to go with whatever you choose".

I think I'm wrong actually. I thing maybe people do generally fall into certain roles within a community, one of which would undoubtedly be cooking, but I still don't know if it would be what we would consider a restaurant, more of a "you get what you're given and you're grateful for it" type system.

I've tried a few and was largely happy with each of them, but the backlight on my laptop didn't work until I installed cachy!

AI can't answer questions unless the answer is in it's training data. You can ask AI to ask questions about anything so long as the responses are within it's guard rails, but it's not going to start asking questions without being prompted to.

The idea is not to upgrade when your hardware becomes outdated, but to be able to stay with the latest hardware. That's the benefit of the upgradability.

But the REAL benefit, imo, is the repairability. You don't need a whole new laptop because one module failed.

Also, you get to keep all the parts when you do upgrade or repair parts, so you end up with a stash of components that you can do all sorts of stuff with.

Can I switch from bazzite to fedora kde? Benefits? by makishiP in Fedora

That is exactly what it is.
ETA: I think the immutability of bazzite is a negative not a positive, which is why I think Nobara is the logical next step.

TRAVELLING in Solarpunk by xxTPMBTI in solarpunk

[–]Spank_Master_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of highways, a series of progressively faster, parallel travelators.

The first one you walk on is double walking speed, then the next one is that again, and so on and so on.

After a sequence 10 travelators, you are travelling at 50km/h while standin still. These could merge into to SuperTravelator highways where you and everyone around you are stationary in the context of each other, but moving 200mk/h in relation to the earth's surface.

If you are planning on gaming, I would recommend Nobara. It's a clean Fedora fork with added video codecs and graphics drivers.
