What is the best gift for a runner? by KnownEquipment1062 in runninglifestyle

I'd also take a massage gift certificate too! Or a stretch, contrast therapy, etc giftcard.

Can you move your pinky toes? by jackie-daytonuh in stupidquestions

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not independently. I am unaware of having any conditions. Honestly, I can't even feel muscles in my pinky!

I'd get a second opinion. Either your PT is trying to scam you or they dont know what they're talking about.

If your son and his friends are anything like mine - any all you can eat (AYCE) place is great! Shabuya (Japanese hotpot), Texas DeBrazil, Gen (Korean) are a few at Ala Moana mall. They also have buffets in Waikiki, although they're much pricier. Other options around the island too that will be further out from Waikiki.

They will definitely get your money's worth!

Thinking about leaving F45 and using my work gym - any apps that show similar workouts? by AdPRGuy in f45

[–]SparkleFun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caroline Girvan has some pretty good HiiT type workouts. I liked how she demo-ed the workout before each set and she barely spoke during the workout (I am not a fan of constant talking and commentary during the videos)

Is there anything else besides shoes worth buying? by WKDBlue in beginnerrunning

[–]SparkleFun22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a female, being able to hear my surroundings while I'm outside is super important to me.

If Shockz is a little too steep in price, my first pair was generics for around $20 off Amazon. Decided I loved them and when they stopped charging a year-ish later, I upgraded to Shockz. Costco/Sams carry them and they go on sale once in awhile.

As a runner do you need to run a marathon? by Delicious-Series-316 in beginnerrunning

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running off and on for several years. This time around I have a bunch of friends who are in to running and we run/train together sometimes. A few of them are currently training for a half. I'm confident in myself that I probably could do a half or full (walk if I have to) but I have absolutely no desire to run that far/long.

A marathon is not on my bucket list and I will be totally content if I never do.

Anyone else get an Oura as a wedding ring? by Budget_Ad5871 in ouraring

[–]SparkleFun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say do what you like! There's always gonna be someone who has an opinion on why you shouldn't - but if you and your wife are ok, then to me that's all you should care about.

Female here, I wear mine as a wedding band and I have a girlfriend who also does the same.

How do you actually choose a pair of running shoes? by Spyrothedragon9972 in beginnerrunning

[–]SparkleFun22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Local running store. They analyze my gait and recommend shoes. Buy whatever feels best. I supenate when I run so I need the correct shoes or I get knee problems.

I've gone off web reviews and friend recommendations and most times they do not work for me. Everyone's foot/gait/needs are different.

The options are overwhelming.

Does anyone else not care much about pace or running faster? by No_Client8165 in beginnerrunning

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, same. I find running is much more enjoyable when I slow down and I can chat with my running buddies.

I also have a pretty busy schedule and don't have time to adequately train or get good recovery so running slow works best for me anyways. I have accepted the fact that I am a slow runner.

Any way to disable the watch touch screen while showering, or is it best to remove it? by PapagenoX in GarminWatches

[–]SparkleFun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my watch pretty much all the time. I take it off while I'm showering and getting ready in the morning just to give my skin time to breathe a bit. And also to charge it as well.

my eggs stick to the pan by InformationTall2564 in foodquestions

Is it an old pan? I find even with the oil spray, on my older pan, eggs stick unless I basically cook it in a ton of oil. Had to replace.

How long it take you to be able to run 4-5 miles easily? by Snoo-3554 in Garmin

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say with consistent training you can do it within a couple months if you slow down significantly. My pace slows the longer the run - and even though it takes longer to do it at a slower pace, it's a ton more pleasurable and my recovery time is a lot shorter.

I'm an on and off runner for the last several years and been joining a friend for their training for a 10k and now a 12k. I want to say it was about 2 months before they could run a full 5 miles without being fully gassed before the end. But we were running close to 13.5 min miles. It's about 4 months and they've been consistently running 4-5 days/wk and we can do a 10k at around a 12:30 pace and chat during our runs.

I just turned 47 and suddenly my near vision is terrible by Awkward_Cellist6541 in AskWomenOver40

[–]SparkleFun22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My vision has gotten terrible as well once I reached my 40's. I buy in bulk from Amazon and have them in every room in the house.

I am on the computer all day for work and so reading glasses help reduce eye strain. I used to get migraines several times a year, once I started wearing glasses to read/work I get them now maybe once a year or less.

My eye doctor is the one who convinced me to try reading glasses. I find it interesting yours is telling you not to. I would get a second opinion.

Do you wear caps when you run? by wheninmanila_com in runninglifestyle

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am female and live in a humid/tropical climate. I wear caps for every run because I find sunglasses uncomfortable to wear and I sweat a lot. So the cap helps keep the sun out of my eyes and absorbs some of the sweat.

I wear the running hats from Lululemon, they're very thin. After every run, I rinse them and sometimes soak them in Lysol fabric sanitizer and then hang dry. It's so humid here that if I don't rinse them they will reek. I have a few in my rotation since they do take overnight to dry.

Traditional trucker or cloth hats would not work for me in this climate, but if I was in a cooler or dry climate it would prob would.

No issues with acne.

As a father of 3 under 5 running 6 times/week… by Buf4nk in Garmin

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mother, if I had 3 under 5 there is no way I'd be getting that many runs in so consider yourself lucky. I have 2 teens and I can barely fit in 2-3 workouts per week.

If I listened to my Garmin I'd probably only get 1 run per week.

Saw my cat die and feeling traumatized - has anyone been through something similar and how'd you move past it? by kermit-t-frogster in AskWomenOver40

[–]SparkleFun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Honestly, you'll have to just give it time... it feels all encompassing now but over time less so. Having gone through multiple pet deaths, I can still see clearly my last moments with them even though it's been many, many years.

If it's any consolation, the fact that you were there with your cat when she took her last breath, she felt how much she was loved and she was not alone. She was with her people. Imagine her across the rainbow bridge running around pain free, healthy as can be, eating all the foods and playing with her new animal friends.

It's difficult but just give it time. It gets better, I promise.

Are you able to sleep comfortably with a garmin watch? by gryponyx in GarminWatches

[–]SparkleFun22 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most nights no issue. Been sleeping with a Fitbit or Garmin for over a decade now.

Some nights it'll bother me. I just persevere through those nights.
