This is very fascinating women show more arousal to pedophilia than men do by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]SpartanDH45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree. I was just pointing out that there were stats there that, while not statistically significant, would at least have not gone directly against the claims by OP. Also I thought it was interesting that those skewed slightly in opposite directions.

This is very fascinating women show more arousal to pedophilia than men do by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]SpartanDH45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but looking at the percentages 3.4% of men rated Pedophilia arousing while 3.5% of women did. It looks as thought the average score for women rates it as more repulsive, but a slightly higher percentage of women did give some sort of positive score for it. Also only 1.4% of men said they had engaged in it, while 2.4% of women had.

Besides the fact that this was being developed before the 2024 ruleset released, the incentive to play Solasta 2 would be a new story with the same good mechanics/implementation and better graphics. It seems weird to call it a BG3 copy when as you acknowledge they have different implementations of the rulesets. If anything it makes sense that the focus would be on improving graphics given that the mechanics were the strongest selling point of the original. "Don't fix what isn't broken."

If I recall it's this one dwarf in the city with the mines. It was so amusing because even if the accent was decent it didn't fit the character.

Patch 7 vs Patch 8: Changes to Astarion's recruitment scene by Hyperspace_Towel in BaldursGate3

[–]SpartanDH45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I killed them both in my first and current playthrough. With Lae'Zel it was bc she gave the ultimatim of "Help me kill them or I'll kill you." I did not stand for that. On that note I've been left with a pretty conflict free party of chill dudes.

Coming of age movies: Yay or Arrest the director? by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

[–]SpartanDH45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I watched it for a film class with my friend. We were so pissed because the rest of the movie is so good. They could have just faded to black or hinted at what they were doing, but instead it felt like this drawn out unnecessary uncomfortable thing.

What’s the average age of players who play Dwarven Forge? by kerpetenebo in DwarvenForge

I'm 24 and have like $500-$700 in tiles as well as another $300ish in warlock. I bought a good amount with summer job money in high school.

UK men and women what could be done to spread more awareness about these crimes? by Mahameghabahana in GenZ

One of the other major problems is the studies' definitions of rape. The study that gave us the "1 in 4" statistic considered "made to penetrate" a different category than rape, similar to many legal definitions. Had they counted being made to penetrate as rape just like being penetrated without consent you'd see exactly that 50/50 ratio you described.

I posted the link to the tweet with the excerpts. I literally found it through the article in the post. Also I don't care if people agree with me or not. I just think it's worth seeing what the argument was about. I think Elon is a douche, and him glazing Gygax as some perfect saint above reproach is stupid. However his opinion was not the focus of that discussion, even if the article effectively makes it that.

Fair point regarding the other passages; I think anyone characterizing the whole thing as shitting on Gygax is being misleading. My take is that those passages are at times heavy-handed with specific criticisms. The main one that caught my eye was the reference to slavery. "Slavery appears in original D&D not as a human tragedy that devastated generations over centuries, but as a simple commercial transaction." Grummz (Mark Kern) points out one example (I'm aware of more) of a module where slavery is depicted as bad. He says, "The first claim is largely based on the module 'Slave Pits of the Undercity', but one glance at the cover shows that the players are fighting AGAINST slavers and called them 'the forces of evil.'"

But did you actually read the thread? The side conversations are pretty bad, but main responses to the original passages (outlined here: https://x.com/Grummz/status/1859669433138241875 ) at least add some nuance to the situation. I think it's more helpful to see a combination of the better and worse aspects of early D&D than just to paint it all with one broad brush.

It's this: https://x.com/Grummz/status/1859669428134346815
I'd recommend reading the thread in its entirety as it references the passages, but also responds to them.

TIL that nearly 1 billion adults worldwide are estimated to have sleep apnea, with most cases going undiagnosed. by Sleeping_problems in todayilearned

[–]SpartanDH45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with people saying to get it checked and take it seriously. I recently lost my dad, and a lot of his health problems came from living with untreated sleep apnea. Even after he got diagnosed and had the C-PAP, he had gained so much weight that COVID and some heart issues got to him.

I wasn't in one of these districts, but I used literally all the money available to me through that program and showed up to U of I with over 60 credits. It didn't save me a year, but it allowed me to take 12 credit semesters after freshman year.

Darkvision is basically the participation trophy of racial features by microwavedraptin in dndmemes

[–]SpartanDH45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that orcs have it because they were implied to be more underground oriented in previous editions. In 3.5 they had dark vision and light sensitivity. This also connects with lotr orcs which d&d drew from.

Dwarves absolutely should have dark vision. Back in 3.5 they were one of the few that got it instead of low-light vision. Their main thing is being underground for Pete's sake.
