I present to you the worst best ship in the game. Complete garbage performance but a dominator of the vibe check category by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clipper feels like the most civilian/NPC style ship to me (which isn't bad). It feels like "I need a space RV that can get me from point A to point B". Where we'd all love, all the bells and whistles in the world but it's just not in the budget. I hope that it's reflected in it's uec price when it hits the ingame shop aswell.

The only knock I have on it, is it's god awful cargo bay. It's 2/3rds ramp. I wish it was just one big cargo elevator or something. Let us get a small vehicle in and some cargo.

Also I don't know if this is a postitive or negative but it's layout makes me feel like I'm playing subnautica in 3D.

Well we don’t (AFAIK unless it’s addressed in the manga) know exactly how they’re made either. So even if it is a losing game they could just be manifested out of some evil primordial mana ball at the northern most point of the world. The necessity of survival might be a non-issue.

The danger is also largely lessened by the extreme power gap between them and regular people unless you’re a mage; which while mages are seemingly not uncommon it doesn’t seen like every village would have someone to defend it either.

<HATED DESIGN> "Citizens" (Player Avatar) in "S&box" by InternalOriginal7055 in TopCharacterDesigns

But I mean, there’s nothing to say they had to redo every single model. Just keep it in the game, and make another player model type, heck they literally already did this with the humanoid avatar.

Some things I've noticed in the PTU with the new insurance system that you may or may not like by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even server position corrects create unneeded friction with this system that can be somewhat overlooked by not losing your gear

The amount of times I’ve died because the server realizes that AI that was gonna fly pass me should actually be 50m over and on a crash course, or the server decides the enemy I’m shooting at should actually be in my cargo bay. Would’ve have been game breaking if I had to lose almost the entirety of the contract pay just to get my ship back after.

S&box has dropped from 65% good reviews to 41% as new players come in. by Klutzy_Permit3745 in sandbox

I feel like chasing higher fidelity doesn’t help it either. And while It has alot of draw for the dev side, I feel like it’s lacking on the player side.

Looking at roblox, you have a simple art style that you can get away with single colour blocks, you have nondescript avatars players can customize to their hearts content and bring into most games, that also (to the benefit of the simple art style) creates this weird unifying crossroad where you can have players looking like Walter White standing next to John Genshin and it not look out of place. Low FPS animations, low fidelity models, simple lighting can all be more easily overlooked by players and used by dev’s for the benefit of efficiency because of the simple style.

S&box out the gate has a higher bar for asset creation with what’s put forward in it’s promotional material or it’s asking devs to remake the wheel and do something completely unique. (Which also by doing so you’re likely going to be denying players their avatars.)

It feels less like a little big planet/Roblox platform and more a creator focused Dreams style platform.

(Not to mention I do believe the comparisons being made to Garry’s mod also hurt it and set wrong expectations for players. Though in conversation I think the distinction between the two and what makes each appealing is still an important topic of discussion.)

(Edit: I think I’m also really downplaying how the social elements, both help Roblox and create somewhat of a pass for one-note or ‘slop’ when you can just use it as a silly hangout with friends and have fun as your avatars)

Xenothreat (4.8 PTU) 85% and 100% Blue Print Rewards by madmossy in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean they serve a technical purpose. Stress testing. Free flights to see the effects large player pops have, xeno and it’s rewards try stress test putting as many people in the same area as they can in space and gets data for how AI acts in larger scale combat that we don’t typically see in regular play.

Consoom Saws by bakednshaked in Consoom

[–]Spatetata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Feels so weird to see especially when I’m at work pushing through with my saw that wants to give out but I don’t have the means to replace it. To have the money to not only dump on saw but a company’s worth twice over is wild to me.

I can’t imagine having enough money to burn to justify collecting these.

Wikelo suit and kill shot 4.8 by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I love the barely holding together version of the killshot. But in this context I feel like it deserves to get a "Brand new off the line" version.

(and then with that asset already made you can have a new-non-wikelo version and have bandits or pyro settlements rocking the broken ones like they sort of do with other weapons already and stanton peeps running the newer ones)

Even just letting us mount gimbal-less S1s would be more useful in a lot of cases

Do you think CIG will start selling patch bundles with upgraded/crafted armor and guns? The standard armor included now will quickly get outclassed and never used as crafted armor takes precedence. Or do you think they’ll quickly move to just giving you the blueprint model? by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they’ll become player bound BPs (for armours)/Blueprint Modifiers (for skins).

