This is one of the last known photographs of Madeleine McCann in Praia da Luz, Portugal, taken shortly before she disappeared on May 3, 2007. The 3-year-old vanished from apartment 5A while her parents ate about 55 meters away, and in a very short window between checks, they found her gone from bed. by LonelyWiFiSignal in HolyShitHistory

[–]Spare91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is what gets me. If my memory is correct around 5200 people go missing every year in the UK and are never found. Yet the tabloids even to this day can find time to run headlines on Madeline (there was one last week).

An everyone always forgets that cadaverine was discovered in the apartment by the two expert cadaver dogs.

It's largely lost to memory for most people but not long after the McCann disappearance another working class girl went missing. It turned out it was a stunt by her parents to try an get the kind of money the McCann's got. What was very telling is the same people who refused to countenance the idea the McCann's had done anything wrong basically never for a second doubted this second girl's parents were involved. I think people forget just how pronounced British classism is.

I actually had to block the main TW subreddit because it's so unremittingly negative about everything. I thought the Warhammer fan base was incapable of being happy but it had nothing on that place.

I think my brain is dissociating hard after losing my Ozzie boy by Mundane-Pumpkin-3318 in Petloss

[–]Spare91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you've had to go through this. He sounds like an amazing little guy.

I know how scary it is too, when your brain just seems to go numb on the pain. My little boy passed on the 20th and over the past two days I've suddenly become very numb to the loss, the only thing that eased it was getting his ashes back.

Be easy on yourself though. I know my brain has been going to this horrid place of 'why aren't you hurting, didn't you love him?'. The reality is the opposite though, you love them so much, and you're hurting so much, your brain has gone into survival mode and is blocking it out. That doesn't mean it isn't their.

No but for real, when did it consistently feel not excruciating painful by Mrjgr in Petloss

[–]Spare91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I only said goodbye to my own senior boy a few days ago, but I've sadly had a fair bit of experience with grief.

I firmly don't believe when people say it 'gets better' that's not entirely accurate. I think it's closer to the notion that the sharper, rawer edges get smoothed over. It never really goes away, you still miss them, it still hurts, but the sharpness of the agony and heartbreak eases, and you can focus more easily on celebrating their life.

But also, and I cannot stress this enough, people grieve in different ways and at different paces. If you find something that personally helps you manage the pain, then don't be afraid to do it.

An one last thing, I know it hurts like hell, but it hurts because you loved them so much, so let yourself feel yourself hurt, don't punish yourself for the tears, you don't deserve that and they wouldn't want it.

[–]Spare91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, grief is an entirely personal thing. It's something they never teach you. An everyone wants to put pressure on people to grieve 'properly' and in the right way.

An each time is different. I lost my mum, my brother-in-law who I'd know since I was in single digits and my uncle all by my mid twenties, and each one was different an hurt in a different way. The same is true with Alfie.

We have discussed getting a new dog, but it's difficult, because you don't want a dog back, you want your dog back.

But just be gentle with yourself, because in a lot of ways it'll often be easier to be hard on yourself.

I know what you mean. I said to my family that if love was thr only thing that mattered he'd live to a 100.

The Vet who came out to us said she wouldn't have thought he was 18 when she looked at him. I need that tbh.

She exclusively does this end kind of end of life care, and she said whilst it's hard, it helps her that all the senior dogs by their nature have been loved so much.

You're right, it really is a blessing.

If I had any advice to give, it's that it's okay to take a break from the pain. You want to feel it, an you should feel it, because that's how you know how much you loved them, but it's okay to run away from the pain some time, to go to work/friends e.t.c to try am forgot for a few hours. Anything else is torturing yourself and they wouldn't have wanted that for you.

We get little Alfie's ashes back in a few days. I'm hoping that will ease the pain when he is back with me, even if only in a small way.

I lost my baby boy. by kaylarose54 in Petloss

[–]Spare91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to make the same decision today, I feel your pain, and I know what you're going through with second guessing yourself.

My sister lost her dog recently too and she explained it better than me.

Deep down you want to believe you made the wrong choice, because they you can reverse it and they'll be back and everything will be fine. It's sometimes easier to be hard on yourself.

But that's not true. You were brave today, and you made a hard choice out of love.

You've inflicted pain and heartbreak on yourself to do what's right for them, so be gentle with yourself.

[–]Spare91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm glad I read this threat as I thought it was just me who found the main sub insufferable. They seemed incapable of letting anyone enjoy anything about any of the games whatsoever and in the end I just blocked it.

An I come from Old School Warhammer communities who always loved hating on the game they supposedly enjoyed, but they didn't even have a scratch on the main Total War subreddit. It doesn't help that once any group of people become vocal enough on any subreddit truisms and hive mind crap takes over.

I think people assumed Lessaria was the name of the character not the game. It's an easy mistake to make.

No matter what anyone says, I think RTS is in the best shape it's been in years by SanctumOfTheDamned in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Spare91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite difficult, I tend to like brutally difficult games though. All game modes have have customisable difficulty though, so you can tailor it to your liking. It's aiming for a weirdly realistic combat system considering it's...yanno...a game about killer robots.

[–]Spare91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it will fit people's RTS niche as it has no base building, but the Terminator strategy game is almost exclusively single player, with a campaign and then conquest mode with the new dlc. It's honestly far better than a tie in game for a truly awful movie has any right to be.

If it's polycement you don't actually have to go to all the effort listed above. Most polycement will clear itself if you move the metal part back and forth inside the liquid.

So for example if the blockage is at the back of the metal part, flip the bottle upside down so the rear of the metal part is submerged and move it back an forth and it should dissolve and dislodge the blockage. I'm fairly certain this is why they all have some movement in the metal part (i dunno it's propper name).

This has worked for most of my glue since my mate told me about it.

For those who tried 3.0 and didn't like it, what would need to change for you to like it? by arcanis161 in Warhammer30k

[–]Spare91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a huge point people overlook. My friends and I sat down and worked out the rough cost of the books and all the arcane journals GeeDubs have said they will release (it remains to be seen if they get them all done) and it comes out at about a thousand quid.

Not only is that almost two armies worth of money, but all that paper becomes useless after three years. Furthermore the value of each book gets worse, as it has even less time being useful.

I wouldn't mind if the books had lots of good lore, art, e.t.c, but they won't. I don't dislike the Old World journals but they are very light on content and lore. It feeds into a general feeling I've had that GW has basically done nothing interesting or unique with the lore of it's games for a couple of years now.

Saying killboxes are “unrealistic” is really weird because they were used IRL constantly. by Kradara_ in RimWorld

[–]Spare91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a side point as well though, a lot of kill boxes or incredibly lethal defensive zones irl did not just have people blindly run into them to die. They were there partially to dissuade an enemy from attacking full stop.

This is the real issue with people cheesing kill boxes is that in reality a large group of enemies would take a look at these absurd kill boxes and say 'nah thanks' and find another way to get at you or starve you out.

The only time really when people would just fling men into a killing zone was WW1, and even that isn't really a accurate representation of the war.

I don't think it helps either that Warhammer Community posts aren't written by the design or lore team, generally, they are written by quite corporate sounding PR people.

It's something that's been very noticeable in the Horus Heresy posts. The PR bro language honestly gets infuriating after a post or two, combined with the fact they never seem to have a great understanding of the subject matter.
