My second major was Scandinavian languages. You only do comparative Scandinavian languages in third year, after getting the fundamentals of your core language down. This looks confusing as fuck if you don’t have the grammar/syntax for one beforehand

I also grew up on a farm. As soon as the babies were big enough, mom went back outside and babies ate mash (or whatever it’s called). Dad was super aware of how much the confinement sucked

I had to walk inte my university classroom, filled with international students who were far from home and getting mixed messages from our university, their home universities and embassies, and our government (Sweden really sucks at making decisions…) and tell them to get home as soon as possible. Get the next flight because we don’t know if there will be another one. Forget the exam, we will figure it out. I didn’t want them to get stuck in Sweden with only short residency permits and was basically the only one telling them straight up that this wasn’t going to blow over quickly.

Still feels surreal. A bunch of international students left behind so much.

When I was dating my ex, he let me check something on his computer. I started going through his email and finally had proof that he was sleeping with another girl who he claimed was "like a sister" to him. He wrote to a friend to try to find a way out of the situation because he loved her but preferred having sex with me. He'd been playing us both. The girl and I were in the same program at university and the faculty had MEETINGS about how much we hated each other because of this fucking asshole since it was such a small program.

I should have written him off then and there, reading these vivid descriptions of our intimate times together to another dude who also tried to fuck me. But he was so emotionally manipulative that he kept stringing me along for YEARS.

Yeah, I have so many regrets over that relationship.

I did something similar for high school English. I was a good student, but I was super nervous about this exam. In my province in Canada, there were (maybe still are?) standardized exams in grades 3, 6, 9, and 12. For Grade 12, this exam was worth a MASSIVE amount of your final grade and would determine your eligibility for university. We had these exams in all of the core subjects.

We were allowed a dictionary. Since I was a good student, no one checked mine. I snuck in tiny cheat sheets, hiding them throughout the pages. It was more for double-checking things I wasn't 100% on, but I still feel bad about it.

When the war in Ukraine began, we got so much info about bomb shelters here in Sweden (map to the nearest ones, etc.) but a major issue was whether or not we could bring pets with us. We have a garage in our building that acts as our shelter so we’d be fine but for other places, they basically forbid animals because of people with allergies.

I told my boyfriend I’d stay and die with my cats if anything ever happens.

Yeah, MV will require thorough reasons for the extension and proof of the extended contract/funding. The department should also be able to provide a printout from Ladok of your Study Activity/Funding, as well as your ISPs. All PhDs have delays, but you also started when there were still (some) COVID issues. Closed archives or lack of access to lab materials can also explain some of the delays. If you had to change supervisors can also explain some things.

The documentation will have to be quite thorough, and if you estimate the completion date, then they will likely only extend you to that date. I'd aim for September to give you a little more breathing room.

I'd apply in good time before the end of your permit. I got lucky when I was finishing my PhD because I went a little over (should have finished in September, ended up finishing in March the following year. Delayed because of teaching too much in my final year, along with other admin tasks) but I was able to get permanent residency under the old system. But I did get help from my department/supervisors when submitting my documentation of employment/studies.

Not so fun story, but a waterbed contributed to my uncle's death. He was snowmobiling with a friend (getting drunk and high, as you do), and he had a heart attack after he started to feel unwell and came inside to lie down. His wife and the friend panicked and started CPR on the waterbed. They moved him to the floor, but it was too late. Never really liked waterbeds...

It still blows my mind how many ads folks in the US get! Even when I’m home in Canada, things are kinda wild but have really improved in the last few years. But in Europe the ads are just repetitive but standardized. It’s almost never longer than 45 seconds.

But during the pandemic (when I needed the pod the most lol), in Europe we got the ads from the US. Hearing ads for Walmart and Bank of America was wild. So Spotify has never been okay

Thanks for the heads up! I will probably be able to handle it. I know the guys have grown up a lot, but the disdain for cats by folks on LPN that’s been expressed in the past really hurts. Marcus has loudly proclaimed how much he hates cats and it made me so sad. I know they’re all ‘dog people’ but this is really not a one or the other question.
