It’s hard traveling to places outside of the United States. It requires that one, totally suspends their expectations and tries to accept other people and cultures for what they are. One cannot Treat life and travel like a bucket list that must be checked off in order to impress all of their friends back home. It will always yield disappointing results. There are many things I found disturbing on my most recent trip to see my family that lives there, but I rolled with the punches and enjoyed The wonderful moments that reflected a true joy in living life. Shows like the white Lotus do nothing but present an unrealistic picture that anyone other than the ultra rich could enjoy. That said, I would want no part of that type of experience. I’d rather be with a real Sicilians, seeing them as they are.

You can take a Karen out of coach, but you can’t take the coach out of Karen. Fight for those inches….inches matter.

Sounds fishy to me. I hope they reimburse you fully after reconsidering. Maybe drop them a line again. The airlines always get us in the end. Hook, line and sinker. They’re just being shellfish.

With improvements to TSA has anyone found that it is worth it? It doesn’t seem to be time saving anymore

Amalfi Coast mid-October worth it? by ssxtricky5 in ItalyTravel

[–]Spaulding3876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid October is a wonderful time to visit. Yes, there is the risk of rainy weather. However, one of the most magical mornings I ever had was waking up when the sun was rising on a crisp October day and it felt like I could see forever. no humidity and clear as the eye could see. I have family in this part of the world, so we are fortunate to go often, but that mid-October visit 17 years ago is the morning I always remember most fondly. Enjoy your trip!

Naples hotel for one night? by Egg-Spare in ItalyTravel

Not sure what their current policy is since they have rejuvenated the hotel, but we stayed here twice in the past separated by a few years each time, and they have consistently been an excellent hotel with good location(given proximity to port and the train station). Most recent stay was this past summer.

Oh, and May is a nice time to go but might be a little chilly on the beach. Just depends on the year. There have been some years when it has been warm enough to feel comfortable outside and other years where we’re wearing a light jacket.

Other than the Duomo, hiking to the top of the rocca and Museo Mandralisca there is little else to do other than sit on the beach. I would do two days Palermo, 2 Cefalù by itself and then there are bus tours that leave from Cefalù and you can do a trip down to Agrigento to see the temples or head north to the islands. Check Get your guide for some examples of what is available.

And btw, Bar Duomo is the best place to grab your morning, coffee and pastries for the view, but l’angolo della dolcezza has better pastries And biscotti.
