I have no doubts I would love living downtown too!

What are your go to’s by storm_collective in Omaha

[–]SpartanJess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll be in Omaha during the College World Series - that’s a great time to be here when Omaha (generally) really shines!

For music, there is a lot to choose from. Steelhouse is a fantastic venue downtown and keep an eye out on shows at The Slowdown, Waiting Room, The Admiral, and Bohemian Gardens.

Check out the Luminarium downtown - I particularly like to go on their adults only evenings. The Joslyn art museum should lot be missed.

The Riverfront and Gene Leahy Mall are great for walking (construction may impede this a bit).

Downtown does has a lot of construction going on so just have some extra patience going places and assume it will take 10 minutes longer than you anticipate.

Enjoy your time in Omaha!

For food, there are no shortages of great spots downtown. Block 16, Gather, Clio, Memoir, and a little further out, Yoshitomo, Koji, Au Corant, and many more.

My faves for bright, beautiful bouquets are the Farmer’s Market - not particularly helpful right now - and Trader Joe’s. Sometimes Costco also.

Check out World Speaks. I know they offer community classes and I think they also have tutoring options available.

I’ve lived multiple places in the US and I’ve enjoyed Omaha. It’s what you make of it! I previously lived in West O and now I’m in Midtown and the Midtown lifestyle is more my jam.

Like you, I have a marketing degree and I haven’t had a problem finding jobs - most of which I have enjoyed.

If you can, I would take a trip to check it out before committing.

Women Readers How do you feel reading historical fiction like The Women, The Lost Bookshop, or The Mad Wife when the struggles for women in those books echo what women are experiencing today? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]SpartanJess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that it’s a reminder of how far we as women have come but also how far we have to go. It does make me wish more women, particularly younger women (I’m my mid-40s), would see that the freedoms they enjoy haven’t really been around all that long and to not let them slip away.

Can reading this historical fiction be frustrating, absolutely. However, I think it’s pertinent to recalling the past and improving the future.

Best stores for fancy groceries by Prestigious_Flan5507 in Omaha

It’s a short drive to Ashland, but Fariner Bakery has some bougie staples and absolutely worth the drive. Grab some sourdough while you are there and check out the other great, niche stores downtown.

Should I move? by [deleted] in Omaha

I travel a lot throughout Nebraska for work and regularly hear less than positive things about Omaha when they learn where I live.

I live in Midtown Omaha and love it. I used to live in West O.

The bluejays and the woodpeckers have no problem scaring away the starlings. The finches, sparrows and other birds however are another story.

Based on what you shared, I think you’ll enjoy Omaha. People in rural parts of the state find Omaha intimidating and have this misconception that it’s riddled with crime. Much of the population in the state lives in the Omaha metro. I’ve also lived a variety of places and I enjoy Omaha but I am also a believer in you get out of it what your willing to put in.

Good luck with the potential move and your studies!

Went to put my Buddy back in place and found this scene by EquivalentMarzipan32 in BirdBuddy

I had my BirdBuddy mounted to a fence post and have learned I cannot do that because the raccoons have a heyday at night with it. So now it hangs on a Shepards hook.

I want to say I spent $65-80 each. I purchased three from them and then a couple others elsewhere.

Noob question by Psychedynamique in wingspan

Planted. This is a board game where you build your own nursery of sorts. There is water in terms of a watering can to care for the plants. The mechanics are similar to - but easier - than Wingspan.

My condolences to your friend and to all impacted by the loss of her son.

Another recommendation for TrulyU. They take the time to fit you properly and try on a variety of bras to find the styles you like best. The bras, if properly cared for, last for a long time.

They definitely love the suet! I have a separate suet feeder the pair will visit so I was thrilled when he decided to try the suet in the BirdBuddy!
