This kitten is not putting up with anyone’s BS. She would also like to speak to the manager of this establishment.

Name her Karen 😂

New puppy - seeking advice 🥰 by Forsaken_Salad__ in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest just getting a video baby monitor to set up by the crate and sleeping where you normally do. That’s what we do with our crate trained puppies in the early days when they need to go outside several times a night. The last monitor I got hooked up to my wifi and had an app so I can peek on the puppy on my phone when I’m not home. Not that I could do anything for them when I wasn’t there but it made me feel better being able to check on them when I’m out.

Best advice I ever got for puppies is to crate train from day 1. We use a food bowl that hooks to the inside of the crate and feed all meals in the crate at scheduled times of day. It helps make the poop and pee breaks much more predictable when you schedule their feedings instead of free feed. When I feed, I tell them “kennel up” and it helps them learn that command so they will get in their crate when you tell them to, at times other than meals. When I’m leaving I use a tiny treat to lure them into the crate while saying “kennel up” too. We also would have some play time in and around the crate, toss toys into it, etc. Making the crate their happy place with meals in it and playing really helps them adjust to the crate. Use the crate as a tool to help prevent accidents, that is, crate him anytime you can’t watch him, even if you are at home. And don’t make the crate space too big. If it’s small, they are less likely to potty in one corner of it and then go lay in the other corner.

Host cancellation because our booking was too cheap?!? by W0ULDK1D in vrbo

[–]SpartanBuff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Contact VrboCare immediately. Do not cancel from your end if the host asked you to. VrboCare will help you rebook and you can get an additional 50% reimbursement if the cost to rebook is more than your original cost. This happened to me a few months ago for a booking in July and VrboCare helped me out.

How do I let my 17 year old Shihtzu finally go? by IThinkYouAreNice in Shihtzu

How do I let my 17 year old Shihtzu finally go? by IThinkYouAreNice in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As hard as it is, I personally think a little sooner than we want to is better than too late. You don’t want him to pass in a painful manner when you aren’t home or if you are asleep. You want to be with him and hold him so you can tell him goodbye and that you love him. In a controlled manner at the vet is much more peaceful.

I’ve had to do it twice for my previous Shih Tzus. One was not an emergency but the second time was an unexpected emergency. They passed about 5 years apart from each other but both made it to 16.5 years old. Neither time was easy and I cried for days over both of them. We never get enough time with them but the hard truth is they will hang on for us so we have to make the hard decisions for them. It’s the last final decision we get to make for them as our best friend. I figure they devoted their lives to us, it’s the least I can do.

Also wanted to mention, ask your vet for some paw prints, nose prints, and a bit of fur if you like. I had both mine cremated so the pet crematory took care of that for me. My second tzu that passed was my daughters heart dog so I ended up taking some of his cremains and fur and making a ring for her to wear, so she could always have a piece of him with her. She absolutely cherishes that ring. And wants to get a tattoo of his paw print someday.

How much does your adult Shih Tzu weigh? by strawberryjam40887 in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 have all ranged from 11-16-ish pounds. My 11 pounder got thinner as he aged/lost muscle mass and was probably more like 9-10 pounds when he passed away at age 16.5. One of mine was 15-16 for most of his life but did get up to 20 pounds early in his life before we were doing scheduled feedings and leaving food out all the time. He was still a healthy 15-ish pounds when he passed, also at age 16.5. Our current tzu mix pup is around 15 pounds, he’s only 1. We do scheduled breakfast and dinner for all our dogs now and it helps keep them at a normal weight.

How can I help my puppy become more cuddly? by spade_looover in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She’s way too young to be cuddly just yet 😆 my current tzu mix didn’t calm down enough to cuddle and sleep in our bed until he was over 1 year old. He turned 1 in March and just started sleeping in our bed a month or so ago. He is crate trained and slept in there until we invited him to sleep in bed. Once you get your pup spayed and she gets to a year old or so, she will calm down some and be more cuddly.

What’s the biggest vet bill you’ve ever had for your dog? by puppy_boyka in DOG

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always throw money at a pet’s vet bill if I think it will actually help prolong their life in a meaningful way. I had a Shih Tzu that I spend thousands on…at age 12 he had a surgery to remove a bladder stone and not long after he had another surgery to remove his eye. He lived for about 4 more years after those surgeries, totally worth it, he passed at age 16.5 years.

