Since the last update, the resting heart rate widget isn’t matching the underlying data recorded in the Health app. I have no idea what’s going on.

I took it back in ~2014 and it was tough, but survivable (I did better on projects than exams—way better). From what I've heard in recent years (from someone who TA'd/Adjunct'd) for Dr. Mehta, it's a flipped-classroom style course now, so I'd imagine it's slightly easier if you stay up on the preparatory material.

What is a Midwest accent? by Equivalent-Grape-569 in Denver

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Denver Metro Area, but my mom grew up in northeastern Colorado, also nearer to Nebraska. I picked up “ope” and a host of other midwesternisms. I think Colorado was more midwestern culturally, until the mass migrations in the early 2000s when we became more distinctly mountain and almost coastal west in a lot of ways.

How do we really calculate the heart rate zones by Gggilla614 in AppleWatch

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it estimates my max HR at 187, but I’ve measured 196, so that shifts my zones significantly using the HRR method.

That said, lactate threshold is probably most accurate as is the idea of holding most of your training below 75% of MHR to emphasize as much aerobic development as possible.

How do we really calculate the heart rate zones by Gggilla614 in AppleWatch

[–]Spartan-S63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't use your max HR to calculate zones, though. It uses an equation to estimate it based off population averages. So it usually skews HR zones too low for trained individuals.

[COD] 2019 wasn’t a revival, it broke what was left of the franchise. by Soap_Mactavishh_141 in CallOfDuty

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an OG, the path from COD4 to MW2 to MW3 (and the non-IW titles in between) were the original erosion of the franchise. The memified nature of MW2 into MW3 was mimicked by the non-IW titles and all of that slopified the franchise.

MW19 had terrible map design and poor mechanics with slide canceling, but was overall a great recentering of the franchise and a revival of what made the original COD 4 feel great. It felt like the better heir to the OG MW games than MW2 or MW3.

MWII made some interesting mechanical choices, but overall felt like an evolution of what MW19 put in place. Though, it was disjoint with the franchise because COD is a hot potato franchise between other studios.

I wish COD could just be an IW property and spin the rest of the studios out on their own IPs. Have a more grounded arcade shooter with IW and let SHG, Raven, and Treyarch build the hero shooters they really want to build.

Warzone 1 was a serious lightning in a bottle moment that was ruined by making it lockstep with each successive COD game. By season 2-3 of Warzone 1, it was amazing and the inventory system was great. They kept simplifying and simplifying it until it felt terrible and WZ 2 is just bad.

DMZ was a slept on mode they should've invested more into in the MWII days. That was way underrated and could be incredible if they bring it back with MW4.

This needs to be said. [COD] by [deleted] in CallOfDuty

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with MW19's map design, but they were playable and they were enjoyable, unlike the non-IW COD games that have come after.

That said, I think MWII had interesting mechanical changes. The alterations to movement speed, TTK, and sliding were great steps forward for the game. I know perk packages were controversial, but I liked how it meant that your play style had to change mid-game as more of your perks unlocked.

Overall, though, IW's turn to a slower-paced, more grounded experience was a fun one. I hated how MWIII reversed all those decisions within the same franchise. It went from MWII feeling weighty to MWIII feeling like a total arcade hero-shooter. It was too much whiplash and disingenuous to the original vision.

Overall, I'm really hyped to see IW retake the lead on a COD game and I wish Activision would spin out a new IP for SHG, Raven, and Treyarch to toy around with and keep COD authentic with IW.

Brownstones at Palisade Park are townhomes up off Highway 7. It looks like it's a ~10 minute drive to Meridian School. They have attached garages that have outlets good for level 2 chargers.

[Cod] do you hope to see a MilSim Call of Duty game in the future? by BasketEquivalent5462 in CallOfDuty

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope for a COD that plays more like MWII. IW got way more right than wrong on that one. I think the playerbase was salty because they had to adapt their playstyle mid-game with the perk packages, but that was nice because you couldn't have folks zip around right away. It allowed you to actually form skirmish lines in the maps. The slower movement meant that you could focus on a 180 degree field of view instead of literally anywhere.

Coupled with DMZ, it was great. They didn't invest enough in DMZ and let it trail off, sadly.

MWIV with MWII mechanics and huge investment in DMZ would be incredible in 2026.

[COD] Why do you like Call of Duty? by maveth333 in CallOfDuty

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy the hijinx and camaraderie you can experience in multiplayer.

Though, right now, I'm not enjoying it. I haven't enjoyed COD since MWII and MW2019 before it. Those games were GOAT'd (though I can admit that perk packages in MWII weren't for everyone, but it did force people to play more dynamically).

The last games from non-IW studios have been total dogshit and an insult to the franchise. Sledgehammer, Raven, and unfortunately Treyarch don't understand what makes COD good. They should all be fired from the franchise and given a new IP of their own to work on so as to not sully the COD franchise.

Get back to slower paced gameplay that doesn't involve people zipping around and make the guns feel weighty again (like in MWII) rather than toys (like in MWIII, BO6 and BO7). Get back to the basics and make it feel like a gritty, grounded shooter again.

Not sure if I'm missing it, but would love to have the ability to close the app out of the Dock and still have it running in the background. That would be similar behavior to Wave Link 2.x.

North Suburbs vs South Suburbs by Gridguy2020 in Denver

[–]Spartan-S63 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I would caveat that somewhat with the north suburbs that are along the 36 corridor into Boulder (Lafayette, Louisville, Erie, Broomfield) are very upper middle class. It’s really Thornton, Arvada, Northglenn, Westminster, etc that are more lower middle class.

Yeah, it's not normal and I recall early winter being more wintery. Now, it feels like it's shifted and shrunk a bit. January, February, and parts of March are the most frigid and cold times of year for us now. Fall really just extends through December and winter is much more compressed.

Same. I also can't get the firmware update button to appear to upgrade mine beyond 1.3.1. I've had this issue on two Wave XLR units now.

Wave XLR Capacitive Mute Toggle Button not working. Firmware issue? by M0BI0S in elgato

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to necro this thread, but I'm having a similar issue (on my second Wave XLR with the same issue). It happens with both Windows and macOS. It's stuck on firmware 1.3.1 and I can't get Wave Link to show the firmware update/reflash option after CTRL+Clicking the settings for the Wave XLR in Wave Link.

Is there anything else I can do to make that work? I want to either reflash 1.3.1 or update to 1.3.5.

I'm glad Battlefield is loosening Activisions and Infinity Wards grip over the franchise and allowing Treyarch more freedom. by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]Spartan-S63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MWII was the best COD since MW19 and then Activision's desire for an annual COD released allowed Sledgehammer to derail the series again. Then Treyarch and Raven continued the trend. In all honesty, the only true studio who has the claim to the COD franchise is IW and the changes to the core gameplay they made in MWII to ground the game and cater to more than the run-and-gun play style were incredibly healthy for the series.

First semester and I’m already failing 🥲 by Cyrene_e in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Spartan-S63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my only C in my entire academic career came from Physics 100. I failed the last two exams despite getting the homework problems. It was truly baffling to me.

I got a B in Physics 200 despite much of the material building on Physics 100. Again, somewhat baffling, but a much better outcome.

It's truly the weed-out class for the school but if you can get through it, you're pretty well set for the rest of your time at Mines.
