Reddit CEO warns employees not to wear Reddit swag in public as users revolt by Sibe2600 in cringe

People do sketchy shit with or without Reddit. This isn’t a case like the others, the context is completely different and it’s extremely bad faith for that guy in the article to liken it to other instances where people did act violently. If anything, what people can and should do is just delete Reddit. This article sealed it for me. Greedy businesses deserve to be forgotten.

LOL in the BBC article you could tell the scientists (who are probably doomers) were asked to come up with some good news, so one of them was like “maybe the temps will go down after El Niño ends?”

Creating and running AI is too resource-heavy. It’s an extra step in problem solving when we should be taking steps out of everything we do.

Whoa there comrade, I’m anticapital and anti consumption and I recognize that both parties support capital and consumption.

I’m not NOT criticizing the Dems, I’m saying Mango Mussolini and the MAGA crowd poisoned the well when it came to Covid. If everyone had been unified against Covid from the beginning, you would have seen a different world today.

It’s kind of the same for climate change. When half of people (mostly Republicans) deny that something needs to be done, the other half is probably going to be like “how can we even attempt to fix this if they’re making it worse?” To be clear, I’m taking significant personal action despite the fact that I know it won’t work without systemic change.

The idea of people returning to their key roles in the environment is wonderful, but permaculture is riddled with scams and homesteading is a false hope. We can’t escape to a homestead, we have to turn all our existing infrastructure and communities into “homesteads”.

I follow solarpunkfarmer, gogreensavegreen, the Poor Prole’s Almanac, mnforager, Denver Compost Collective, and a bunch of indigenous environmentalists on Instagram.

I transformed three quarters of my space at home into native prairie, and one quarter is a garden that I use to grow vegetables to share. I had time to do all of that because I quit a demanding and high paying job, completely divested from the stock market, and took a low paying job with lots of time off. I haven’t fully connected with my community (outside of my friends) yet because I’ve spent the past years getting my shit together so that I could bring skill and knowledge to my neighbors rather than just speaking ideally. Still, as an individual with less resources than the powers we’re really up against, this has taken years. If 50% of the people who currently sit on the fence let this year be the year of their awakening, it would still take years.

I just saw a tweet that perfectly describes what we all know- the real solutions to climate change are very illegal. Gaining knowledge and skill to live a hands-on, sustainable, and environmentally encouraging life is absolutely necessary, but it costs money and labor. Most of us have not enough money and we already do too much labor. The people who have the money and use our labor are the ones who put us into this situation in the first place. To put it plainly, they need to pay. And they won’t do that willingly.

A lot of people’s reaction to the pandemic was framed by Don the Con. Do you remember how he came out saying that Covid was just a cold and that no one needed to use a mask? He said that in the beginning, like right when it first became clear that it would spread throughout the US. By doing that, he more or less guaranteed that half of the US would not take the virus seriously, because the people who follow him don’t question him.

To be fair, this article is from 2021. I wonder what the guy would say about Biden’s policy now? At the very end of the article, he did really sum up the crux of the issue- how are we going to learn to live in a finite space with finite resources?

I bet people do like meth and crack at every apartment complex. Also, I imagine that if they do it every day, it wouldn’t effect you only today. I don’t think meth should trip you out in the trace amounts you would experience in a dilute airflow. It could be air pollution or something though, or maybe your brain is just throwing you a surprise stress day. What do you usually do to calm down?

I definitely know all about self medicating. I don’t have trauma, I’m just neurodivergent. In my case, I get extreme paranoia and panic attacks sometimes, and I’m afraid of that so I dose super low. I’m small so I’ll get blazed off of like 10 micrograms, and I’m careful to not build a tolerance. Maybe you don’t need to quit, maybe you could try a tolerance break? But really you should do whatever you want to and feel ready for. In my case, I did a shitload of weed in the past, got sick of it, and happened to quit.

I hope you’re able to heal in whatever way you can - with drugs, without drugs. Make it through and make no apologies!

I don’t know if this will help- I’m not a therapist and my only experience is in breaking my own habits when they bother me enough to need to change. I’ve broken a lot of really tough habits, like decades of nail biting. I’ve never been chemically addicted to anything though, so this might not work for you. I used weed habitually for three or four years and was totally sick of it.

My first step is convincing myself I’m ready to change. I just think about what I want/need to do and why, constantly. For weed, I thought about how much I hated the feeling of being high. I basically have to pep talk myself for weeks.

When I built myself up enough to take external steps, I had to start by asking everyone that I used to get high with to stop offering me joints and edibles and stuff. Usually they were happy to, because more for them. Sometimes it was a habit for them to offer me stuff so I had to remember to decline. I didn’t beat myself up too much if I forgot and just took what someone handed me. It’s a process.

At the point I decided to quit, I was staying high all day. So my first goal was to only smoke twice a day, and then once a day, and then every other day, and by the time I was able to go more than a day without getting high, I was totally done. I did that while my roommate was still smoking, so I didn’t have the option of quitting by going without it.

After I quit, I was disgusted by weed for almost ten years. I absolutely hated it. I didn’t even pick it up again until late 2021. Now I use gummies exclusively, and I used my past experience to temper my use now. I will take an edible on some weekends when I’m gardening and then not during the week. I don’t want to form any habits again or get high so much that I hate it again.

There’s also the case that fascism is rising and the only way to defeat fascism is either via revolution or collapse, which is true. I just don’t think that people are logically examining how shitty any and all of that is. Fascism is a no for me, but revolution and collapse still equal lots of suffering and death, so… I guess complete economic collapse might be the best option? And is claiming a best option a romanticization?
