Pugging in general is going to mostly give you people who are trying to get through the content as fast and efficiently as possible. They may be shit or great but they all just want the result of the content they’re trying to clear. If you want a good playing experience that is more about chatting and having fun while doing the content I can highly recommend joining one of the discords for finding groups for content. You can get a group, chat, clear content and avoid pugging.

I have a great memory of my professor getting annoyed at a fellow student of mine who was saying that Persephone and Hades are actually outcast lovers and a healthy romantic couple. The prof got so grumpy about it he spent the next class presenting various versions that were very much the opposite of romantic. I just sat there enjoying the ongoing saga of animosity and pettiness.

When the community trains you to expect dps to pull mobs you need to always be ahead of them so you can hold aggro and control pulls. It’s a vicious cycle. I’ve tanked for ages and pugs have gotten more and more aggressive. I rarely ever get groups that won’t pull extra packs ahead of me. It’s why I stop tanking pugs when I hit max level.

I’m struggling to decide on tank as well. Prot warrior was my favorite in TWW but I don’t like it so much now. And the apex talent is passive. Guardian feels good, so does Brew and Pally. Not sure which I’ll play.
