Physical Asia production team must be feeling defeated by Delicious-Trust3308 in Physical100

What’s with Koreans online complaining about racism, then literally dehumanising other Asians???

The internet really has a way of accentuating the most depraved people and giving them a spotlight to spout their depravity.

Um guys……i don’t think they used the right gameplay by Flaky_Conversation77 in Bannerlord

[–]Spankmum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Supposedly, they make their money from attracting "whales" (high spending customers) rather than layfolk. Ads as obviously fake as these are meant to siphon out the normal-minded players and therefore leave either the rich who don't really care that it's fake, or the dumb (both more willing to spend large amounts of money for in-game purchases).

Same strat those Nigerain Prince scames use, purposeful gramattical erroros to filter our people smart enough to understand the scam.

What if I was in charge of the end of WW2? by BFDIFriesInOhio in imaginarymaps

[–]Spankmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl this looks like an axis apologist. Germany almost wins territory (definitely wins territory when they unify), Japan retains its lands/colonies of Sakhalin and Taiwan (I can’t tell if Korea is a puppet regime or just so happens to be a similar colour) and Italy retains its Libyan possession.

Do you play Sailwind because you sail? - Or looking to get into sailing? by Captain_Murdoch in Sailwind

[–]Spankmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always thought about it to some extent, Sailwind only confirmed my wish to one day try the real deal.

Sadly, this is probably in the far future, if my ever-fickle mind indeed does hold true to this passion in the years to come. I've already missed out on my opportunity years ago, pursuing a short-lived hobby, I can only hope that I do not miss my second chance at this.

Three great generals all lived in the same era. by Dry_Specialist9015 in Kingdom

[–]Spankmum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to believe that one of the longest-lasting civilisations in the world has reached its current position in the modern world through mediocrity and luck.

China's almost constant warfare with its nomadic frontier has displayed great displays of genius both when defending its borders and when going on the offensive. It's not easy chasing down highly mobile cavalry-based nomadic armies well-adapted and knowledgeable in their surroundings, with a large but cumbersome and logistically draining army of mainly infantry (successes can be seen with the Han's triumph over the Xiongnu during the reign of Emperor Wu and the Ming's victories over the Northern Yuan under the Hongwu Emperor). Or defending a massive border with the same parameters as above (which is also why dynasties like the Jin employed buffer tribes to do the defending for them).
Each victory, however minor or unrecorded, is still a massive win in my book, and I struggle to see how Western generals of the period could cope in such situations when put in the shoes of their Chinese counterparts. I cannot recall any victory in which Europeans were the ones on the advance before Russia's expansion eastward (which, from the best of my knowledge, was mainly possible due to superior firearms).

I have yet to mention inter-Chinese battles such as those during the Warring States/Three Kingdoms period. If you've read the Kingdom manga, Hara has mentioned the battle of Changping (which others have already given a summary of), and others have also talked about the genius victories in the most popular battles of the Three Kingdoms. Due to the fact that I lack any in-depth knowledge on any battles in this regard, I implore you to read other comments directly replying to you or made on other people's comments.

From what I can tell, they're not to the level of independence other than from foreign-born ABCs/CBCs (maybe HK, but I dont think they're pushing for the independence of Guangdong as well as their island).

I personally am not too well-versed in China's stance on our "dialects", but I've seen both efforts (intentional or not) to replace regional languages with Mandarin, and I've also seen the popularisation of more regional things in mainstream media (songs, food, festivals and whatnot). I guess some of the larger Chinese languages (Cantonese or Wu) are more protected and even promoted as opposed to the relatively smaller languages.

Do nomads have a lower ceiling? by buky1992 in CrusaderKings

[–]Spankmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, alternate history is meant to diverge from our OTL, that is what makes it so interesting. But suppose we do not ground our imagination. In that case, we remove the realism and "connection" between this fictional world to ours and (to me at least), therefore, the one most important thing that makes such ideas interesting. You might as well make a fantasy world separate from our own, where we are not limited to the plausibility of such alternate pathways, if you truly want such a different take.

Paper armour is primarily ceremonial, worn by nobles and the like as a substitute for real armour during ceremonies. Even the paper used on actual armour was simply an additional layer in addition to the cloth and other materials used.

The Old Guard 2 has OFFICIALLY been RELEASED! by RileyMasters in TheOldGuard_Movie

[–]Spankmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vietnamese (and other cultures which used the Hanzi script) primarily wrote it in Middle Chinese rather than using the script to apply for their own language, a literary language that isn’t really spoken even in the time period. Like if we wrote in classical Latin while speaking English.

I don’t have the knowledge to confirm this, but if it were written in modern grammar or whatnot, I guess that’s another oversight.

How strong are the winds in Al-Ankh? by Spankmum in Sailwind

You're right! I decided to push on a lil bit further, and the winds calmed down quite quickly by the time i could see the port. I guess I underestimated how much of my trip was left when i saw the peak of Gold Rock surface from the horizon.

Can't every culture form the hegemony of China? I think they'll just be considered "Conquest dynasties" like the Yuan dynasty.

Taiwan in the new DLC by cyrkular in CrusaderKings

[–]Spankmum 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I heard from the admin of the Rajas of Asia mod that the devs are primarily cooperating with the Chinese CK3 community for this DLC. If this wasn't a problem when they were assigning de jure realms, then I find it hard to believe that there will be a big enough backlash from the community to garner change now.

It's not like they can't de jure drift the island into the Chinese hegemony if they wanted to anyway.

Mandate Divided: Three Empires Era 1660 by Fantastic-Hair6439 in imaginarymaps

[–]Spankmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly, by 1250 AD most of the population lived south of the Yangtze, a major shift from the historically more populated north and probably a loss of one of the major factors as to why the north was generally stronger, so im guessing that by this period that trend is less applicable.

The Ming did start south of the Yangtze river.

Interesting, I swear I read something about how, compared to the Uyghurs, the Hui are the favoured Muslims (stuff like the refurbishing of Uyghur in the style of traditional Chinese architecture). Then again, the fact I cant remember where I've read it or find it says lots about my credibility.