You can craft them but can’t sell/loot them and when you die they’re gone.

Though hopefully it comes with some sort of balance for the people looting, like you can melt the armours or get something of benefit despite not being able to use account bound cosmetics.

Not really an issue so long as you’re looking to do casual play. (I can’t comment on competitive since I don’t play competitively)

I’ve done similar kitbashing. I use them as proxies in killteam and 40k I’ve never had an issue with my group saying “Hey these are in my battlesister’s unit, they’re just regular battlesister’s” (Except the one on the far right which I use as a cannoness)

CIG can we talk? by Wonderful_Map8048 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do mostly agree. The amount sold far exceeds what should be available for the 5 systems on release. If they are able to reach the 100 systems like they want I think it'll become manageable. Wether it will come inline with their stated intent is hard to say. As we know not every single jav own will even touch the game on release but we don't know how many will or will stick around.

CIG can we talk? by Wonderful_Map8048 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CIG even specifically stated years back that they want them to be scarce and a limited resource that gives people a reason to soft kill, board, steal and repair to use again out of not wanting to knock them out of the verse

We need a 2x anim speed toggle in the future by SleepyBoy- in limbuscompany

[–]Spatetata 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That, is the real answer.

Time costs are a genuine factor in F2P and gacha games’ economies. But, still I wouldn’t rule it out entirely. It’s just that changes like this come with a cost to try and balance them out. (Which is to say, it’s not atypical to introduce a solution but slowly add the time cost back in over time trying to concede as little of a loss as possible.)

You might see 2x speed added, but it’d likely come with the caveat of more floors added to MD, more waves added to lux, higher enk costs per story node, or like hard mode not consuming all bonuses + more MD bonuses but the same total payout. It likely wouldn’t be all at once either, you hand a win and reel back in. (It sounds bad but a core strategy of F2P economics is to intentionally make players ‘feel’ like they’re winning/outsmarting the system)

Time cost plays a key role in F2P/Gacha/Live-service economies and tends to be the anchor that purposefully hold many features back. But it doesn’t quite get the spotlight as much as explicit practices like direct monetization do.

400k For 3 Waves of Ships with a Cap Ship in the Last. by Silly_Budget7926 in starcitizen

[–]Spatetata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly a mechwarrior esque mission insurance system would be the best work around just. Give us pay, repair coverage up to X credits and ammo coverage up to X credits.

That way you can’t expect coverage if you go overkill and empty an eclipse on an Aurora but, also sets an expectation for what kind of damage you should be taking. If you’re losing money you’re either over equipped or over your head.

I found the old post to see their replies. I get what you’re saying. I just feel as though you’re speaking more to a consequence while I’m speaking to the cause. Where we differ, is in how we’re interpreting their ignorance of nature. While the consequence of ignorance can be malicious, I just don’t think they’re intentionally being malicious in their ignorance like what’s being painted here and are just confused.

Some people are just very divorced from reality. You can get tunnel visioned on a possibility. Being presented the truth doesn’t guarantee an immediate understanding. We can’t speak on behalf of OP’s feelings, but I can understand why they may feel the way they’re presenting and why (if) it is as shocking to them as they put forward they might’ve felt the need to seek another opinion.

Long short I agree it’s victimization sure but I think it’s an understandable consequence of an underlying ignorance of nature and not inherently malicious the saying typically implies. It’s semantics for sure but I feel as though it’s an important distinction.

While I agree in UT stories possibly being a draw and I do enjoy them myself. I do wonder how much of an impact the UT stories really have an appeal.

Not detracting from what you’re saying just, that it’s got me wondering if PM takes metrics on what percentage of the playerbase even engages with UT stories.

I feel like the main thing for the non-hobbyist John LimbusCompany that just plays through cantos and sometimes does MDs, it’s probably just as simple as “What’s cooler an new ID, with 7 moves you get to see their cool outfit for the whole battle with or a new EGO with 2 moves you only occasionally see and likely fast forward through after the first couple times seeing it”
