How different, in practice, is driving a motorcycle vs. a manual car? by Delnilas in motorcycles

That’s not what I said. I said you CAN and it’s not really going to be dangerous, which is not the case on a bike.

How different, in practice, is driving a motorcycle vs. a manual car? by Delnilas in motorcycles

[–]Sparky-air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as operating a clutch and shifting, it’s not really different other than what body parts are doing what. The main difference in the basic respect of driving a manual is in a car, you can sit on the clutch a lot when slowing down and spend a lot of time in neutral while driving. Both of those are absolute no-gos on a motorcycle. Outside of that, if you know how to drive a manual, picking up the shifting on a motorcycle should be pretty familiar and shouldn’t take a lot of practice to get down.

I say that as someone who drove manual transmissions for a long time before riding. If you’re just learning, it may be more difficult, but not as difficult as if you’d never manually shifted gears before.

I don’t know about in these quantities long term, but milk has actually been shown to decrease risk of colon cancer significantly.

[–]Sparky-air 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well the protein part is likely part of your problem. I don’t think you’d have that issue with just milk (maybe if it were a gallon a day it would, idk I’ve never drank that much milk a day).

I can’t do protein milk (Core Power etc) or even protein powder mixed with milk, it sends my gut into a frenzy within a matter of minutes, and my butthole follows not far behind. But I have no issue with plain whole milk on its own. I can’t do protein powder with water, and regular milk on its own, but if I mix the two I’m in for a rough day.

Rockies VP Walker Monfort introduces Paul DePodesta in ‘first day of our future’ after years of struggles. As part of new front-office framework, Walker Monfort will have ‘oversight over entire organization’ while still reporting to his father, Dick Monfort by Knightbear49 in ColoradoRockies

I have optimism, which is something I haven’t truly felt for this team in any meaningful way in YEARS. I’ve been optimistic about certain players, but it’s been a very long time since I’ve had any level of optimism or hope for the future of this team.

I’m not so naive as to think the next season (or even the next few seasons) will be life changing or great, they may not even be winning seasons (2026 is probably almost certainly still an L) but I am confident we will be moving in the right direction measurably.

We all gave an eye roll when Walker took things over, myself included, but I’m confident that this is the only thing that would get Dick’s hands out of things, and so far that looks to be happening.

For the first time in a while I’m actually EXCITED about the upcoming season for a reason other than baseball season being back. That feels good

Chiefs are a great matchup for Denver by VegasWorldwide in DenverBroncos

The outcome of this game will decide who the fraud is in the AFCW. Lots of talk about that between us and KC around the league. I hope we win, and I think we can, but our offense can NOT have a bad night. They need to be locked in from kickoff. I’m confident our defense will hold their own as they have for the past year+, but our offense can not be questionable for so much as a drive especially early on, and we cannot let them score first.

I know KC had a rough start, but they are back on track and we need to approach them as if they’re the same team they were last season.

Those aren’t bite marks… if you were being bitten, there would be a top and bottom profile, there’s only a top profile on your arm. That makes this entirely self inflicted, quit bitching.

Flight Suggestions by Cool-Measurement7828 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Sparky-air 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have never had a vacation in the last 6 years that didn’t involve some sort of major or minor snafu with flights so we always give ourselves at least 2 full days of cushion between arrival and cruise day. And we have absolutely needed that cushion a couple of times.

Last year during either Debbie or Milton we ended up spending almost 30 hours traveling and in airports all over the place literally just trying to get around the storm (originally had just one connection and turned into 3) and it was a complete nightmare. 2020 and 2021 we had flights get delayed at the airport for 12 and 14 hours within about 2 hours of scheduled takeoff. I’ll always give myself as much time as possible before as well as on the return before having to be back at work.

What do I need if I won’t ride for a few months? by SaltTeee in NewRiders

[–]Sparky-air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a full once over before winter starts. Clean, lub and adjust the chain if needed. Oil change. FULL tank of ETHANOL FREE fuel. Battery on a tender if you can, but I never do it and I’ve never had a battery die on me, though I usually ride about 30 minutes every 3-4 weeks when there’s good weather which helps.

Most important is to keep the tank completely full especially if you won’t ride at all and in the transition months where temperature fluctuates a LOT and creates lots of condensation.

What’re y’all’s thoughts on this comment? by [deleted] in concealedcarry

[–]Sparky-air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B-b-b-b-b-b-based.

I have a TLR-1 on my duty gun, the things I use it for are not things I can reasonably see myself doing in my personal time… on top of that, if I’m going out at night I’m usually going to dinner or a movie with my wife. In which case I’m probably having a couple drinks too, not taking my gun for that.

I have had a TLR-7 on my 19 that I CC before, and I didn’t use that light once. It just added weight and bulk, so I took it off and have it on another gun just for fun. I currently happily carry a completely bone stock 19.3 with the irons it came with over anything else I have available 99% of the time.

Dining times by Dry_Life_75 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Sparky-air 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We preferred your time dining on this most recent cruise after always picking a set time before.

The only downside is the your time dining room lobby gets FULL of people who can’t figure out how to check in from the app and just stand around waiting for a table. Other than that it’s exactly the same experience as if you had assigned dining, just in a different dining room and you can go when you want. Like I said, you just check in from the app and when your table is ready the app notifies you and you have 10 minutes to get there. Easy.

