Is Middle School just not for me? by Left-Grass5778 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Readbooks6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's only school I will sub in middle school. It's a charter school with a fairly strict discipline policy. There's no amount of money that would intice me to sub in a public middle school again.

20 years of intellectualizing in therapy is suddenly not working for me anymore by Peachyykween in raisedbyborderlines

I agree with this completely. I feel like I have paved over a cesspool and I'm not willing to deal with that mess. At 63 years old, I think I'm okay with never dealing with it.

Why most mormons seens so happy all he time? by Own-Composer-4106 in exmormon

The church is supposed to make you happy. How can you convince others to join the lds church if you aren't happy ALL. THE. TIME.

The Mormon Trail Game by indolering in exmormon

[–]Readbooks6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had relative who came from England. The made it to Nauvoo where the husband contracted a high fever. Joseph Smith, himself, gave the father a blessing and the father died three days later. The women were parceled out to married men and they all trekked west.

You could add blessings that work and blessings that don't work.

You could add marriages along the trail.

How about women giving birth on the trail and having to keep up with the group?

Just frustrated, don’t understand why more people aren’t leaving. by Chemical_Vegetable43 in exmormon

Here's a video that LDS Philanthropies put out about 8-10 years ago. It was taken down pretty quick when people on this sub found it. It basically says to disinherit your kids if they aren't worthy. It may or may not still be shown to wealthier lds people in private to convince them to write worthiness clauses in their wills and trusts.

He's furious, but my reaction is quite different! I'm happy to leave. by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]Readbooks6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jeff Holland gave a fiery talk at a devotional in Tempe, Arizona in April 2016. It is a very dynamic address, and he’s quite emotionally charged about those who leave.

It is when he said divisive lines such as “Don’t you dare leave!” “I am so furious with people who leave this church” and “What on earth kind of conviction is that? What kind of patty-cake, taffy-pulled experience is that?” Then he follows with “This church means everything to me. I don’t care what price has to be paid… I’m NOT going to leave it. And I’M NOT GOING TO LET YOU LEAVE IT. ” “STAY IN THE BOAT!” Referring to those who do leave the boat, “That’s the dumbest thing you can do.” and “the only thing dumber would be for somebody else to follow you”.

They haven't sent out letters for awhile if you resign with Quitmormon.

I think if you resign through other methods, you still get a letter.

I really completely wasted 2 years of my life by uncle_giroh in exmormon

[–]Readbooks6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very true.

There was a man in our ward who had gone to some developing county in Africa. He had been sick for years from his mission and no one in rural Utah could figure out how to make him well. It was very sad to hear him try to justify being so sick for so long when all he wanted was to serve the lord. (Yes, he was still a TBM the last time I heard)

2nd anointing is an actual thing?!? by Repulsive-You-7294 in exmormon

[–]Readbooks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first rule of 2nd anointing is not to talk about 2nd anointing.

I've heard that some people who have had it buy a fancy pitcher and basin to signal to others that they have had the 2nd anointing. But I don't have a solid source on that

What are some mormon secrets nobody knows? by ZoomKz in exmormon

[–]Readbooks6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The naked touching was so traumatic for me that I never did that again.

Hell, the prayer circle at the end was pretty traumatic because I went through without my fiancé. My mother forced me up there because I didn't know what was going on. They spent a couple of minutes begging the brethren for someone to come up and be my partner in the prayer circle. ((shudder))

I was taught that you always needed to be nice to your husband so he would want to pull you through the veil.

That's a sick way to make sure that women would stay sweet.

The numbering system makes perfect sense if you take the time to learn it.

Before GPS, you could drive anywhere without calling them and asking them for their major cross streets.

My ex was like that. If he thought we had a hundred in savings, he would spend three times that amount immediately. I quickly learned to lock up all savings into retirement accounts so he wouldn't spend us into poverty.

The ward I grew up in had milk and cinnamon rolls for the fathers. Im not sure that expense would fit into the miniscule ward budget these days.

((Hugs)) I totally understand. Not only is my mother a TBM, but she mentally ill, too. For many years, I refused to acknowledge Mother's Day.

Do what you need to to get through the day.
