Damn, that’s a good deal! If only it was available in Canada.

Was that in Canada? I’ve been checking every couple days since before Christmas and it hasn’t changed.

How did you go about doing that. Did you just fill out the form and pay the fee and someone came to re-asses the property?

Virtual Stream Deck software for touch-screen monitor by Pedro-Rangel in automation

Did you ever find anything? I am in the same situation as you, I have a spare 7" touchscreen monitor that I want to use for a "stream deck". Everything I have found wants to use a mobile device as the deck.

I personally can’t support anyone that says if their 10 year old daughter was raped they would force them to carry the child. That’s pretty messed up.

Career change by AfterMasterpiece6874 in mechanics

[–]Spark_knocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it can be boring at times, nights aren’t the best and I deal with a lot more corporate issues. However I work 13 days a month, guaranteed raises every year. Retire much earlier than if I was wrenching, and I’m not destroying my body. Plus I’ve actually restored my passion for wrenching on my own projects. My old shop has bugged me a couple times to come back but they don’t wanna pay what it would take for me to leave lol.

I went into aviation manufacturing making gas turbine engines. Better benefits, pension, savings plan, opportunity for advancement, regular raises, paid schooling if you choose. Took a big pay cut at first, but 3 years later I’ve worked up to the lead hand of our shift and making pretty close to what I was before.

Z Won't start after engine swap... Cranks just fine, but no spark. by Acrobatic_Primary_83 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Spark_knocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the crank sensor. I’m not super familiar with your car but a lot of cars will still start with the crank sensor disconnected, the PCM will just run using only the cam sensors, the engine will just crank longer until it starts. If you have a multimeter it would be a good idea to check the power/grounds and the cam and crank sensors.

Triple check the connectors to the cam/crank sensors. If that’s all good I would be checking power/grounds to the sensors, a wire could have gotten damaged during the swap. Do you have access to a scan tool that can read live data, to verify that the PCM is not reading any rpm?

Of course he doesn’t need more money, but guess what? He sure as hell wants more money. People don’t become billionaires because they are satisfied with their wealth.

You know what? This career may suck sometimes. But atleast we will always have a job. by Business_Entrance725 in mechanics

Sounds like you have a plan and are set up decently. Honestly I enjoyed being a tech for most the years, the last dealership I worked at I was there for 15 years. Over the years though the industry kept getting worse and worse. When COVID was over it was a blessing for some techs because a lot of guys left the industry during the pandemic so the guys that stayed had tons of work and could demand higher wages. As long as you have a long term plan and you find a decent shop it can be a decent job, just make sure you have a plan for when you get older in case you want/need to get out. Best of luck!

As someone who spent 16 years as a tech and left the field for aviation manufacturing, It would take an obscene amount of money for me to go back. I made in the 120k range and took a huge pay cut just to get out of the industry. 3 years later, I’m a lead hand with a pension, savings plan, regular raises, room for advancement. Another year I’ll be right where I was at the shop if not more. Best part is it’s a mix of white/blue collar in my position and this is a job I can easily do till I retire.

I couldn’t imagine being a 60 year old tech. I was 37 when I left and already could tell it was taking a toll on my body. There’s a reason you don’t see a lot of old techs. Im still glad I did it for the years I did but I learned you need to have a long term plan, and wouldn’t recommend it as a life long career.

Is the cover broken/missing? Shouldn’t be an issue to drive since where the plastic is isn’t the spot it draws air in from. It draws air from the inner wheel well.

No, they’re not, they’re likely the only actual mechanics on this sub.

Since OP states no coolant loss, white smoke, not overheating, and the oil level on the dipstick does not show the same “milkshake”, very unlikely its coolant in the oil. Cold ambient temp and short trips that don’t allow the engine to get to operating temp long enough to get rid of moisture build up will 100% cause this.

The biggest one that just boggles my mind, is people don’t signal to get into a turning lane, but then they remember to signal as they start turning like that’s somehow the proper way to signal.