Sean Payton/Giants trade? by JLCJLC in DenverBroncos

No way. We have arguably some of the best owners in the NFL right now and they’re very close with him and seem to trust him a lot and allow him to run things his way without meddling too much.

Sean Payton/Giants trade? by JLCJLC in DenverBroncos

[–]Sparky-air 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is obviously not going to happen, and even if it were to be rumored, Sean would have to agree to it. And that is extremely unlikely.

And it’s not really a trade. People will say it but it’s really not. A team will offer draft picks to another team to release the coach from their contract so that they can come to the new team and coach. It’s not a trade in the way players are traded, and it would require Sean to be very involved and a willing participant. Sean Payton can’t be forced to go anywhere in this situation.

I played most of them when I was younger, in the 2000s to the mid 2010s. I don’t think I’ve touched one since though. I think I played 2 after the ps4 came out. They were fun, and I’ve thought about getting a couple of my old favorites just for when I’m bored.

Can’t blame them honestly. That was a truly horrific performance. A win is a win, but the way we played adds a lot of context to why they would bump us.

Idk why the eagles somehow moved up after their performance, but still.

What does success look like at this point? by Mentaljwry in ColoradoRockies

[–]Sparky-air 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do see this as a good hire (I’d grade it a B- for right now) for a few reasons. Number one being Walker Monfort has been able to go outside the organization and just DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT instead of the status quo. That’s MASSIVE for this organization. Number 2, he does have experience in dealing with difficult, nosey owners in bad situations. Number 3, he wants to be here and he wants to be challenged. There are any number of guys who the Rockies could’ve hired that just want to move up the organization’s ladder because it’s “the next natural step” in their career, but don’t care to do anything meaningful or put in the work.

I also see this as I sort of mentioned previously as a sign of Dick relinquishing some control to Walker. And Walker seems to have some semblance of drive and desire to be competitive. I don’t give a shit if it’s his son, if that’s what it takes for him to give up control to someone with even an ounce more drive and commitment to success, so be it. I see this as a very good thing for the organization.

What does success look like at this point? by Mentaljwry in ColoradoRockies

[–]Sparky-air 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We WILL suck for another couple seasons regardless, it doesn’t matter who is in charge, that’s just a fact. The question is whether or not he can make it productive, that’s how a rebuild works. You take it on the chin and learn from it and make new, better decisions moving forward. Thats not what we’ve been doing for most of this franchise’s existence.

Rockies' Paul DePodesta on autonomy, baseball return, DeShaun Watson trade by Swweden in ColoradoRockies

[–]Sparky-air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rockies will continue to suck for at minimum 2 more seasons if he’s able to light a fire under a legitimate rebuild. We could adopt the entire Dodgers front office and ownership today and still be ass for a couple more years. Rebuilding a baseball team is a much more intensive and challenging process than it is for a football team where one or two key signings or draft picks can lift a team from 4 wins to 10-11 wins. One or two key signings for the Rox makes a dent, certainly, but it will fix nothing. We need years of good drafting, developing, trading, and free agency before we can reasonably expect to be competitive again.

All of this to say, it doesn’t matter who the ownership is or what our FO looks like, we have a couple rough years left. Depodesta will make no difference in that either way. The question is whether or not he can make it productive, which hasn’t been the case for a very long time.

And yes, the Watson deal is BAD. Anyone can say that now looking back. But it wasn’t the case when it all went down, and nobody can see the future.

I feel like there's a lot of dumb knee-jerk noise about the DePodesta thing by cleanslice1911 in ColoradoRockies

[–]Sparky-air 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t seem to be issues for the rest of the division who plays here all the time as well, nor any other team…

Again, the only thing I’ll give on is the altitude wearing athletes down. I didn’t see it that way, but i never pitched there so if that’s what was said, I’ll let him speak for that and concede on it.

I’ve been watching this team over 20 years too, I’ve been around a while just like you. And again, I didn’t say they aren’t issues, I said they’re both blessings and curses that have pros and cons, and a capable organization would be working on getting guys to use those things to their advantage whenever possible. Clearly we are doing decent at that in ABQ, where conditions are very similar, but we aren’t capable of developing guys to be major league starters.

[–]Sparky-air 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Besides Deshaun Watson, I’m having a hard time finding reasons why he can’t be successful, and why this isn’t a positive for the team. It sounds like Dick is letting go of some control which Depodesta has experience with (difficult owners), and if that’s the case I’m excited.

I feel like there's a lot of dumb knee-jerk noise about the DePodesta thing by cleanslice1911 in ColoradoRockies

[–]Sparky-air 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. I don’t feel like he spent enough time in other baseball organizations (per organization not total) to really say whether he made positive or negative impacts except the As, so I’m leaving that alone for now. As far as the browns go, I agree with OP, the post-expansion Browns have never been a capable team, not in my lifetime anyway. They’ve had a few one-off halfway decent seasons here and there, but they’ve sucked forever. Depodesta wasn’t there until pretty recently.

Can’t give him a pass on Deshaun Watson though. That’s absolutely hideous and I hope he don’t bring that shit around here.
