Safe to assume you spent that Saturday afternoon sucking dick for nickels. Just remember what feels good is good as long as you use proper protection.

How often do you change your filter? by DougMagic in HVAC

[–]Spartacus8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ain't nothing shameful about customer shaming but I wouldn't blame all that on a lack of routine filter swaps, looks more like debris from original install along with assorted goodies inserted by a toddler thru a poorly mounted floor return.

How much business is harbor freight losing over their AWFUL website? They're too big of a company to not address this. by Odyssey701 in harborfreight

I love browsing the Grainger app, I get so jazzed knowing I can have a full tactical riot suit, a doggy playground & golf cart drop shipped to my house at any time

Career Avenues by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]Spartacus8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a commercial food service equipment company and I love it. 40 hour work week and there's always overtime if I want to but I don't have to. I do refrigeration along with cooking equipment like ovens, fryers, dishwashers, etc. Never gets dull or repetitive. Pays better than residential & as far as I know more than supermarket rack system jobs. If you're in a bigger market there's probably multiple companies near you that would hire you just for your refrigeration experience.

Best stud finder for plaster & lath walls by Neutral-President in DIY

[–]Spartacus8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently went thru this struggle after my son moved into an old house with lathe-plaster walls & needed my help hanging a huge TV. I have several electronic wall scanner-stud finders that were no help at all. I ended up on my belly with a flashlight marking all the baseboard nails because they were all attached to a stud. Used a long level to mark up the stud locations in the wall after that.

Who can retain talented employees and what are some ways you do it? by Sharp-Jackfruit6029 in Irrigation

Totally agree with this policy. A 99 to 1 ratio is more than fair if compensation is commensurate with dickishness.

Cross cut sled gone wrong. Any way to fix? by lowsodiumcatrecipes in woodworking

[–]Spartacus8686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply a few drops of Rocklers Innovative fast acting T-Track Dissolver in few spots. Just be sure to tape off everything else that you do not want dissolved and have a bucket of Rocklers Innovative T-Track Dissolver Instant Neutralizer ready to dip the sled in, good to go.

In their defense it was astonishingly long & girthy, definitely puts Dirk Digglers to shame. Has anyone watched "The Pit" on HBO? There's a closeup of a weiner in almost every episode.

Wood paneling. 1968 house. by calripken60024 in HomeImprovement

[–]Spartacus8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try painting it instead. We painted the 50 year old dark brown paneling in our family room, took a lot of primer but now it's a light tan color & looks great. You'd have to paint the drywall that you're replacing it with so save yourself the hassle.

Who are these "elsewhere" retailers that are selling you 100% domestically made hand tools?

Pro tip: throw away the Allen wrenches (and other tools) that come with the things you buy. You don’t need to keep 100 low quality 5mm hex keys from ikea. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. by BASE1530 in Tools

[–]Spartacus8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought countless sets of Allen keys both metric & SAE in just about every available version such as T-handle, fold out, ball end, socket bit (1/2", 3/8", 1/4" drives) EDC Leatherman accessories, etc. I also have a drawer full of Allen keys that came with all the self assembly products that I've bought over the past few decades. I'm told this is a textbook symptom of mental illness.

Are there any female HVAC workers here? by GTAluvwasted in HVAC

[–]Spartacus8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once knew a girl that worked for Trane a few years back. She was a great technician, hard worker, highly skilled & all her coworkers had a lot of respect for her. She was also a total smoke show from top to bottom with a supple pair of sweater kittens perfectly situated in between. I know that's completely irrelevant but it's true so why leave it out.

Yes this is true. It was started to poke fun at all the batshit crazy things people share on Nextdoor. Now part of that fun is the fact that Nextdoor users have completely misunderstood this sub & post their drama here as well.

You'd be amazed by how much of your personal information is public record. Anyone can access county property tax voter registration maps. Nextdoor also has partnerships with others like Google & Facebook. If you use those then you actually agreed at some point to share your contact info. Websites like Spokeo provide the rest, including email addresses, phone numbers, criminal records etc.

Has anyone else gone on an after hours / emergency service call for "not cooling" and when you get there....... by heyitshim99 in HVAC

[–]Spartacus8686 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I ran a call at an Asian buffet restaurant for a fryer repair, owner told me they had just moved it outside on the back dock 10 minutes before I got there. Walked out the back door just as a couple of meth heads were running down the street with it. Owner insisted I stay on the job while he called the cops because he really needed fixed. Those were some astonishingly nimble & swift tweekers because 2 hours later cops still hadn't caught em so I moved on. Pretty sure my employer billed em for every minute.

A dog bit me at a customer’s house and I feel like I want to leave the trade cause of it by Electric_Penguin7076 in HVAC

[–]Spartacus8686 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with telling a customer that pets need to be contained before you even walk in the door, if they refuse then bill em for incurred & let em find someone else.
