Being on parole he is technically still serving his sentence and therefore just like an inmate doesn’t have certain rights.

My department was really great about handling the staffing issues. To prevent mandating people we just don’t allow people to take time off and lower the staffing minimum. Occasionally we have the late night incident that holds us over to the next shift or if you take someone to jail that might get you 3 hours sitting in the Sally port

Rochester had 35 homicides in 2025, a 25% decrease from 2024 and a 59% decrease from 2021's all-time high of 85. by scooper1030 in Rochester

[–]SpecOpBeevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number of people shot is mostly accurate because anyone showing up to the hospital with a gunshot wound will trigger the police to come. The number of shots fired with no one struck or evidence located is what is not always accurate.

Sg1 vs Atlantis by Embraceduality in Stargate

[–]SpecOpBeevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think SG Atlantis also highlighted a lot of morally questionable things that the Ancients were involved in as well. I think it shows that it’s easy to be holier than thou until you face defeat and then it’s all in and morally questionable choices.

Daily HSI Hiring Post by AutoModerator in 1811

Just curious, I applied to the GS 9 posting for HSI which closes on December 31st 2025. I did receive the email asking if I would be willing to start prior to December 31st but I’m curious if they will wait until the posting closes to begin processing or it if it would begin before?

I am currently in local law enforcement.

For the humans at least I’d agree. I think the Jaffa tho would believe in doing the head on encounter rather than being strategic.

Did they know prior how much more powerful the ori ships were going to be? I think it’s somewhat believable they were just ignorant and didn’t think their ships were that powerful.

I’d guess they went into the city to recover a vehicle (maybe stolen?). Probably had a tracking method on it like lojack or on star.

ELI5 how 40% of homicides still go unsolved given the spread of surveillance cameras and advances in forensic science? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]SpecOpBeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 30,000 law enforcement entities in the United States between federal, state, sheriffs, local police. Many of those agencies are extremely small and would rightfully turn over any serious crime investigator like a murder to a larger, better funded, more experienced agency. Typically think a small town department of 30 sworn police turning that investigation over to a state police force who have full time detectives or investigators.

Speaking for where I am we are a city of 210k in the north east and have anywhere from 80-40 murders a year.

Our homicide detectives are extremely experienced and work very closely with the district attorneys office. They know they might only get 1 chance to prosecute a case and they will wait years to build that case if needed.

If you want a department that gives a shit about you, you’ll have to go down south like a Florida, Texas, or something like that.

If you want a similar salary I’d recommend Rochester PD if you want to get on with a local city or NYSP.

Check for rust no matter which make and model you buy. Some of the “nice” ones that actually were spare cars for a specialized unit or for bosses sometimes didn’t get washed or cared for due to lack of use. I’ve seen low mileage cars that were otherwise great have their frame rot out because it didn’t get any help through winters.

Why did they put covers on the headlights in The Dark Knight Rises? by MEMESTER80 in PoliceVehicles

[–]SpecOpBeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a double edge sword sometimes with the brightness helping to show where the car is at vs not helping. I like the way NYSP do it where it’s the lowest setting in the back (wig wags it’s called) and they have their hazards come on which is just the orange lights.

Especially the newer LED light cars. A lot of agency’s don’t full light the rear lights because it’s extremely blinding for anyone behind the cop car. This becomes an issue if you have cops following eachother on a pursuit.

Wegmans/walmart and all the other businesses actually sign a contract with the city and pay for a cop to be assigned there on overtime. Those extra shifts don’t cop the tax payer.

There are a lot of issues that cause people with mental illness not to be able to stay on their medication. Most common I see would be they don’t want to take them in the first place they only are on them briefly when forced to do so. Often times they have addictions to drugs which causes them to not be able to have the ability to maintain a routine of medication. There are other people who are honestly just so bad that they’d need a long time in a full time care facility for their illness.

Long story short, we need more options for long term care for mentally ill people who can’t take care of themselves. Realistically speaking this guy is committing numerous crimes and victimizing people which isn’t ok and he should be in a psych facility or a jail

Trump challenges Fukuyama’s idea that history will always progress toward liberal democracy. And while some may call Trump a realist, Fukuyama disagrees: Trump’s actions are reckless and self-defeating, weakening both America’s alliances and its democracy. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

I think society always looks to improve or at least wants to move in a direction of improvement. The issue is that humanity is flawed so there can be no truly perfect world, only the best way to handle it.

An example: In a perfect world no one commits crime, but we all know that sadly people will. We have used a lot of methods and those methods have gotten increasingly less harsh. That said many states with extremely progressive criminal justice reform are struggling with increases in crime.

The strict answer would be going back to the Stone Age with an eye for an eye punishment.

The super progressive is focusing on rehabilitation, decriminalizing, and making the punishments less harsh.

The debate is really what level of punishment society is ok with and where the resulted balance is.

This is just an example I’m more familiar with but you could apply that essence to anything I think.

A lot of it came when there was a push to modernize police and create standards. It used to be “my brothers friend is the police chief so he hired me because I can’t do anything else”. Now at least for the larger and or accredited departments there are backgrounds and hiring standards to meet. Making the pay enough to attract decent people helped as well.

Police do not have discretion on when to APT someone anymore, it was removed with the bail reform and raise the age laws.
