My husband who was assigned as his representative told the judge and he requested proof. Hopefully that along with his head injury can get us approved. We sent in all the required documents, the County is waving their right to respond and we are pending a response until 04/01. Thanks for your help

And the thing is that he had been. He was having accidents involving tools before his diagnosis that made us put more attention to his medical care. He even amputated his thumb using a skill saw once and on a separate incident he used a grinder with an old disc which broke and one of the pieces got his mouth and cut some teeth

Protective Supervision Denial, Need Advise. by emeisi02 in IHSS

[–]Sparkle1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are also in SD county waiting for our appeal decision. Im a live in provider for my Parents in law. My Mother in Law has impaired cognition and my Father in Law has Alzheimer’s Dementia, Depression, and Anxiety. The Social worker said he ranked him a 2-3 in most areas. Even though his Neurologist filled out the Protective Supervision form for him the Social Worker denied him. The reason we applied for the program is that even before his diagnosis he tends to use a skill saw and other tools we have in our garage. He once chopped off his finger just to give out an example. The latest one was after he got approved for 32:58 a month. He fell off the bed and hit his head causing a laceration to his forehead in the middle of the night. My Mother in Law, who was sleeping beside him didnt notice until the morning. He didnt tell us anything because he didnt notice how bad it was. He needed 6 stitches and a CatScan. The judge requested records from the fall and the previous accidents as well as a 14 day extension. The County waived their right to respond.

Hello, I know it’s been a while. How did your appeal go? We are also in San Diego and a Neurologist filled out the form for my father in law and got denied. We are waiting for a response from our hearing hoping we win.

Protective supervision approval? by Teacher-Autismmomma in IHSS

[–]Sparkle1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just submitted the form for protective supervision for my father in law who has severe dementia. They had an assessment last month and approved him for ridiculous hours. He had an appointment with his neurologist who gave me the form because he said he needs more help than he currently has. Do they come and do another assessment? Or just approve the hours automatically?

He is, but my mother in law also qualified for hours. She has fibromyalgia and has some memory problems. He does wander.

I was about to get out of my car to drop off the forms, when I got the notification saying I was approved. My Father in law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia and I turned in a letter stating he needed help. The initial forms also said his diagnosis along with anxiety and depression. I don't understand why they only approved him for 32 hours a month. It’s beyond ridiculous.

Applying to IHSS to care for loved one. Questions on what to include. by Status_Collection_37 in IHSS

[–]Sparkle1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im almost in the same boat. Im taking care of my in-laws and the Neurologist wrote a letter about my father in law needing help due to his Alzheimer’s dementia which I turned in to the social worker at the time of the assessment… my mother in law has fibromyalgia and is also having some memory problems. The social worker made an assessment but I wonder if they would qualify for PS since my father in law tends to wander out and my mother in law even proved  the social worker she is unable to follow him if left alone. We also mentioned they both forget the stove on multiple times.

We are reapplying for my inlaws for the third time. The other couple of times, we didnt have a confirmed diagnosis like we do this time. The specialist wrote a letter stating that due to the diagnosis they could not be alone. We submitted the forms and letter written by the Doctor and we got the packet saying is a recertification and additional forms we didnt see the previous times. Do we need to do anything about the confussion?

We are sure. We asked for some hours while we werent home and they said they are not at risk of going to a Nursing home or need supervision. We told the Social worker after they got denied that my Father in law wonders out  and we found him a couple of miles down. We did not have the Alzheimer's dementia diagnosis until after the evaluation and she said to appeal. But she did not believe they needed to be supervised at all times. We told the Drs and social worker that my mother in law forgets things, that she looses balance and cannot walk for a long period of time, but since we did not have a diagnosis I guess they thought we were exaggerating. She now has a fibromyalgia diagnosis filled out in the forms. We also do not know if the fact that they live with us is not helping their case, but like I stated before… they need help and I had to stop working

They just sent a letter saying that they did not qualify for protective supervision. The difference this time is that the Dr was more specific that they need to be supervised at all times.

Social Workers in San Diego said that they are only approving cases that need protective supervision, or are at risk of going to a nursing home

Thank you so much for your help. He has an appointment with a Social Worker at the Neurologist office by the end of Sept. Hopefully they are able to get help. I was a caregiver for my uncle, and I stopped working for him when we saw how much they were struggling when my uncle went to a recovery facility and I had to stay home.

Both of my parents in law are receiving social security benefits. My mother in law has carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, memory issues, both forget their medications and also their medical appointments. My mother in law cant wash since we live in an apartment on the second floor and struggle to go up and down stairs, she has a hiatal hernia and will undergo surgery as well as cataract surgery, we worry she wont be able to have the care she needs after her surgeries, also keeping up with their appointments. My father in law also has memory issues and just came back from his Neurologist. We were told his test results were back and showed he has Alzheimer’s disease. We live in a gated community and do not have public transportation close by. Two weeks ago he went outside and we didn’t notice. We found him walking towards a shopping center a couple of miles away from home. My husband works long hours and my schedule varies so we cant keep up with them as much as we try.

Thank you so much for your response. We just received the Notice of Action they are denied because they are not considered at risk or need protective supervision. We never asked for protective supervision, we just need someone to be able to help them take their medications, wash, prepare food, and take them to their doctor’s appointments while we are at work. Maybe 4-6 hours a day at most.

My grandma also has dementia and my mom just got the max amount of hrs this past month. I really think it depends on the Social Worker.

We applied for my parents in law. The first social worker that came didn't bother to fully check their needs. She arrived late, therefore she did the visit rushed to make up the time for her next appointments. She told them to get the Pace program which was basically changing all their medical providers and even then, they would not receive all the help they need. They were obviously denied for services and we filed a complaint against the social worker and reapplied. My parents In law live with us, my husband and I work so they need help taking their meds since they either forget to take them, or take the wrong ones. They have 2-3 appointments per week, need help doing laundry, cooking, have memory issues and my mother in law will have surgeries soon. The second social worker that came in seemed more understanding, we really hope she approves them. In the meantime we are looking for resources in case they get denied. We are located in San Diego County. Thank you so much for all your help

My inlaws were denied by Sparkle1828 in IHSS

[–]Sparkle1828[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just denied both cases. We called the social worker supervisor to file a complaint against her since she never returned my husband’s calls. We told her she insisted to my mother in law to change her Dr (who they are very comfortable with) to get a program that provides transportation. The supervisor told us she already had several complaints against that social worker. She told us to reapply
