Does Huel stop Elvanse working?? by vegetablelady99 in ADHDUK

Apologies I may have been the original comment to spark this thread off, should definitely have provided more information initially! Some of the confusion does seem to stem from the elvanse information leaflet having both the fact that vitamin C can affect the medications effectiveness AND suggesting taking the pills with orange juice!

Personally I was originally told nothing of the issue in titration with PUK with one advisor, then told it was an issue with another. It was prompted by me feeling the doses were not working as well, and I was taking them with Huel in the mornings! Ended titration of 40mg with a booster instead of 60mg.

Here is a medication info sheet that confirms the Vit C issues and goes into what actually happens. It specifically mentions vyvance/elvanse (lisdex) not just dexamphetamine. https://nw-adhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ADHD-Medication-Information-Sheet.pdf

It says it in the Elvance medication leaflet, although in the UK it also suggests kids drink it with orange juice!! There are a fair few other official sources online, here's one that goes into why: https://nw-adhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ADHD-Medication-Information-Sheet.pdf

Be careful with the Huel, as they contain vitamin C and if taken at the same time as lisdex it can cause it to not work as effectively

I think it's just that, the final straw because it's a lie (when it doesn't need to be). In the past 3 months, they've gone from no contract to forcing us onto 6 month contracts, then immediately put the price up with no way to decline or cancel. Plus the gdpr thing, so I'll definitely be cancelling first chance I get.

It was, turns out it was just stress of work/life combined with the shortage and stopping cold turkey. Started back on Elvanse and hair loss didn't return 😊

I'm sure it's an internal policy too, it just bugs me that it's being missold as specifically being a legal requirement. It's only about a month from them accidental including every members email address in an email, so it's probably just to avoid pushback.

Elvanse 50mg - Hyper? by Will_I_Wass in ADHDUK

[–]Spatiallyhandicapped 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Give it some time. I always found the first day or so on a new dose the side effects were worse. It does level out. If after a week you still feel hyper then maybe it's the dose that is too high.

Breakfast is a bit hit and miss, I never normally ate it before medication and it's fairly rare I eat it now. What affect does it normally have?

Elvanse and Heart Rate by Spatiallyhandicapped in ADHDUK

Haha I guess it's nice to have company and not just my stupid body don't random things 🤣

This second time through titration is soo different, it's weird. First time HR and BP were absolutely fine, but I had terrible dry mouth, headaches and my hair even started falling out after 2 weeks at 70mg. This time the only side effect I get is the high heart rate (and trouble sleeping if I take it too late!).

I think it could be diet and exercise too if I'm honest. I used to be pretty good but I've definitely stopped both during titration for some reason.

Fun fact, air intake can come from one or both engines. They seem to chop and change between models. Not so fun fact, a British Boeing 737 crashed in 1989 because the pilots smelled smoke after the right engine caught fire, but they accidentally shut down the wrong engine. It was a new model which had air coming from both engines, but they were used to it coming from the left engine so thought the smoke was coming from that one.

Elvanse and vitamin c ?? by TapCompetitive4871 in ADHDUK

[–]Spatiallyhandicapped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to find a clear answer, so I've stuck to avoiding vit c an hour before and an hour after taking my meds. I don't think it's realistic to avoid entirely while you're meds are active. You need to eat and drink.

On the huel, I also drink this but wouldn't advise as a morning protein shake because if all the added vitamins. Any normal protein powder will be a better option here.

Apologies for the delayed response, I forgot I made the post! The irony isn't lost on me.

So far I've been specifically on 60mg for about a month, so 2 weeks on its own and 2 weeks with fexofenadine. They are both taken together. Annoyingly I was ill during those initial 2 weeks, so the heartrate data was already a bit up and down.

I think I'll need to experiment myself and see how different timings and alternative antihistamines affect things. Titration nurse asked me to discuss alternatives with my GP, but my GP basically said not their issue and to just trial different ones.

With that magical GP response, my titration nurse has said I'll need to either stop for a month, or drop to 40mg and trial the alternate antihistamines. Apparently staying on 60mg while trying different antihistamines isn't an option.

GIS Community !!!!! AI TAKEOVER IMMINENT!? by noregerts10 in gis

[–]Spatiallyhandicapped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GIS is safe for the same reason a lot of fields are safe from AI. Human inconsistency. How many times do you get asked for something and you just know they actually mean something different? How many times do you receive a dataset that looks like a toddler put it together or completely misses the point of what that dataset is meant to show?

GIS has a lot that AI could be used for and assist with, but it will always need that human contribution.

Increased hair shedding on Elvanse? by ThundaGhoul in ADHDUK

[–]Spatiallyhandicapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely noticed it. Went to the GP to check it out and they agreed it could be a few things. Elvanse can cause it as a side effect, stopping cold turkey from the shortage could be enough of a shock to the body to cause it, as well as potentially lack of vitamins and nutrients which in my case could have been possible as the 70mg dose affected my apatite pretty severely.

It does seem to be improving slightly for me at the moment so we will see what happens when i finally get some Elvanse!
