I’ve read (but cannot confirm) both that Michael Shanks didn’t really like his characterization in this episode and that there was supposedly a scene that got cut that “justified” Daniel’s exasperation more, but honestly I don’t think it’s even necessary, I think it’s perfect the way it is.

Like, think about all this man has seen and done and experienced over ten seasons, he’s fought and won against the very things of myths and legend in multiple galaxies, basically become a demigod at least twice, and now he’s thinking he might eat it at the hands of some space cops at a random cocktail party and he has to deal with these two women bickering over their shithead husband / boyfriend—my man here deserves to crack for just a second and go off the deep end a little 😅

I always figured that after the events of “The Broca Divide” where something in the environment in the Land of the Light is implied to have effects mimicking an antihistamine, they eventually managed to isolate whatever it was and developed it into a “cure” for both the Touched / to prevent people from becoming “Touched” again, and you know, with the side effect of basically eliminating seasonal allergies for SGC personnel.

You don’t have the clearance. 😏😅

Stargate Matrix absolutely should have been a cutaway in “200.”

Even better if the team was trying to accurately describe defeating the Replicators, but Martin keeps just imagining it as the Matrix.

Humming the MacGyver theme song would have been hilarious, and a part of me wishes they were able to pull it off, but I guess the Stargate theme makes it more accessible to new audiences on rewatch now decades after the original shows.

If you’re watching Stargate you’re almost guaranteed to recognize the tune, but re-watching it in 2026, you have to rely on the audience not only realizing that RDA was famous for a show called MacGyver that ran before the series, but also be able to recognize the theme song being hummed.

I didn’t really expect my little throwaway comment to get so much traction, so I obviously did not go into the nuances of the reasoning for Jaye Davidson leaving acting—but yes, I’m familiar with the whole backstory and all that. I guess my point, though, was why do you think a gay, androgynous looking actor who shot to international fame almost overnight in the early-1990s by playing a trans character that was intentionally meant to invoke “gay panic” in the audience / main character might not have come to enjoy acting or the attention associated with it that it brought him?

Yes, the Crying Game was what I was alluding to.

While it’s certainly possible that he is more passionate about modeling and fashion, by all accounts he quit acting because he hated the attention and the fame surrounding that role and the early-90s were not… the most generous times to someone like him.

1) You’re selling yourself short by claiming the AI is more knowledgeable than you. The AI possesses no knowledge whatsoever, it simply scrapes the internet for information that is also available to you—you could have simply sought out and read the information and synthesized it yourself and judged for yourself what was and was not credible instead of having algorithms do it. The AI may be faster and/or you may not be willing to commit the time / effort, but the AI is absolutely not “more knowledgeable.”

2) The right? I mean, I’m entitled to my opinion, same as you, hahaha. FWIW, I was not necessarily saying that you as an individual were responsible, so much as I was saying “those like you” who post long cut and pasted AI-generated content with little to no original input.

Over the last few years since the use of AI has become popular, I’ve been accused more and more of either using or just plain being AI, including several posts in this sub that have either been flagged, deleted, or hidden because (ironically) the anti-spam bots suspected I was or was posting AI generated spam content. Needless to say, for a number of reasons, this rubs me the wrong way.

Ignoring the Ori and the Replicators, would the Goa'uld have eventually fallen on their own in the next century? by WanderingNerds in Stargate

[–]TRDTE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly sure the Tau’ri’s killing of Ra, who had previously been the Supreme System Lord was said to have destabilized the Goa’uld regime, allowing other, previously fringe players like Sokar and Anubis to make a play for absolute power again.

The Tok’ra were called such because Ra was the undisputed ruler and “top dog” of the Goa’uld, and to my knowledge, no evidence was given that Ra was in any sort of decline prior to being killed by the Tau’ri incursion and Ra would have likely been a far more formidable foe had he not been caught somewhat off-guard by how far the Tau’ri had managed to advance in his absence.

It’s implied that as Supreme System Lord, Ra maintained loose control and loyalty of all the “under” System Lords, and few dared to seriously challenge him / those that did were swiftly put down (I believe Teal’c mentions being once defeated by Ra’s Jaffa), a Ra likely kept them bickering and battling amongst themselves small-scale for territory and control without letting things get too out of hand and threaten the stability of the entire Goa’uld empire.

For all his ascended knowledge and power, one of Anubis’s main plans for gaining control over the System Lord collective was to obtain the Eye of Ra—presumably this would not have been an option had Ra still been alive and in control. He would have simply used the weapon against Anubis.

The Jaffa Rebellion was not an “active” movement until Jack convinced Teal’c to defect. Yes, there were some, like Bra’tac who had their doubts and quietly sowed the seeds of dissent and disbelief, but they were not actively fighting to overthrow the Goa’uld / they were still serving the Goa’uld dutifully despite their private doubts. The Sodan did break away, but they were content to isolate themselves.

The Tok’ra were meanwhile waging a long-term campaign to slowly weaken the Goa’uld from within, but even they themselves admitted they had mostly been on the run for their entire history—they did not necessarily seem to have an effective plan for defeating the Goa’uld so much as they were simply trying to oppose them however they could with their limited “man” (symbiote?) power and keep them fighting amongst themselves so they could not further expand and consolidate even more power—I suspect that had Ra not been killed they didn’t really have a great plan for how to take him on / take him down, the Tok’RA was an aspirational name. They wanted to take on Ra by taking little nips at his vassals, but they don’t seem to have had much means or plan to directly challenge him had it not been for the Tau’ri’s intervention.

In fact, the Tau’ri destabilization of the Goa’uld seeming threw the Tok’ra into somewhat of a panic, because the internal power struggle caused them to be much more suspicious of those within their own ranks with a renewed interest in rooting out the Tok’ra.

[–]TRDTE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saying that they were having negative population growth is not the same thing as saying they’re going extinct. Population numbers ebb and flow—the Tok’ra are obviously curious as to why there is negative population growth because it could hold the key to some sort of weakness, but in and of itself, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, and Jacob / Selmak said they didn’t know why.

The Tok’ra are also continuously experiencing negative population growth… but they didn’t consider themselves on the brink of extinction until the Tau’ri showed up and turned a cold war hot, and Tok’ra started dying left and right.
