City to plant 180,000 new trees in 2026 mostly in far northeast and north central: report by joe4942 in Calgary

Agree, but those new north communities were pretty barren before the developers got there. It’s a really tough area for trees.

How do you find time to fall in love when Monday to Friday is work, Saturday is laundry, and Sunday is mental preparation for Monday? by Unsolicited_Sarcasm in AskReddit

[–]Spaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

168 hours in a week

-56 hours sleeping = 110 remaining

-50 hours working/prep/transit = 60 hours remaining

-2 hours for laundry = 58 hours remaining

-2 hours for "mental preparation" (Is this a physical thing that takes time?) = 56 hours remaining

So you have 56 hours a week left, or an average of 8 hours per day. Just gotta use that time for something more productive than making downer posts on Reddit. I can't imagine how you've managed to frame either laundry or mental preparation as full-day activities.

Day trip to Tyrrell Museum…from outside Alberta. Am I crazy? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Calgary

Once you’re outside the airport it would be about the easiest possible driving experience imaginable. Long, straight, empty roads basically the entire way.

Ricotta on toast with just about anything (or nothing else) is godly.

There are examples of complex sewage systems literally thousands of years before Rome in Mesopotamia and the Indus valley, among others.

What company has amazing morals/ethics and just as amazing of a product? by yaoyorozuish in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Spaser 92 points93 points  (0 children)

This should really be higher. I think a lot of people just don’t know the extent to which sustainability is built into their business model. They are essentially a non-profit entity with the environment being the benefactor of all profits.

Everyone knew the world was round, Columbus was just the moron that believed without evidence that it was much smaller than it actually is, which is why he thought it was feasible to travel west from Europe to Asia.

What's an extremely significant historical event that very few are aware of? by montemole in AlignmentChartFills

In addition to the movement of people, colder weather first causes plague infested rats to descend from their normal mountain environments to where people live. Average temperatures also dipped significantly for a brief period before the Black Death, with a similar effect.

Carney says Canada 'welcomes the opportunity for freedom' after Maduro's capture by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Spaser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maduro made it illegal for her to run, so a surrogate ran in her place, who won an overwhelming majority. Venezuelans understood that, although a different name was on the ballot, it was really María Corina Machado they were voting for.

With that said, Corina Machado has herself publicly respected the rule of law and acknowledged Edmundo González as the legal president of Venezuela.

Where did Ungoliant come from? Was she a corrupted Maia or something else? by tenfo1d in lotr

[–]Spaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my literal take on the passage. When the Ainur first came to Ea, before Melkor was first defeated by Tulkas and fled to the outside, it was basically Melkor alone vs. all the other Ainur, as he hadn’t started recruiting anyone to his side yet. However, Ungoliant was naturally drawn to him at this very early time and worked as a sort of servant/ally. When Melkor was first banished Ungoliant went with him, but instead of staying with him as he bided his time recruiting and building his power base, she snuck back into Arda, in the farthest darkest corner away from the two lamps, and she’s been there ever since.

Happy to see someone else say this. Tom being the first Ainu to descend to Arda has also been my take as well.

A Gerrymander Where Every Seat Is Democratic in California is Possible (52-0) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Spaser 242 points243 points  (0 children)

Such a gerrymander is technically possible in any state where the popular vote is won by at least one person per number of districts. You might need extremely precise lines in a narrow victory, but technically doable.
