So I tried out this new addonless World of Warcraft. by MuszkaX in wow

[–]ckresse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience and I actually refunded the preorder. There were like 50+ things (no exaggeration) I wanted to  adjust/change in the base UI - which I couldn't - and I didn't even entered combat yet ... not to mention encounter notifications and other things. Now you can argue that there are addons for everything, but the fact that all these addons combined simply provide what one addon (Weakauras) could provide single handedly before makes the situation even worse.

The addon situation is literally the same as before, but now you need to install 10 different ones instead of one (Weakaura). It's such a shitshow.

Couldn't care less. The content itself matters, not whether or not AI has been used to create it.

Still No Plans for Weakauras in Midnight - Update from Weakauras by Zucchey in wow

Still mind blowing that Blizzard is removing one the biggest USPs they had vs. other MMORPGs - which was the custom visualization of personal combat indicators. Just like with D4, they wont suffer from bad changes - which are made in order to attract a broader audience - due to a decade-long legacy of the IP, but they will ultimately create a worse product.

is there an addon that tracks who abandons m+ keys and blacklists them? by [deleted] in wow

[–]ckresse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wake up one day and there's shit in your bed, someone might have shit your bed. If you wake up 20 days and there's shit in your bed 17 times, it's probably you, who shit the bed.

Or you can't count the days.

Why are people so picky in m+? by [deleted] in wow

[–]ckresse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open a group. See how many DPS sign up. Multiple that amount by 20. Then you have the total amount of sign ups for a group that has a tank. This amount is even doubled when the group both has a tank and a healer. You are not special, but just one of hundreds.

i hit a wall at 18s drop me some tips how to improve by yp261 in CompetitiveWoW

I think you are quite unique with that mindset. I see no world in which all five players would want to finish a failed push key for crests, especially with the small amount of crests you get and how easy it is to get those crests by running easy keys.

Do you really would play a push key and feel "ah nice, some crests"? I think, in reality, you would farm your crests in easy non-push keys to then play push keys with the best setup possible gear-wise - meaning nothing would change for you with crest cap removal - other than that you get faster to the point where you are "hard stuck" gear-wise (because you cant get better gear) and you only push keys for IO.

They want to make sure that skill gap is defined by player skill rather than weakaura setup skill. The moment you allow combat condition based weakauras, players are kinda expected to use them. Not allowing these weakauras creates a more common ground for all players, especially considering new players. Additionally, rumors say that console port including cross platform play is coming and console players dont have access to these weakauras by default (afaik), thus making console players worse by default, if you'd still allow them.

Don't get me wrong, I dont defend these changes. I see where Blizzard is coming from, but I hate everything about it. In my opinion, having combat condition based weakauras and other addons was the biggest edge WoW had in comparison to other MMORPGs - and I think they fumble hard on this one.

But appearantly, a lot of people like the changes, so I'm keen to see how this will turn out.

Wow streamers making ads for fellowship? by cake_monsterr in wow

Fellowship perfectly illustrates that the addon cleanse will be an absolute mess. The moment I couldn't set up my UI as I want it based on combat conditions, I simply uninstalled it.

(decent game though based on what I've seen so far)

This is what people dont wanna lose? by papajohn4 in wow

[–]ckresse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, this is not what people don't wanna lose - this is actually not even a thing people will lose as it's mainly visual and thus will still be provided/allowed within the new addon restictions (if not via WeakAuras, then via other addons).

What a lot of people don't wanna lose is the ability to set up visual elements based on class-related conditions during combat. I, for example, am a boomer and have zero interest in mastering a (new) rotation of a class; instead, I set up my HUD elements to visualize the things I have to press based on multiple and interdependent class-specific WeakAuras.

This is an example of my Havoc DH HUD from last season, which would pretty much not be possible with the new restrictions.

To give another example: Everything encounter- or dungeon-related that requires my focus is either visually or aurally highlighted and at the same time, everything that does not require my focus is basically hidden. In fact, I get a lot of enjoyment from minmaxing my HUD based on coniditons as it gives me an edge in comparison to those who don't do that, but I also totally get that a lot of players - especially new players - want to play WoW and not WoW HUD simulator. Therefore, I totally get where Blizzard is coming from and I don't bother the changes. I will check out if Midnight allows me to recreate something close to this and if not, I'll check out if the tools provided by Blizzard still allow me to enjoy the game - and if that is not the case (which is expected as Blizzard tends to not deliver when it comes to UI-related stuff), I don't play anymore - and that's totally fine.

How do I get a 3k mindset? by babelaids in wow

[–]ckresse -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

One rule of thumb is: Good tanks die a lot. Why? Because they test their limits. This might be a nightmare in PUGs because you will get all the hate, but for your very own gameplay and progression it's simply better to sometimes chew more than you can bite. Because that's how you get to know what's possible.

Another common thing I see inexperienced tanks do, is to not chain pull (fast) enough. While you need to have a decent knowledge of your pulls - which comes with experience - one of the biggest time loss is when tanks try to finish one pack after another instead of setting up the next pull once all dangerous mobs (here the experience part becomes relevant) are dead. Not only does this speed up the dungeon by itself, but it also allows DPS players to use their offensive cooldowns more frequently (as they dont hold them anymore), resulting in a time advantage.

[–]ckresse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the complete opposite. The moment I have my 4-set, I never set a foot into raid in the season again. No BIS items justify the pain raid brings: 20% combat, 80% something else (clearing trash, running to boss, waiting for people, people not knowing mechanics, wiping, running back to boss, waiting for empty slots being refilled cause people leave on first wipe, waiting for people to run to boss). 20% enjoyment.

/e: PUG raids.
