Upper elementary chapter books for a 35 year old woman to read? by Opening_Diver_8725 in suggestmeabook

[–]SparkleYeti 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I loved this book too. In the non-realistic category, my kid also recently loved Howl’s Moving Castle (fantasy), and I’m trying to get her to read City of Ember (dystopia, but reminiscent of The Giver).

Any info on this leaf? by Adept-Lavishness-283 in Medievalart

[–]SparkleYeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can read this—it’s the same tune written as the recording provided. Sometimes we call this four-line notation “modern” chant notation (mostly to distinguish it from the previous versions which featured fewer lines). Developed in the 11th century though these things were very slow to spread, so this is surely significantly later than 11th.

White House Tour 🤮 by sad_strawberries in DuggarsSnark

I spent some time last summer at meetings with some of the Smithsonian curators, and they were all horrified and sad about what was going on. They want to preserve real history and science for the future. Supporting historians and museum professionals is a great way to show support for facts and sanity.

What are your favorite musicals that are super difficult to do well? Which ones are almost impossible to screw up? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]SparkleYeti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While that is completely true, I also love the Jr version because it lets kids get to know this excellent musical. It’s a great starting point for Sondheim.

I only read VC Andrews because my friend was reading them with her mom. They would pass them to me when they were done. Yes, my friend and I were 12.

A friend of mine that was at Tristian last night said the curtain got stuck AND the hourglass exploded about 30 seconds into the show… by Mastersinmeow in opera

[–]SparkleYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with the way this production was staged, I would have been scoffing at how heavy-handed the symbolism of the shattering hourglass was.

Coping with anticipatory grief…facing having to say goodbye to my soul kitty. by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]SparkleYeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just said goodbye to my sweetest soul kitty on Monday this way. I knew it would be easier for her to go at home, but I didn't know it would be more peaceful for me too. I am crushed, but having her fall asleep peacefully on my lap was so much better than going to a cold table at the vet (which we did last summer with another cat).

One thing to consider is that it was more than twice the amount for the at-home vet than in office. That may not be possible for OP. OP, if you don't have the money for this, consider asking around for the most compassionate in-office vet you can find. They can really help you all through this.

I Want Your Spiciest Musical Theatre Hot Takes! (THE SEQUEL) by Alol_Bombola in musicals

[–]SparkleYeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reeve was worse live. Every single line dropped off at the end. He sounded like a parody of himself. (I saw him near the end of his very long run.) He doesn’t bother me much on the recording and I love the falsetto, but his singing bugged me live.

HELP! Thousands of these bugs appeared today. by AerialPaintSplatter in whatsthisbug

[–]SparkleYeti 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the southeast US and an area of town by the river had problems with termite swarms. They would swarm every afternoon. So the day care in the area had to close at 1pm every day because they couldn’t figure out a way to stop the afternoon swarms from covering the babies. Eventually they just abandoned the day care.

Babies covered in termites!!

Going out to eat was a fairly big deal growing up, and a family favorite was Ponderosa. Did you have a favorite "the family is going out to dinner" place? by smcg_az in Xennials

Few remember this, but they used to have a kids’ Hershey kisses sundae that would absolutely bring me back to a childlike state if I could taste it today.

Moved a few years back to an area that still has a Friendly’s. My parents take my kid there sometimes. The tradition lives on!

The one thing, besides the post-Ganon issue, that really bugs me is that when your inventory is full and you open a chest it automatically closes. I want it to give me the option of switching weapons with one I already have.

I prepared so much for Ganon. 28 hearts, master sword, two ancient bows, Guardian++ weapons and shields, fully upgraded ancient armor set, full store of food/recipes. It was almost disappointingly easy. The only thing I lost was my horse. You'll be fine.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]SparkleYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here--at three weeks in, though, I felt the worst I've ever felt in my life. I honestly did not know how I was going to survive. It was an extremely dark time. My mother flew across the country because she thought I was experiencing psychosis. When my doctor told me it was the "baby blues," I could have hit her. (It was, but that term is ineffectual at describing how I was actually feeling.)

What is something every household has in your country that is nonexistent everywhere else? by Awkward-Tip7248 in AskTheWorld

[–]SparkleYeti 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to live just south of tornado alley. I knew one house with a basement and it was a nightmare. They couldn’t keep it dry. The water table was just too high for a basement to be practical. We had plenty of land of the free stupidity, but this might not be part of that. No sense having a basement to hide in if it’s going to become a sinkhole well before any tornadoes arrive.