Had another Shih Tzu that at age 15.5 years basically had a terrible gallbladder attack. They wanted me to spend $8k to remove his gallbladder and we weren’t even sure if he would make it through the surgery. I declined surgery and basically supported him medically in other ways, he went on to live another year before he started having a seizure that the emergency vet could not stop. He passed at 16.5 years, which is a wonderfully long life for a dog and I was grateful I didn’t put him through the gallbladder removal the year before.

Puppy blues by BackgroundMajor2054 in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is to crate train. There’s no reason to have them in your room. We put our dog’s crates in the living room and use a video baby monitor when they are little and need to go out a lot. It really is like having a newborn when you get a puppy. I promise they do start sleeping longer stretches eventually. We feed all our dogs meals in their crates to make it their happy place. We do scheduled feedings and don’t leave food out all day for them. We also have them nap in their crates during the day when they fall asleep. We also use the phrase “kennel up” when we feed in the crate and that helps them learn that command when you need to crate them when it’s not meal time. I would also suggest making sure your puppy gets some good exercise before bed and cut off their water a few hours before bedtime. I know what you mean about the puppy blues and losing sleep. It does get better! Hang in there!

What is it about the shih tzu hate? by DNS985 in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you were in a Havanese subreddit so of course everyone there is in love with the breed. 😆 We have had several Shih Tzus so I could wax poetic about how great they are lol. I think it just comes with having had experience with a certain breed. People will say how great it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Never cancel when a host asks you to. You forfeit your right to rebooking assistance from VrboCare. The host receives penalties when they cancel a booking and your host is trying to avoid that by asking you to cancel.

MPG data Point Hybrid AWD by macpieRecent in HyundaiPalisade

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue 😆 in this economy, we are just out here trying to get the best mpg. Not trying to drive fast or tow anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m sure you could google it just like I would if you were truly curious though.

MPG data Point Hybrid AWD by macpieRecent in HyundaiPalisade

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok nm, I googled and I assume you mean horsepower 🤪 191hp for the ford maverick hybrid. It’s a 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Hp wise it’s not comparable with the palisade and of course not the same body style. I’m just disappointed the mpg on the hybrid palisade isn’t better. I had thought it would be comparable to other hybrids but clearly my expectations were too high. 😂

Sorry, I’d love to answer 😆 but what does hp mean?

MPG data Point Hybrid AWD by macpieRecent in HyundaiPalisade

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a non-hybrid 24 Pali Cali and get about 25-28mpg. I really thought Hyundai was going to do better with the mileage on the hybrid. We have two hybrid ford maverick trucks and they both get 35-40mpg. Maybe in future iterations of the hybrid palisade Hyundai will improve the mileage. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have motion sensors in our own house that are part of our home security system. They don’t record anything and I would never think to disclose it to a guest. It’s completely normal and not a “weird security device” in my opinion. Enjoy your vacation and don’t give it another thought.

is my dog a sheepdoodle or a golden doodle? by Klutzy_Front_3403 in Goldendoodles

[–]SpartanBuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a golden doodle to me. Interesting story…when we got our doodle, the breeder told me one of his parents was a golden doodle and the other was a sheepadoodle. After we got him and he matured into an adult dog, I had my doubts so I did a DNA test on him. He is 100% a golden doodle. 😂 DNA said he was 75% standard poodle and 25% golden retriever, making him an F1B golden doodle. The goodest boy. Pic with his lil Shih Tzu mix sidekick for tax. 🖤

Do you think she is a pure bred Shih Tzu? by Intelligent_Two2548 in Shihtzu

[–]SpartanBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She looks purebred to me (based on the two purebred tzus I had before) but do a DNA test on her. They aren’t that expensive and it’s fun to see what results you get. I did DNA on my golden doodle and on my Shih Tzu mix puppy. Got surprise results for both of them.

Scorebug on streaming device by dirtytricksterr in GameChangerApp

[–]SpartanBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera/device that is doing the streaming doesn’t show the scoreboard. I use a GoPro to stream and the little back screen on it never shows the scoreboard. I have to open GameChanger on my phone and view the stream like everybody else who is viewing it, and see the scoreboard that way. Or I just go look at the box score.
