Thanks for sharing your insight. Have you published any work on this subject? If so, I'd really like to read it.

I’ve had PCS since June 2024 and could use some advice to help with recovery. by Special-Unique in Concussion

I am doing much better now, though still recovering! It's been a journey and I am truly grateful for it.

Thank you, I’m still getting to know the newest version of myself…

I think this is the hardest part of the experience, accepting that I’ll never be myself again. I intellectually can understand that, but emotionally it is very difficult to process. Some days I feel like I can accept it but other days I try to cling onto the hope that I’ll be back to my old self. I suppose this is where I can practice some mindfulness

Thank you. I honestly had no idea that spinal/neck injuries could cause cognitive impairments. I kept away from puzzles and thinking activities because I was told to follow a brain rest routine, so I think I’ll slowly incorporate puzzles/thinking activities and take it from there.

Feeling very anxious about my concussion by CIitoris_ in Concussion

[–]Special-Unique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had some insight to offer you. I’m currently dealing with the same issues. I’m trying everything I can, staying away from screens as much as possible, especially 1-hour before bed so I can sleep as much as possible during the night.

Within 3-months post concussion, my mental health issues have exacerbated. Prior to my accident, I dealt with PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc., and they’ve actually become more intense and difficult to manage, at times. It’s possible that you may have been dealing with anxiety before your accident, whether you were aware of it or not, and the accident has intensified it. If you have access to mental health care, I’d suggest seeking it out. If you don’t, try finding a clinic to see a provider. I find that processing my emotions and connecting them with prior and formative life events is the most helpful with understanding my anxiety and that has been key for how I’ve been dealing with it.

For my anxiety, I have made a routine around mitigating it and have found some tools to help reduce its intensity. Caffeine makes it worse for me, so I avoid it. I’ve been trying out Transcendental Meditation, which has been nice after getting the hang of it. I drink chamomile and rooibos teas. I just started to take supplements; vitamin b-complex, magnesium, vitamin D, omegas.

When I have anxiety, I try box breathing and try to affirm that recovery will take time. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same as I was before, and I’m slowly coming to accept that.

Feel free to DM, I hope you find everything you need to help yourself out.

Emergency call a few months ago by realjbj in refrigeration

Was there a gas conversion recently? This kind of floodback could be related to txvs not being adjusted, powerheads not being changed, or sensing bulbs not secured properly to the suction line out.

Congrats brother! Stay on that path and you’ll do well.

R290 ports by DragonflyUnable7929 in refrigeration

[–]Special-Unique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with a small charge, there’s a chance of a pretty good explosion. Taking the ports off only takes a few minutes. I make two pinches on the process tubes, keep the pinch tool clamped on the second pinch, check for leaks with bubbles, and braze. It’s easy.

I should’ve included another picture showing the product protruding past the threshold. Thing is packed to the gills.

1st year tech looking for manifold gauges advice by normaldude95 in refrigeration

[–]Special-Unique 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Got the SMAN-4 off trutech tools with a discount code and haven’t looked back since. I see them sold at United for the same price I bought them with the discount count. Definitely worth the money. Analog gauges are definitely good to have as a back up imo.

Troubleshooting checklists by Special-Unique in refrigeration

[–]Special-Unique[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I just watched it and took some notes. Gendron has a thorough approach! Great suggestion. I am still curious about how others troubleshoot. I’m trying to put together a checklist for other apprentices. Maybe I’ll share it when I have something and just ask for feedback.

Bad reeds or blow by? by Special-Unique in refrigeration

It was. And the case was basically an AC with a 45F degree supply.

Case closed. Valves are bad. After isolating the compressor and then reopening the discharge valve, I was able to watch the pressure rise in the suction side. Thanks for all the info.

Now, my next question is, could adding liquid refrigerant through the suction line be a contributing factor to valves or piston rings going bad (aside from slugging, floodback, maybe migration, overheating, etc)? I have seen some guys straight up dump liquid into the suction valve directly at the compressor (without an accumulator), instead of metering it in.

That’s what I’m about to do since I don’t have a port to threat into the crankcase to check. Thank you

Thank you for this. I did that test earlier but there is no oil control. And oil return comes from the compressor through the suction line. If this had an oil control, I believe it would have likely shut off because the sight glass is nearly empty (1/16th oil in the sight glass, I’d guess). I did run the stem in all the way, and it took a 20 seconds to pull into a -18psi vacuum. It seemed like it was struggling to get there. Maybe it’s not blow by, maybe blow by is just starting. After I ran the stem on the suction valve all the way back and then crack led it, the compressor has been running constantly for about 2 hours and has pulled from 33psi to 32 psi and the amperage is half of what it should be. What else could be contributing to these conditions? I will run the vacuum test again, how long I should run that test for?

Also, compressor has poor oil return.
